Correction to: Curve of Spee modification in different vertical skeletal patterns after clear aligner therapy: a 3D set-up retrospective study (Progress in Orthodontics, (2024), 25, 1, (5), 10.1186/s40510-023-00503-1)
Correction to: Prog Orthod.25, 5 (2024) https://doi.org/10.1186/s40510-023-00503-1. Following publication of the original article [1], the authors identified an error in the author names of the author group as the given name and family name were erroneously transposed. The incorrect author names are: Ciavarella Domenico, Fanelli Carlotta, Suriano Carmela1, Campobasso Alessandra, Lorusso Mauro, Ferrara Donatella, Maci Marta, Esposito Rosa and Tepedino Michele The correct author names are: Domenico Ciavarella, Carlotta Fanelli, Carmela Suriano, Alessandra Campobasso, Mauro Lorusso, Donatella Ferrara, Marta Maci, Rosa Esposito and Michele Tepedino The author group has been updated above and the original article [1] has been corrected
Romantic biology, 1890–1945
In this book, Esposito presents a historiography of organicist and holistic thought through an examination of the work of leading biologists from Britain and America. He shows how this work relates to earlier Romantic tradition and sets it within the wider context of the history and philosophy of the life sciences
A continuous-time spiking neural network paradigm
In this work, a novel continuous-time spiking neural network
paradigm is presented. Indeed, because of a neuron can fire at any given
time, this kind of approach is necessary. For the purpose of developing a
simulation tool having such a property, an ad-hoc event-driven method is
implemented. A simplified neuron model is introduced with characteristics
similar to the classic Leaky Integrate-and-Fire model, but including the
spike latency effect. The latency takes into account that the firing of a
given neuron is not instantaneous, but occurs after a continuous-time
delay. Both excitatory and inhibitory neurons are considered, and simple
synaptic plasticity rules are modeled. Nevetheless the chance to customize
the network topology, an example with Cellular Neural Network (CNN)-
like connections is presented, and some interesting global effects emerging
from the simulations are reporte
Decision-making styles in an evolutionary perspective
Naturalistic decision-making (NDM) investigates the cognitive strategies used by experts in making decisions in real-world contexts. Unlike studies conducted in the laboratory, the NDM paradigm is applied to real human interactions, often characterized by uncertainty, risk, complexity, time pressures and so on. In this approach, the role of experience is crucial in making possible a quick classification of decision-making situations and therefore in making an effective, rapid and prudent choice. Models of behaviour resulting from these studies represent an extraordinary resource for research and for the application of decision-making strategies in high-risk environments. They particularly underline not only that most of the critical decisions that we take are based on our intuition, but that the ability to recognize patterns and other signals that allow us to act effectively is a natural extension of experience. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020
Vico and the Maker's Knowledge Tradition : Praxis and History
Published in 1710, Giambattista Vico's groundbreaking On the Most Ancient Wisdom of the Italians argued, against Descartes, that knowledge is more about making and producing than speculating and theorising. Historicised activities precede any kind of ethereal abstraction. Maurizio Esposito situates Vico's epistemology of praxis within the longstanding tradition of the maker's knowledge perspective and shows how Vico transformed the ancient idea that knowledge is a form of making into a humanist and existential principle. Humans do not merely fabricate tools and transform nature; they also create symbolic spaces in which different forms of thinking and understanding evolve. Esposito explores the possibility that Vico envisioned a non-Cartesian version of modernity, where praxis, rather than reason, drives human history. This alternative modernity has directly or indirectly influenced some of the most significant philosophical traditions of the past two centuries and is more relevant today than ever

Commentary on Carroll & Esposito Amideo “Gender Equality: Opportunities and challenges for the OR community”
This article comprises a set of commentaries for the paper written by Carroll and Esposito Amideo from different scholars and OR practitioners. The commentaries agree on the importance of documenting the gender situation across the OR community and the need to address it through multiple actions
Biopolitics and thenatopolitics in Michel Foucault and Roberto Esposito
Perhaps in company with Giorgio Agamben, Roberto Esposito is one of the authors that has most worked and redefined the notion of biopolitics (re)invented by Michel Foucault in the 1970s. In this paper, I will present how Foucault and Esposito conceptualize the notion of biopolitics and I argue that the criticisms made by the Italian author are based on an incorrect presentation of the French author
Probing protein structure by solvent perturbation of NMR spectra. II. Determination of surface and buried residues in homologous proteins
The experimental assignment of most residues in a protein to the surface or interior is in principle possible without prior solution of a complete three-dimensional structure. The method described is based on nmr measurements that determine the amino acid composition of the surface of a protein [A. Petros, L. Mueller, and K.D. Kopple (1990) Biochemistry, Vol. 29, pp. 10041-10048; G. Esposito, A. M. Lesk, H. Molinari, A. Motta, N. Niccolai, and A. Pastore (1992) Journal of Molecular Biology, Vol. 224, pp. 659-670]. If these measurements are carried out on several homologous proteins of known sequence, it is possible to combine the results to determine, in most cases, which positions in the sequence contain exposed residues
