Peace and non-violence : Sathya Sai education in human values in British schools
Not only is peace one of the values at the heart of Sathya Sai Education in Human Values (SSEHV), it is also presented as one of the programme's outcomes. The SSEHV programme seeks to promote 'human values' in British schools, also with regard to educating pupils from different social, cultural or ethnic backgrounds towards greater tolerance and understanding. The programme aims to achieve this as part of the statutory provision of physical, social and health education (PSHE) and citizenship education as well provision for the social, moral, cultural and spiritual (SMCS) development of pupils in community schools. This article reports on an ethnographic study of SSEHV in the UK, which was conducted by members of the Warwick Religions and Education Research Unit (WRERU) at the University of Warwick. The research reported here focused on the development of the programme, its contents (including the value of 'non-violence' and the practice of 'silent sitting'), its application in the classroom, and its reception by pupils and teachers. Further, this article seeks to embed SSEHV in the wider theoretical context of peace education and suggests theoretical discussions to which this investigation contributes
Spirituality in education : promoting children's spiritual development through values
This paper reports on research in the Warwick Religions and Education Research Unit (WRERU) at the University of Warwick regarding an educational programme, which is based on what are perceived to be universal values. The
programme aims to contribute to the spiritual development of children in schools, which is one of statutory requirements of mainstream school provision in England and Wales. The Sathya Sai Education in Human Values (SSEHV)
offers material which seeks to promote ‘human values’. The paper explores what these values are and why they are perceived to be of a universal nature. The focus on values introduces spiritual dimensions which are examined with reference to the educational contexts in which they are conveyed. The contents of the programme and the development from its inception are described. The paper is based on ethnographic data collected in classrooms and other

misyon ve faaliyetleri'' gibi pek çok konuda sosyoloji, psikoloji ve Dinler Tarihi gibi birçok disiplin için
merak konusu olmuştur, konuya dair çok sayıda analiz ve yorumda bulunulmuştur. Yeni Dini Hareketler'in en
hızlı yayılma imkânı buldukları sahalar, mistik düşüncenin yoğun yaşandığı, dini duyguların istismara daha
açık olduğu topluluklardır. Nitekim mistik düşünceden fazlasıyla beslenen Hint yarımadası Yeni Dini
Hareketler için oldukça elverişli bir havzadır ve burada çok sayıda dini akım ve düşünce meydana gelmiştir.
Sai Baba Hareketi de bu elverişli sahada meydana gelen ve hızla hem Hindistan’da hem de dünyanın pek çok
ülkesinde hatırı sayılır bir kitleye ulaşan hareketlerden yalnızca biridir. Bu nedenle biz de Sai Baba Hareketi
ile ilgili dünya genelinde yapılmış çalışmaların sayısı fazla olmasına rağmen ülkemizde sınırlı sayıda
araştırmanın olmasından dolayı böyle bir çalışma ile katkıda bulunmak istedik.
Üç ana bölümden oluşan çalışmanın asıl konusu; Sai Baba Hareketi’nin diğer dinlerle ilişkisi ve
kapsayıcı bakış açısını nasıl içselleştirdiği, buradan hareketle nerelerde, hangi yollarla yayıldığının
incelenmesidir. Bu çerçevede ilk bölümde Hint alt kıtasının inanç yapısı, geçmişten günümüze varolmuş
dinler ve Hindistan’da meydana gelen Yeni Dini Hareketler hakkında genel bir malumat verilmiştir.
Araştırmanın ikinci bölümünde ilk olarak Shirdi Sai Baba’nın hayatına kısaca değinilmiştir. Zira Sai Baba
Hareketi'nin gelişimi iki guru yoluyla sağlanmıştır. Bunlardan ilki Shirdi Sai Baba (1838-1918), ikinci guru
ise Shirdi Baba’nın enkarnasyonu olduğuna inanılan Sathya Sai Baba (1926-2011)’dır. Ardından Sathya Sai
Baba’nın hayatı hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Bununla birlikte hareketin ana misyonunu daha iyi kavramak
amacıyla çeşitli faaliyetleri incelenmiş; dünya genelinde bulunan kurum ve kuruluşlarından bahsedilmiştir.
