This article introduces the silhouette of Hindu activist Sunitha Krishan, has been strongly committed to the fight against sexual slavery in India for 20 years. It presents the circumstances of the fact that she started her business, initiatives which was undertaken by her and what was the results of her activities. In summary form the article presents stories that Krishnan has collected by seeing with victims – women and children. The author also essays the presentation of Hindu models of femininity and she demonstrates their influence on the current situation of women. This text is largery based on online sources, articles published on the information portals, interviews with Krishnan and record during the conference with her participation. Udostępnienie publikacji Wydawnictwa Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego finansowane w ramach projektu „Doskonałość naukowa kluczem do doskonałości kształcenia”. Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura: Overview with report of a case

    No full text
Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a disorder associated with a decrease in the number of circulating platelets due to abnormal increased platelet destruction attributed to an autoimmune phenomenon. It is a common cause of thrombocytopenia resulting in bleeding complications in children and adults. ITP is a disorder where the patient may present with oral manifestations, like bleeding, petechia, ecchymosis, hematomas and may report initially to the dentist. It is important for the practitioner to evaluate patients with bleeding disorders and subject them to appropriate laboratory investigatory procedures. A knowledge of dental treatment modifications and use of various local hemostatic measures is a must for the general dental practitioner. This article reports a case of thrombocytopenia in an adult male who reported with a complaint of hemorrhagic bullae and spontaneous bleeding in the oral cavity along with an overview of diagnosis, treatment modalities and dental considerations for such patents

Lyme disease in an experimental mouse model

    No full text
Due to the character of the original source materials and the nature of batch digitization, quality control issues may be present in this document. Please report any quality issues you encounter to [email protected], referencing the URI of the item.Includes bibliographical references. This research was directed at developing a murine model for the investigation of Lyme disease. This study sought to define the route of inoculation necessary to establish infection or disease in susceptible C3H/HeJ mice and also, to determine the virulence of four Borrelia burgdorferi isolates. Further, the influence of MHC Class I and Class 11 genes of the mouse H-2 complex on the susceptibility and/or resistance to Lyme disease was studied. This thesis demonstrates the development of multisysternic infection in the mouse model, namely, dermatological, cardiac, and arthritic lesions in C3HJHeJ mouse. It also demonstrates the involvement of Class I genes (K and D regions) and Class 11 genes (I-A and I-E regions) of the mouse H-2 complex on the quantitative antibody titers. This was achieved by using genetically stable B IO congenic and recombinant strains. The data presented in this thesis strongly supports use of C3HJHeJ and BIO congenic and recombinant strains as potential laboratory animal models for Lyme disease research

Minor thermodtable alkaline protease produced by Thermoactinomyces sp. E79

    No full text
Thermoactinomyces sp. E79 produced two types of thermostable alkaline proteases extracellularly. A minor protease was separated from a major protease by using DEAE-column chromatography. This enzyme was purified to homogeneity by ammonium sulfate and DEAE-Sepharose ion-exchange chromatography. The purified minor protease showed different biochemical properties compared to the major protease. The molecular mass of the purified enzyme was estimated by SDS-PAGE to be 36 kDa. Its optimum temperature and pH for proteolytic activity against Hammarsten casein were 70°C and 9.0, respectively. The enzyme was stable up to 75°C and in an alkaline pH range of 9.0-11.0. The enzyme was inhibited by phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF) and Hg2+, indicating that the enzyme may be a cysteine-dependent serine protease. In addition, the enzyme cleaved the endoproteinase substrate, succinyl-Ala-Ala-Pro-Phe-p-nitroanilide, and the K(m) value for the substrate was 1.2 mM.open

Software based low bit rate speech codec using the Discrete Wavelet Transform

This work explores the use of wavelets in speech compression by developing a speech codec using the Discrete Wavelet Transform. The performance of this codec for different wavelet functions has been analyzed. The codec developed is based on subband coding and ADPCM. The performance of this codec has also been compared to the one developed in [1], which makes use of FIR filters for subband coding

Development of a Model for the TPACK for Children with Learning Disability

    No full text
This paper proposes the development of a model for the TPACK for college students with learning disability. A learning disability is a neurological disorder. Students with learning disabilities are smart as or smarter than their peers. But they may have difficulty in reading, writing, spelling, reasoning, recalling and or organizing information if left to figure things out by themselves or if taught in conventional ways The TPACK framework was derived from the conceptions of Shulman 1986 , who placed importance on the complex inter relationships between the teacher's knowledge about pedagogy, content, and the different ways to characterize subject matter. The broad conception of TPACK is the knowledge regarding the interactions between Content Knowledge CK , Pedagogy Knowledge PK , and Technology Content TK in teaching through the use of technology. Koehler and Mishra emphasized the importance of domains-Pedagogical Content Knowledge PCK , Technological Content Knowledge TCK , Technological Pedagogical Knowledge TPK and TPACK-as a way to see the interaction among the three main domains CK, PK and TK . This paper aims to available TPACK for college students with learning disability and facilitate their learning process in the classroom. Thus this paper tries to answer the following questions. What is meant by learning disability What is meant by TPACK Are there any TPACK available for college students with learning disability A suggestive model of TPACK for college students with learning disability. So, in this paper a TPACK model is presented for college students with learning disability in the higher education. Dr. K. S.
