Optimization of two-controller switchings for LTI plants
In this paper we propose procedures to evaluate switching times, controller resets and vanishing feedforward terms when two linear controllers can be switched in order to optimize a quadratic cost function of the closed-loop system response in case of linear plants. Numerical and closed-form solutions are provided. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed strategies

Performance-based controller switching: An application to plasma current control at FTU
In this paper we derive state-dependent switching conditions to optimize closed-loop (transient) performance of switching controllers for linear time invariant plants. The methodology is applied to plasma current control at Frascati Tokamak Upgrade (FTU) facility to improve steady-state and transient response. Further simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed switching controller
Control-oriented model of disruption generated RE beam at FTU
In this paper control-oriented dynamical models of current, horizontal and vertical displacement for Runaway Electrons (RE) beam in the plateau phase are presented. The dynamical models were obtained through gray-box identification techniques on experimental data collected on post-disruptive RE beam shots in the Frascati Tokamak Upgrade (FTU). Based on the identified models, the design of simple robust controllers to improve RE beam mitigation strategies is proposed and simulations results are provided
On the measurement of the threshold electric field for runaway electron generation in the Frascati Tokamak Upgrade
Experiments have been carried out to evaluate the threshold electric field for runaway generation during the flat-top phase of ohmic discharges in the Frascati Tokamak Upgrade tokamak. An investigation of the conditions for runaway electron generation and suppression has been performed for a wide range of plasma parameter values. The measured threshold electric field is found to be significantly larger (similar to 2 - 5 times) than predicted by the relativistic collissional theory of runaway generation, E-R = n(e) e(3) ln Lambda/4 pi e(0)(2) m(e) c(2), and can be explained to a great extent by an increase of the critical electric field due to the effect of the electron synchrotron radiation losses. These findings are consistent with the results of an ITPA joint experiment to study the onset, growth, and decay of relativistic runaway electrons [Granetz et al., Phys. Plasmas 21, 072506 (2014)]. Confirmation of these results for disruptions with high electric field might imply significantly lower requirements on electron densities for suppression and prevention of runaway formation in ITER.This work was carried out with financial support from Dirección General de Investigación, Científica y Técnica, Project No. ENE2012-31753 (MINECO; Spain).Publicad
Runaway electron dynamics and critical electric field for runaway generation in the FTU tokamak
Modelowanie i symulacja ładowania węgla przez ślimakowy organ urabiający w niskich pokładach
This paper presents a methodology for modeling work of a coal shearer work in low longwall coal seams where the wall height does not exceed 1.5 m. In such conditions, an important issue is the process of loading the ore from shearer cutting drum on an armored face conveyor and selection of appropriate kinematic parameters to avoid choking. Discrete element method was used to model coal seam. This method allows for efficient simulation of physical systems composed of many separate components. Methods and algorithms based on existing theoretical models were developed to imitate coal cutting process. Main focus of analysis was put on coal stream movement for different variants of the shearer construction and kinematic parameters.W artykule przedstawiono metodykę modelowania pracy kombajnu ścianowego w niskich pokładach węglowych, w których wysokość ściany nie przekracza 1,5 m. W takich warunkach, istotnym problemem jest proces ładowania urobku na współpracujący z kombajnem przenośnik zgrzebłowy i dobór parametrów kinematycznych tak, aby nie doszło do zadławienia się organu. Ma to szczególne znaczenie w wyrobiskach niskich gdzie tak zwana furta ładowania jest wymiarowo/gabarytowo ograniczona. Do zamodelowania calizny wykorzystana została metoda elementów dyskretnych, pozwalająca na efektywne odzwierciedlenie układów fizycznych składających się z wielu odrębnych elementów. Opracowano metody i algorytmy pozwalające na imitację urabiania w oparciu o istniejące modele teoretyczne a główny nacisk położono na analizę ruchu strugi odspojonego urobku dla różnych wariantów pracy kombajnu i parametrów kinematycznych