Araştırmanın ana bölümü olan üçüncü bölümde ise Sai Baba Hareketi'nin diğer dinlerin müntesipleriyle
kurduğu ilişkiler neticesinde yayılım alanını nasıl genişlettiğine ve hızlandırdığına değinilmiştir. Son olarak
harekete yöneltilen eleştiriler analiz edilerek değerlendirmelerde bulunulmuştur.In recent years, New Religious Movements have been a subject of curiosity for many disciplines such
as sociology, psychology and History of Religions in many subjects such as "why and how they emerged,
expansion areas, typologies, mission and activities", and numerous analyzes and comments have been made
on the subject. The areas where the New Religious Movements have the opportunity to spread the fastest are
the communities where mystical thinking is intense and religious feelings are more open to abuse. As a
matter of fact, the Indian peninsula, which is fed more than mystical thought, is a very favorable basin for
New Religious Movements and many religious movements and thoughts have occurred here. The Sai Baba
Movement is only one of the movements that took place in this favorable field and rapidly reached a
considerable mass both in India and in many countries of the world. For this reason, although the number of
studies on the Sai Baba Movement in the world is high, we wanted to contribute with such a study because
there is not enough research in our country.
The main subject of the study, which consists of three main sections, is to examine the relationship of
the Sai Baba Movement with other religions and how it internalizes its inclusive perspective, and from this
point of view, where and in what ways it spreads. In this context, in the first part, a general information is
given about the belief structure of the Indian subcontinent, the religions that existed from the past to the
present and the New Religious Movements that took place in India. In the second part of the research, the life
of Shirdi Sai Baba was briefly mentioned for the first time. Because the development of the Sai Baba
Movement was achieved through two guru. The first of these is Shirdi Sai Baba (1838-1918), and the second
guru is Sathya Sai Baba (1926-2011), who is believed to be the incarnation of Shirdi Baba. Then, detailed
information about the life of Sathya Sai Baba was given. In addition, various activities were examined in
order to better understand the main mission of the movement; detailed information was given about the
institutions and organizations around the world. In the third part, which is the most important part of the
research, it was mentioned how the Sai Baba Movement expanded and accelerated the field of spread as a
result of establishing good relations with the followers
Effect of body mass index on in vitro fertilization outcomes in women
Background :Obesity has become a major health problem across the world. In women, it is known to cause anovulation, subfecundity, increased risk of fetal anomalies and miscarriage rates. However, in women going for assisted reproduction the effects of obesity on egg quality, embryo quality, clinical pregnancy, live birth rates are controversial. Objectives :To assess the effect of women′s body mass index (BMI) on the reproductive outcome of non donor In vitro fertilization (IVF)/Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The effects of BMI on their gonadotrophin levels (day 2 LH, FSH), gonadotrophin dose required for ovarian stimulation, endometrial thickness and oocyte/embryo quality were looked at, after correcting for age and poor ovarian reserve. Materials and Methods : Retrospective study of medical records of 308 women undergoing non donor IVF cycles in a University affiliated teaching hospital. They were classified into three groups: normal weight (BMI25 30 kg/m 2 ). All women underwent controlled ovarian hyper stimulation using long agonist protocol. Results : There were 88 (28.6%) in the normal weight group, 147 (47.7%) in the overweight and 73 (23.7%) in the obese group. All three groups were comparable with respect to age, duration of infertility, female and male causes of infertility. The three groups were similar with respect to day 2 LH/FSH levels, endometrial thickness and gonadotrophin requirements, oocyte quality, fertilization, cleavage rates, number of good quality embryos and clinical pregnancy rates. Conclusion :Increase in body mass index in women does not appear to have an adverse effect on IVF outcome. However, preconceptual counselling for obese women is a must as weight reduction helps in reducing pregnancy-related complications
Cycling performance of SiOx-Si-C composite anode with different blend ratios of PAA-CMC as binder for lithium sulfur batteries
