    Scienziati narrativi

    No full text

Demonstratives as arguments and modifiers of N

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to provide a minimalist account of adnominal demonstratives along the lines of a recent proposal by Giusti (2015) which distinguishes three types of feature sharing: Agreement, Concord, and Projection. As demonstratives bind and identify an open position in the argument structure of N, they are claimed to be arguments and, as such, to undergo Agreement. But unlike possessor arguments, which are assigned genitive and are sent to the interfaces independently of the possessee phase, demonstratives are probed to the Edge of the phase and are interpreted as part of it. In order to do so, they must also concord with N, namely, they must check and delete uninterpretable N-features. This dual nature of demonstratives as agreeing arguments and concording modifiers can explain the different positions demonstratives display across languages, as well as their apparently ambiguous behavior as determiners, as adjectives and as exophoric elements, as claimed by Diessel (2006)

The taxonomic status of Lartetia cornucopia De Stefani, 1880 (Gastropoda, Prosobranchia)

The status of Lartetia cornucopia, an enigmatic stygobiont species described by De Stefani (1880), is revised. Shells consistent with the original description and live specimens found in the type locality (the valley of the Arbia River, northeast of Siena, Tuscany) made it possible to perform a detailed study which led to the tentative attribution of the species to the genus Alzoniella Giusti & Bodon, 1984. Giusti's (1975) previous identification of Lartetia cornucopia with a very similar shelled stygobiont species found by him in a nearby site (the Montagnola Senese, approximately 15 km west of the Arbia River) is consequently recognized to be incorrect. The Montagnola stygobiont, corresponding to a species from Prealpine Italy known since then with the name Lartetia virei Locard, 1903, was synonymized by Giusti (1975) with the older Lartetia cornucopia of De Stefani and moved to the genus Paladilhiopsis and thence by some to the genus Bythiospeum. Present evidence shows that this synonymy is incorrect and supports the revival of Locard's name, 'Bythiospeum' virei. © 1995 The Malacological Society of London

Optical potentials derived from nucleon-nucleon chiral potentials at N4LO

Background: Elastic scattering is probably the main event in the interactions of nucleons with nuclei. Even if this process has been extensively studied in the past years, a consistent description, i.e., starting from microscopic two- and many-body forces connected by the same symmetries and principles, is still under development. Purpose: In a previous paper [M. Vorabbi, P. Finelli, and C. Giusti, Phys. Rev. C 93, 034619 (2016)] we derived a theoretical optical potential from N N chiral potentials at fourth order (N 3 LO). In the present work we use N N chiral potentials at fifth order (N 4 LO), with the purpose to check the convergence and to assess the theoretical errors associated with the truncation of the chiral expansion in the construction of an optical potential. Methods: Within the same framework and with the same approximations as the previous paper [M. Vorabbi, P. Finelli, and C. Giusti, Phys. Rev. C 93, 034619 (2016)], the optical potential is derived as the first-order term within the spectator expansion of the nonrelativistic multiple scattering theory and adopting the impulse approximation and the optimum factorization approximation. Results: The pp and np Wolfenstein amplitudes and the cross section, analyzing power, and spin rotation of elastic proton scattering from 16 O, 12 C, and 40 Ca nuclei are presented at an incident proton energy of 200 MeV. The results obtained with different versions of chiral potentials at N 4 LO are compared. Conclusions: Our results indicate that convergence has been reached at N 4 LO. The agreement with the experimental data is comparable with the agreement obtained in the previous paper [M. Vorabbi, P. Finelli, and C. Giusti, Phys. Rev. C 93, 034619 (2016)]. We confirm that building an optical potential within chiral perturbation theory is a promising approach for describing elastic proton-nucleus scattering
