Patients with bleeding disorders frequently need medical or surgical care. The case is reported of a man with von Willebrand's disease type I undergoing radical cystectomy with urethrectomy for multicentric bladder cancer with neoplastic involvement of prostatic urethra, who developed serious bleeding complications which can not be predicted with conventional coagulation in laboratory. The MEDIA (Advanced Multimedia Digital Emotional Museum) project fits into the field of local museum heritage enjoyment and is based on research aimed at investigating visitors' cognitive and emotional processes through physiological techniques, such as electroencephalography (EEG). Through the case study of the Museum of Valdostan Craftsmanship of Tradition (MAV), this paper explores the potential related to the use of immersive digital technologies, such as virtual reality (VR), to enhance emotional response to heritage and culture and increase user engagement
Single Beam Interferometry of a Thermal Bump: II --Theory
Kuo and Munidasa [1] have reported a method by which a time-dependent optical intensity pattern is produced by the interference of laser light diffracted from a thermally induced bump with the light of the same laser reflected from the plane of the sample on which the bump was induced. In their experiment the thermal bump was induced by a second laser beam which was optically incoherent with the interfering light, but which was intensity modulated at frequencies ranging from the audio to the ultrasonic range. The resulting time-dependent patterns carry information about the thermal and elastic properties of the sample. The purpose of this work is to provide a first-principles calculation of those patterns so that those material properties can be measured with this technique. The starting point of the calculation is the solution to the coupled thermoelastic equations developed by Favro et al. [2–4]. That solution is expressed in terms of the three eigenmodes of the coupled equations: (1) a longitudinal acoustic wave consisting of propagating particle displacements and associated temperature variations arising from the compression and rarefaction of the material; (2) a transverse (shear) wave which consists only of propagating particle displacements and which does not cause any temperature variation as it propagates; and (3) a heavily-damped thermal wave which consists of propagating temperature variations and associated particle displacements arising from the thermal expansion it causes. The combination of surface displacements (i.e. “thermal bump”) resulting from these three kinds of waves when a modulated laser beam is incident on the surface of an opaque solid can be calculated in a straight forward fashion from expressions given in [4].</p

The Influence of Resistance Training on Joint Flexibility in Healthy Adults: A Systematic Review, Meta-analysis, and Meta-regression
Joint flexibility is a key component of physical fitness. Despite the large body of evidence regarding the effectiveness of muscle stretching exercises, little is known about the effect of resistance training on flexibility. A systematic search was conducted on 9 academic search instruments; inclusion criteria were as follows: healthy adult participants (age ≥18 years); resistance training intervention (duration ≥4 weeks); at least one flexibility outcome. Risk of bias was assessed using the RoB-2 and ROBINS-I tools. A 3-level meta-analysis was conducted, with multiple outcomes nested within each study. A moderator analysis was conducted by fitting a meta-regression model. Significance level was set at p < 0.05. We included 36 studies (1,469 participants). None of the included papers resulted at a low risk of bias. The pooled effect size for resistance training on flexibility was g = 0.6325, with 95% CI: 0.4762 to 0.7888 (p < 0.0001). There was a substantial amount of heterogeneity between studies. Exercise intensity was a significant moderator (p < 0.0225, high vs low), based on 129 and unique effect sizes, and sex (p = 0.0429). Activity level and age were nonsignificant moderators. Resistance training could be implemented as a strategy to improve joint flexibility, with high-intensity protocols resulting in a magnified effect. However, the high overall risk of bias and substantial heterogeneity limit our ability to draw definitive conclusions
