No full textArtykuł jest poświęcony dwóm manuskryptom z Książnicy Pomorskiej w Szczecinie, zawierającym utwory J.S. Bacha. MusMs5 zawiera m.in. kopię Das wohltemperierte Klavier I, MusMs6 – odpis Suit angielskich. Dokumenty poddano analizie filologicznej, z której wynika, że rękopis MusMs5 jest szczególnie cenny, ponieważ można go powiązać z kręgiem J.S. Bacha. Ponadto zawiera on nieznane lekcje 24 preludiów i fug. Pochodzą one zapewne z 1740 r., dlatego zostały tu nazwane „wariantem 1740”. Z kolei badania proweniencyjne wykazały, że jeden z posesorów (Franz Zierlein) nosił to samo nazwisko, co uczeń C.P.E. Bacha i kapelmistrz księcia biskupa Ignacego Krasickiego

No full textPeter Kivy believed that Bach’s Die Kunst der Fuge is an example of absolute music, i.e. that it is open to the interpretation of its structure and not its content. The author of this article disagrees with Kivy, arguing that both the masterpiece in question and Bach’s other purely instrumental works that are considered to be secular are open to content interpretation – and even theological interpretation. The article presents theological interpretations of Bach’s Prelude, Fugue and Allegro for Lute (Anne Leahy), Musikalisches Opfer (Michael Marissen), Goldberg Variationen (Maria Judina), Das wohltemperierte Klavier (Christoph Bossert), Canon triplex (Albert Clement) i Die Kunst der Fuge (Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht i Anatoliy Miłka).Peter Kivy uważał, że Die Kunst der Fuge Bacha jest przykładem muzyki absolutnej, czyli poddaje się interpretacjom struktury, a nie interpretacjom treści. Autor niniejszego artykułu nie zgadza się z Kivym, argumentując, że arcydzieło to i inne czysto instrumentalne utwory Bacha, uważane za świeckie, poddają się interpretacji treści, i to nawet interpretacji teologicznej. Artykuł prezentuje teologiczne interpretacje następujących utworów: Prelude, Fugue and Allegro for Lute (Anne Leahy), Musikalisches Opfer (Michael Marissen), Goldberg Variationen (Maria Judina), Das wohltemperierte Klavier (Christoph Bossert), Canon triplex (Albert Clement) i Die Kunst der Fuge (Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht i Anatoliy Miłka).

“My father told me ‘Child, there is no son in this house, so you should wear these boy clothes’”: perspectives on gender norms, roles, and bacha posh among Afghan migrant women in Melbourne, Australia
No full textObjectives: In Afghanistan, strong son preferences render women with lower social capital. A practice was created to overcome this gender bias, known as bacha posh, which literally translates to ‘dressing up as a boy’. This exploratory study aims to understand gender roles, identities, and experiences of Afghan women in order to understand why this cultural practice has arisen.
Design: Utilising a social constructivist approach, qualitative data was collected from Afghan migrant women in Melbourne, Australia, using semi-structured in-depth interviews (n=10) and a group discussion (n=1). The interviews were conducted in Dari, translated and transcribed to English and thematically analysed using NVivo 12.
Results: Key findings identified include the perception of an easy transition for girls to become and return from being bacha posh, community members knowing bacha posh are girls but concealing the truth to maintain family honour, and societal and familial son preferences playing a significant role in becoming bacha posh. Most participants perceived bacha posh to be an unnecessary practice, but understood that it may be an act of desperation forced upon them by the rigidity of Afghan society.
Conclusions: This exploratory analysis makes an important contribution to understanding gender roles, identities and bacha posh in Afghanistan, and is the first qualitative study exploring how gender roles and norms in Afghanistan have led to the bacha posh phenomenon. Exploring how social and gender norms and son preferences contribute to the emergency of bacha posh is critical to understand challenges faced by this group, and how these power structures influence daily living
The Evolution of Reforestation in Brazil
No full textThis paper analyzes the evolution of reforestation in Brazil and makes an evaluation of federal government policies used to stimulate that activity. Despite the huge increase of reforestation areas in Brazil since the 1970s, what put up Brazil as the sixth large country with reforested areas, a scarcity of roundwood from reforested areas is happing in that country during the first decade of the 21st century. Federal government implemented three programs to foster the reforestation in Brazil during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. However, nothing was implemented during the 1990s, when demand of roundwood increased, but not its production. This paper analyzes those programs, using a traditional cost-benefit approach. The results of that evaluation are used to suggest new federal government policies to foster the enlargement of reforestation in segments where price mechanism has not working well.