Silicon (Si) -based materials have been identified as a potential alternative anode owing to their superior theoretical capacity compared to conventional graphitic carbon. Nevertheless, the huge volume change (approximately 300%) that occurs while cycling still hampers this system from 100% practical applications. Silicon-monoxide (SiOx)-based anode materials, on the other hand, are being explored extensively due to their unique properties such as high theoretical capacity, formation of Li2O and LiSiO4 during initial lithiation process that act as a natural volume buffer matrix to accommodate volume changes and formation of a stable solid electrolyte interphase layer, which improves the cyclability and capacity retention. Although poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF) is widely used as a binder, the weak van der Waals forces between PVdF and silicon-based particles fail to bind particles effectively, when substantial volume change occurs. Herein, we prepare a series of SiOx-Si-C electrodes with different binders poly (acrylic acid) (PAA), carboxyl methyl cellulose (CMC) and their blends as binder. The prepared polymeric blends are subjected to thermal, morphological, mechanical and physico-chemical analyses. The Li/ SiOx-Si-C cell assembled with 100% PAA as binder delivered a discharge capacity of 1908 mAh g−1 on its first cycle and 724 mAh g−1 on its 100th cycle with a fade in capacity of 11.8 mAh g−1 per cycle. Upon the incorporation of CMC in the PAA blend the cycling performance was found to be poor. Among the various investigated compositions, the electrode with sole poly (acrylic acid) as a binder offers the highest discharge capacity and this is attributed to the high concentration of the functional (carboxylic) group which forms strong hydrogen bonds with - OH groups on the SiOx or carbon surface. The interfacial properties of the polymeric binders are thoroughly investigated by spectroscopies and electrochemical tests

The noise is zero mean, additive and independent and identically distributed, with imperfectly known standard deviation. We have compared the Maximum Likelihood detector, which uses the Maximum Likelihood parameter estimation algorithm to estimate the standard deviation and detect the signal, with the Neyman-Pearson and sign detectors. The comparison of their performance has been made in terms of the detection probability and the false alarm rate, and the trade-off between these two parameters has been studied. The detectors have been compared for various signal and noise levels as well as the number of samples. We show that the Maximum Likelihood detector is most appropriate for detecting weak signals in applications that require a stable false alarm rate
Isolation, characterization and extraction of antimicrobial compound from marine actinomycete streptomyces hygroscopicus BDUS 49
A total of eight actinomycetes colonies were isolated from near sea shore marine environment locations of Bigeum Island, South West coast of South Korea. Among them, 4 isolates were morphologically distinct on the basis of spore mass colour, reverse side colour, aerial and substrate mycelia formation and production of diffusible pigment. The majority of these isolates were assigned to the genus Streptomyces of which one isolate showing broad spectrum of antimicrobial was on the basis of their morphological, physiological and biochemical properties. Phylo genetic analysis of a 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that strain Streptomyces hygroscopicus BDUS 49 forms a distinct clade within the Streptomyces 16S rRNA gene tree and is closely related to Streptomyces hygroscpicus subsp sub species. This strain possessed a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. The UV spectra of the active compounds in ethyl acetate showed peaks between 200 to 295 nm. The bioactive region was detected on the TLC plate (Rf 0.40). The structure of the bioactive components was further determined using FTIR, MS, 13C NMR and 1H NMR. The molecular formula of the given compound was identified as 7, demethoxy rapamycin C50H 75NO12+NA (MW 905.12).open
Interplay Between Composition and Cycling Performance of Pre-Lithiated SiOx-Si-C Composite Anodes for Lithium–Sulfur Full Cells
Although silicon-based anodes have been identified as a potential alternative to conventional graphite anodes, the huge volume change (approximately 300%) that occurs in silicon while cycling still impedes this system from practical applications. In the case of silicon-suboxide (SiOx)-based anode materials, both Li2O and LiSiO4 are formed during the initial lithiation processes and act as a natural volume buffer matrix to accommodate volume changes and the formation of a stable SEI layer, which improves the cyclability and capacity retention. In this study, a series of SiOx/Si/C-based electrodes composed of different amorphous SiOx, Si, and graphitic carbon contents were prepared. Among the various investigated compositions, the electrode with a ratio of SiOx-Si-C equal to 70:12.5:12.5 was found to be optimal in terms of discharge capacity. This promising electrode was pre-lithiated prior to cycling. Finally, 2032-type lithium–sulfur (Li-S) coin cells composed of a S-C/SiOx-Si-C (pre-lithiated) configuration were assembled and their cycling performances are reported
