Fourier transform of Schwartz functions on the Heisenberg group
No full textLet H_1 be the 3-dimensional Heisenberg group. We prove that a modified version of the spherical transform is an isomorphism between the space S_m(H_1) of Schwartz functions of type m and the space S(\Sigma_m) consisting of restrictions of Schwartz functions on R^2 to a subset \Sigma_m of the Heisenberg fan with |m| of the half-lines removed. This result is then applied to study the case of general Schwartz functions on H_1
Utility of serological screening for measles, mumps and rubella in immunocompromised patients
No full textMarchi et al. in their article (Measles in pregnancy: a threat for Italian women? Hum Vaccin Immunother. 2019 Jun 20:1–3) observed that 96.9% of pregnant women were positive for anti-measles IgG (with a higher risk of contracting measles in those aged 19–29 years) emphasizing the importance of serological screening before pregnancy. We evaluated seroprotection/seropositivity rates to Measles, Mumps and Rubella in 324 adults with an acquired immune-deficiency needing an immunization program. We found that younger patients (20–29 years) had a seroprevalence below 85%. Overall, a relevant proportion (21.6%, 54/250) of patients was susceptible to at least one infection needing immunization. Our results confirm the usefulness of proper strategies for identifying individuals susceptible to vaccine-preventable infections and protecting them through vaccination
The elusive polemics of theory and practice: Giovanni Astengo, Giorgio Rigotti and the post-war debate over the plan for Turin
No full textIn 1944 Turin's city officials announced a competition for a new General Plan that began a long debate between architects and planners. Prior to and following the competition, intense political and professional polemics emerged: among others, it involved Giorgio Rigotti, a locally renowned planner, and Giovanni Astengo, a key protagonist in Italian post-war town planning. Sharing a common cultural and professional background, Astengo and Rigotti (the author of the plan subsequently adopted by the city) seemed only to differ in their political affiliations and ideological beliefs. Specifically, the difference between the two positions was the degree to which each emphasized the question of implementation. In fact, the polemics that preceded the adoption of the plan (1956-59) may be considered emblematic of one of the most contentious issues in planning: the problematic relationship between theory and practice. © 2000 Taylor & Francis Ltd