Since then, many masterpieces of sacred and religious music were created in Protestantism in Germany, in particular by Johann Sebastian Bach. Over the last few decades, scholars have been putting forward religious and theological interpretations of Bach’s works, not only the religious but also the purely instrumental ones – even those which were long considered lay. No full textEn la Región del Espinal, Distrito del Caldén, en la provincia de San Luis existe un fuerte proceso de agriculturización con la consecuente pérdida de remanentes de bosque nativo, peligro de conservación de especies nativas e invasión de especies exóticas. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el efecto del desmonte en franjas sobre 6 especies del caldenal (4 gramíneas y 2 latifoliadas). El estudio se realizó en un campo a 15 km. al norte de la ciudad de Villa Mercedes (San Luis), sometido a un desmonte en franjas para uso agrícola en el año 2003. En 5 sitios ubicados en franjas remanentes de bosque nativo y 5 en bosque nativo sin desmonte, se trazaron transectas de 39 m de longitud, dirección NS y a lo largo de la misma se registraron las especies presentes en 14 unidades de muestreo de 1 m2. Los datos se analizaron utilizando IBM SPSS Statistics 19, mediante Métodos No Paramétricos, U de Mann-Whitney. El análisis estadístico mostró diferencias significativas (p<0.05) en Digitaria californica, Pappophorum pappiferum, Salsola kali y Cestrum parqui. El estudio demostró que el cultivo entre franjas de bosque nativo produjo un cambio en la frecuencia de poáceas nativas y de latifoliadas.In the region of “Espinal”, Calden Distrct in the province of San Luis there is a strong agriculturization process with the consequent loss of native forest remnants, conserving endangered native species and invasion of exotic species. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the stripe clearing on 6 species of caldenal (4 grasses and 2 broa- dleaves). The study was conducted in a field 15 km to the north of the city of Villa Mercedes (San Luis), subjected to a strip-clearing for agricultural use, in the year 2003. On 5 sites into native forest remnants stripes and 5 into without clearing native forest, 39 m long tran- sects were laid, N-S direction, and along the same were recorded the presente species in 14 sampling units of 1 m2. Data were analyzed by IBM SPSS Statistics 19, through non- parametric methods, Mann-Whitney U. Statistical analysis showed significant differences (p <0.05) in Digitaria californica, Pappophorum pappiferum, Salsola kali and Cestrum par- qui. Measuring β-cell function relative to insulin sensitivity in youth: Does the hyperglycemic clamp suffice?
No full textOBJECTIVE - To compare β-cell function relative to insulin sensitivity, disposition index (DI), calculated from two clamps (2cDI, insulin sensitivity from the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp and first-phase insulin from the hyperglycemic clamp) with the DI calculated from the hyperglycemic clamp alone (hcDI). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS - Complete data from hyperglycemic and hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamps were available for 330 youth: 73 normal weight, 168 obese with normal glucose tolerance, 57 obese with impaired glucose tolerance, and 32 obese with type 2 diabetes. The correlation between hcDI and 2cDI and Bland-Altman analysis of agreement between the two were examined. RESULTS - Insulin sensitivity and first-phase insulin fromhcDI showed a hyperbolic relationship. The hcDI correlated significantly with 2cDI in the groups combined (r = 0.85, P 0.001) and within each group separately ( r ≥ 62, P 0.001). Similar to 2cDI, hcDI showed a declining pattern of β-cell function across the glucose-tolerance groups. Overall, hcDI values were 27percent greater than 2cDI, due to the hyperglycemic versus euglycemic conditions, reflected in a positive bias with Bland-Altman analysis.
