No full textHolograph letter from [P.J. Keohane], Dublin, to Hagan. Asking to give Fr. Magennis 'a quadruple handshake' for 'the desperate fight he has been waging for us in those intervening years' and in adverse circumstances; forgiving him for not obtaining 'that Freemason book' he promised and asking for his own; they will reach an agreement over copyright. Repeating that [the Archbishop of] Cashel is 'as true as steel', and that he is fully aware of the activities of Canon W. [Waters] and Co. which will go to Hagan's credit; Canon Lyons, Ardee, is to be the cardinal's nominee- offering judgement on his character- but assuring Hagan of his belief that the final decision will be unanimous. Asking to give Dr. 'O'G.' [O'Gorman] all facilities needed. Stating that Monsignor O'R [O'Riordan's] last work 'is a decided hit' and will be to the credit of the B. [Catholic Bulletin] which he hopes will be distribute abroad again. Expressing himself relieved over his remarks about 'these Ladies' in Kiltimagh; they are determined to go ahead- Fr. 'A.' [Albert] called, and Keohane promises to send Hagan a copy of letters. Having met Fr. Dargan, he found him quiet and unassuming and not likely to give a false impression; a Fr. MacSweeny is said to have talked negatively about the diet that was supplied in his time; asking to take the report with reserve. On the matter of 'Fr. M' asking for a favour for old Fr. McCarthy, Keohane advises to do what he can for the latter who used to be an army chaplain � he belongs to 'the old shoneen school'. Having received a letter from 'Canon C.' he states that his activities will have to be restrained

No full textIn this thesis , a simulation model of a MEMS gyroscope is presented. The model enables mode matching and analysis of the dynamic behavior of a gyroscope. Furthermore, the model allows the optimization the design parameters of the gyroscope. The simulated gyroscope operates at a frequency of 52MHz with amplitudes of 10nm and quality factor of 50,000. Op project niveau is meestal wel het een en ander bekend over de maatschappelijke effecten, maar over de impact van de totale investeringsinspanning ontbreekt zowel fundamentele als toepasbare kennis. Het is een raadsel dat nog opgelost dient te worden. De doelstelling van dit proefschrift is daaraan een bijdrage te leveren.Housing System
Coupled thermo–hydro–mechanical processes for the Dutch radioactive waste repository
No full textDisposal of spent nuclear fuel and long lived radioactive waste in deep clay geological formations is one of the promising options worldwide. In this concept of the geological disposal system, the Boom Clay is considered as a potential host rock when designing a generic waste repository in the Netherlands. For design and evaluation of a repository for geologic disposal of nuclear wastes one of its principal concern is the thermal loading. High-level radioactive waste and spent fuel generate considerable amounts of heat. When those waste types are disposed in a geological repository the elevated thermal effect on the behaviour of soils surrounding nuclear waste disposal give rise to change in hydraulic and mechanical properties is a significant factor for repository design. Understanding these time-dependent phenomena processes in relation to both the effects of pore water dissipation and of the thermal expansion is essential for reliably assessing repository performance and evaluating the safety case. This paper presents some of the investigation on the thermal processes with emphasis on the coupled Thermo-Hydro- Mechanical (THM) processes for the disposal concept of a radioactive waste disposal facility, in Boom Clay at a depth of about 500m.Geo-engineerin
Probabilistic performance assessment of a deep tunnel for a radioactive waste repository in French COx claystone
No full textA preliminary probabilistic study of the stability of a circular drift excavated for a radioactive waste repository in the French Callovo-Oxfordian claystone is presented and discussed. An analytical mechanical model assuming isotropic elastic behaviour and linear plastic softening was used. Particular emphasis here is placed on the uncertainty of mechanical property values. The test results from several laboratories showed considerably variable property values and they have been interpreted statistically in this investigation. The obtained statistical results were used in a Monte Carlo framework. The performance of the drift was evaluated in terms of the probability of threshold exceedance in the extent of the plastic zone.Geo-engineerin

Opwekking van laagfrequente golven
No full textIn de kustzone komen naast de zichtbare oppervlakte watergolven ook golven met een veel lagere frequentie voor, die met het oog minder goed waarneembaar zijn. Dit komt omdat deze golven lager zijn, minder frequent voorkomen en niet breken. Deze laagfrequente golven blijken een relatie te hebben met de korte golven, en zijn belangrijk voor verschillende processen die zich voordoen in de kustzone, zoals sedimenttransporten en resonanties. Voor het bestuderen van deze processen wordt modelonderzoek verricht. De tot nu toe gebruikte methode voor de aansturing van het golfschot, waarmee laagfrequente golven kunnen worden opgewekt, is erg rekenintensief. Daarom is door P.J. van Leeuwen (TU Delft) en G. Klopman (Delft Hydraulics) een nieuwe theorie ontwikkeld, waarmee eenvoudiger en sneller stuursignalen kunnen worden gegenereerd voor het opwekken van laagfrequente golven. Dit rapport beschrijft de experimenten die uitgevoerd zijn voor de verifikatie van deze nieuwe theorie. In hoofdstuk 1 en 2 staat vermeld wat onder laagfrequente golven wordt verstaan, en in hoofdstuk 3 hoe ze met gebruikmaking van de nieuwe theorie kunnen worden opgewekt. De experimentele opstelling in het laboratorium wordt weergegeven in hoofdstuk 4 en hoofdstuk 5 beschrijft de experimenten. Hoofdstuk 6 geeft de methode van gegevensverwerking weer, en tenslotte worden in hoofdstuk 7 de resultaten vermeld.
