Manimekalai is one of the five biggest epics. Its religious principle denotes that love and charity are the two eyes of the human life. Restoration and realization of mankind is the highest doctrine of humanity. We realize the social outlook and voice of humanity by the author Saathanar in this manimekalai epic. Women's woes in Manimekalai
Manimekalai is identified as a renaissance epic and an epic that gives rise to women. Even though it is an epic that promotes women, it can be seen from the literary scenes that many tragedies have taken place in the lives of the women of that time. 'A woman is the enemy of a woman', says the feminist proverb. Many of the women's miseries in the twenty-first century are also present in the epic women's lives of the day. It is the need of the hour to make it come out. Inability of women to think for themselves, indecisiveness, inability to move about in public despite being brave, exclusion of women from home due to immorality, exclusion of women from society due to immorality, lack of respect in society for a child born to an illegitimate woman, lack of respect in the society for a child born to an illegitimate woman, man wanting to be ignorant of it even if he is a married woman (desiring his neighbor), drunken criminal punishment given to women, punishments given to women in the constitution, etc. This article with the help of Manimekalai
Host metabolic interaction and perspectives in phytoplasma research
Phytoplasmas are plant pathogenic bacteria that have large economic
impacts on crops and landscape plants. Knowledge of their biology is limited also
because they are still not easily cultured in media. It is still a mystery how phytoplasmas
use the sugar-rich phloem sap and how they interact with the hosts. It is
agriculturally important to identify the factors involved in their pathogenicity and to
discover effective measures to control phytoplasma-associated diseases. The knowledge
about host-pathogen interaction during the infection process can help to elucidate
the processes leading to symptom expression. Transcriptomics studies paved
the way for analysing the gene expression pattern in phytoplasma-infected plants
and revealed the up-regulation of genes responsible for hormonal balance, transcription
factors, and signalling. Recent studies have identified potential virulence
factors that induce some of the typical phytoplasma disease symptoms and have
started the annotation of their genomes having unique reductive evolution features.
The novel manipulation tool represented by the potential of the synthetic biology
can be helpful for its potential application in studying efficient management strategies
to reduce the agricultural impact of the diseases associated with the phytoplasma
presence
Characterization of Ustilago maydis topoisomerase I: Purification, cloning, biochemical and kinetic analysis
Type I topoisomerases act by transiently breaking one DNA strand, thus allowing the removal of one supercoil. This study is focused on the purification and characterization of the activity of the type I topoisomerase from Ustilago maydis (U. maydis) and its possible role as an enzyme involved in DNA recombination. The U. maydis topoisomerase I represents an excellent model enzyme in the general characterization of higher eukaryotic type I topoisomerases because of the sequence and structural homology between the U. maydis and human topoisomerase I. As highly purified preparation of the native U. maydis topoisomerase I was obtained and enabled the analysis of the activity of this enzyme in the presence of cofactors, characterization of its activity in association with other DNA binding proteins, and most importantly the quantitative and qualitative characterization of the binding of U. maydis topoisomerase I to DNA substrates containing various secondary structures. The U. maydis TOP1 gene encoding DNA topoisomerase I was cloned by amplifying a gene fragment using the polymerase chain reaction and subsequent screening of genomic DNA library using this fragment. The predicted peptide sequence exhibited 30-40% identity to other eukaryotic TOP1 genes, yet differed in two major features. First, an unusually long acidic region was identified near the amino terminus (28/29 residues are acidic), which resembles other nucleolar peptide motifs. Second an atypical carboxy-terminal \u27tail\u27, absent in other TOP1 genes, followed the tyrosine residues of the active site. A top1 gene disruption mutant was constructed by replacing the genomic TOP1 gene, with top1::HygR null allele. This mutant lost the abundant topoisomerase I activity evident on wild-type U. maydis, and displayed a subtle beige coloration phenotype evident during cell senescence. U. maydis TOP1 gene was also expressed in Escherchia coli and yeast cells and topoisomerase I activity was analyzed. The activity of topoisomerase I from the lower eukaryote U. maydis was examined in the presence of chromatin associated proteins in a homogeneous system. H1 histone purified from U. maydis and prebound to DNA stimulated topoisomerase I activity in the presence of MgCl\sb2. Covalent complex formation, an intermediate step in the relaxation cycle, was not influenced by the presence of H1 histone. The nonhistone high mobility group protein (U. maydis HMP), an analog of HMG17, also stimulated topoisomerase I mediated DNA relaxation. Topoisomerase I was found to relax DNA by either processive mode (MgCl\sb2, H1 histone) or distributive mode (HMP). The binding affinity of purified native U. maydis topoisomerase I enzyme for radiolabeled DNA substrates with various secondary structures was determined by gel shift and equilibrium binding analysis. Topoisomerase I exhibited cooperativity in binding to DNA regardless of the substrate structure. Further analysis demonstrated that cruciform DNA has two populations of binding sites for topoisomerase I while the other substrate (single stranded DNA, DNA molecules containing 6 or 1 mismatched base pairs, DNA hairpins, and fully homologous duplex DNA) have a single population of binding sites. Effect of yogic practices on selected physiological variables among hypertensive middle-aged women
Study of Variations in the Origin and the Colic Branches of the Superior Mesenteric Artery
INTRODUCTION :
Superior mesenteric artery shows variation in its origin and its branching pattern.
