On the Dotsenko-Fateev complex twin of the Selberg integral and its extensions

    No full text
The Selberg integral has a twin (`the Dotsenko--Fateev integral') of the following form. We replace real variables xkx_k in the integrand xkσ11xkτ1xkxl2θ\prod |x_k|^{\sigma-1}\,|1-x_k|^{\tau-1} \prod|x_k-x_l|^{2\theta} of the Selberg integral by complex variables zkz_k, integration over a cube we replace by an integration over the whole complex space Cn\mathbb{C}^n. According to Dotsenko, Fateev, and Aomoto, such integral is a product of Gamma functions. We define and evaluate a family of beta integrals over spaces Cm×Cm+1××Cn\mathbb{C}^m\times \mathbb{C}^{m+1}\times \dots \times \mathbb{C}^n, which for m=nm=n gives the complex twin of the Selberg integral mentioned above (with three additional integer parameters)Comment: 15pages; typos are corrected; some proofs are extende

Recognition capabilities of a Hopfield model with auxiliary hidden neurons

    No full text
We study the recognition capabilities of the Hopfield model with auxiliary hidden layers, which emerge naturally upon a Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation. We show that the recognition capabilities of such a model at zero temperature outperform those of the original Hopfield model, due to a substantial increase of the storage capacity and the lack of a naturally defined basin of attraction. The modified model does not fall abruptly into the regime of complete confusion when memory load exceeds a sharp threshold. This latter circumstance, together with an increase of the storage capacity, renders such a modified Hopfield model a promising candidate for further research, with possible diverse applications

Quantum Zeno dynamics of a field in a cavity

    No full text
We analyze the quantum Zeno dynamics that takes place when a field stored in a cavity undergoes frequent interactions with atoms. We show that repeated measurements or unitary operations performed on the atoms probing the field state confine the evolution to tailored subspaces of the total Hilbert space. This confinement leads to nontrivial field evolutions and to the generation of interesting nonclassical states, including mesoscopic field state superpositions. We elucidate the main features of the quantum Zeno mechanism in the context of a state-of-the-art cavity quantum electrodynamics experiment. A plethora of effects is investigated, from state manipulations by phase space tweezers to nearly arbitrary state synthesis. We analyze in details the practical implementation of this dynamics and assess its robustness by numerical simulations including realistic experimental imperfections. We comment on the various perspectives opened by this proposal

Efficacy and safety of lixisenatide once daily vs. placebo in people with Type 2 diabetes insufficiently controlled on metformin (GetGoal-F1).

Aims: T-emerge 2 was a randomized, open-label, 24-week trial comparing subcutaneous taspoglutide 10mg weekly (Taspo10), taspoglutide 20mg weekly (Taspo20; titrated after 4weeks of Taspo10), with exenatide 10 mcg BID (Exe; after 4weeks of Exe 5 mcg) in patients inadequately controlled on metformin, a thiazolidinedione, or both. T-emerge 2 showed that once-weekly Taspo provided better glycaemic control than Exe. This report focuses on a subset of T-emerge 2 participants undergoing a standardized liquid meal comparing Taspo to Exe, which has been previously shown to lower postprandial glucose. Methods: Meal tolerance tests (MTT) were performed at baseline and at week 24 in a subset of Taspo10, Taspo20 and Exe patients (n=42, 39 and 67, respectively). Blood samples for glucose, insulin, glucagon and C-peptide were obtained before and after (30, 60, 90, 120 and 180min) ingestion of a standardized liquid meal. Results: The 2-h postprandial, mean 0-3h and iAUC0-3h glucose during the MTT was reduced to a similar extent in all groups and the time profile of the postprandial glucose showed a similar pattern. Taspo10 and Taspo20, but not Exe, significantly increased insulin from baseline (both mean and iAUC0-3h). Although changes from baseline in C-peptide were not significant within any treatment group, the mean change from baseline (both mean 0-3h and iAUC0-3h) was significantly increased in Taspo10 vs. Exe. Mean glucagon showed significant decreases in all groups. Conclusion: Taspoglutide and Exe improved postprandial glucose tolerance to a similar extent but possibly with different intimate mechanism

The essence of the main technology in the grinding and penetration of diamond grains based on disulfide-molybdenum oil in the surface during their friction and compression. The absence of surface wear for a long time of operation of the crankshaft has been experimentally confirmed