A sound knowledge of the presence of variations of Superior mesenteric artery is important for Surgeon, Physician, Radiologist, Gastroenterologist and Vascular Surgeon.
AIM OF STUDY :
Examining the pattern of variations in the origin of the Superior mesenteric artery and its colic branches, mainly in South Indian population.
Comparing the variations with the previous study.
PARAMETER :
• Level of origin,
• Course of artery,
• Level of termination,
• In branching pattern,
• Relation with coeliac trunk,
• Relation with pancreas.
MATERIALS AND METHODS :
A total number of fifty Superior mesenteric arteries were studied.
Thirty Superior mesenteric arteries were studied from the cadavers by dissection method at Government Stanley Medical College.
Twenty Superior mesenteric arteries pictures of CT angiogram was taken at Department of Radiology, Government Stanley Medical College.
RESULTS :
The following findings were seen in the present study.
• Normal origin of Superior mesenteric artery from abdominal aorta.
• Superior mesenteric artery and coeliac trunk arose as a common trunk from the abdominal aorta.
• Superior mesenteric artery and Inferior pancreatico duodenal artery had a common origin from the abdominal aorta.
• Absence of middle colic artery.
• Common origin of Right colic artery arising from the ileocolic artery.
• Ileocolic and right colic artery had a common trunk from Superior mesenteric artery.
• Appendicular artery arising from inferior division of ileocolic artery.
• Double appendicular arteries,one from ileocolic artery before division and the other from the inferior division of ileocolic artery.
CONCLUSION :
A thorough knowledge about the normal pattern and abnormal pattern of Superior mesenteric artery and its branches are helpful for correct interpretation of any invasive procedures and resection of colon for carcinoma, intestine transfers, resection of small and large intestines and appendicectomy and embolectomy

Efficacy of White Muscardine Fungus Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin against Fruit borer Earias vitella (Fabricius) in Okra (Abelmosculus esculentus)
The White Muscardine fungus Beauveria bassiana  was tested against second, third and fourth instar larvae of Bhendi fruit borer Earias vitella with conidial suspension mass multiplied in Sabouraud’s Dextrose Broth under invitro  conditions. Of which the second instar larvae showed the maximum mortality with a LC, LD and LT 50 of 2.1 x 107, 4 g/lit of water and 72 h. The Bioassay of the third and fourth instar larvae of Earias vitella for their susceptibility to Beauveria bassiana showed that susceptibility decreased with increase in age of the larvae and required higher concentrations to kill the larvae which indicated that susceptibility to culture depends on the age of the larvae.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Puducherry, Tamilnadu, India2Retd. Effect of yogic practices on selected physiological variables among hypertensive middle-aged women
The purpose of the random group experimental study was to investigate the effect of Yogic Practices on selected Physiological variables such as Systolic, Diastolic and Body Mass Index (BMI) among Hypertensive middle aged women. It was hypothesized that there would be a significant difference due to Yogic Practices on selected Physiological variables such as Systolic, Diastolic and Body Mass Index (BMI) among Hypertensive middle-aged women than the control group. Random group experimental design was used. The random sampling design was followed to select the subjects. To achieve the purpose of the study, 30 women between the age 45 and 55 years were selected randomly from Chennai and they were divided into two groups such as Yogic Practices (Group A) and Control Group (Group B). Each group consists of 15 subjects. The pre-test was taken for the two Groups on the selected dependent variables before the start of the training program. Group A was undergoing Yogic Practices for 12weeks, 6 days a week, One-hour maximum daily and Group B (Control Group) was permitted to undergo their normal lifestyle (active rest) during the course of the experiment. After the experimental period of 12 weeks, Post-tests were conducted for the two groups on selected dependent variables. The selected Physiological variables such as Systolic, Diastolic and Body Mass Index (BMI) were measured through Lab test. Analysis of Co-Variance (ANCOVA) was used to find out the significant difference between experimental group and the Control Group. The test of significance was fixed at 0.05 level of confidence. It was concluded that Yogic Practices improved Physiological variables among Hypertensive middle-aged women than the Control Group. Hence, the hypothesis was accepted at 0.05 level of confidence
