The evolution of human skin pigmentation

    No full text
Human skin pigmentation is the most noticeable evidence of human evolution. Human skin pigmentation has progressively adapted to the local environment as humans have migrated from their central African origin. The purpose of this investigation is to explore the driving factors that have led to the diversity in skin pigmentation and explore the future direction of human skin pigmentation. With the advent of reflectometry-based instruments, researchers have been able to discover relationships between skin reflectance across populations and the average UV exposure experienced in their inhabited area. The reflectometry-based data also allowed researchers to compare the genetics between admixed populations and indigenous populations to discover new genes involved in skin pigmentation. The evolution of skin pigmentation is believed to be a result of the human need for previtamin/vitamin D3, an adaptation that is most significant in childbearing women. With the significant impact that man has on the climate as well as the growing tendency of man to live indoors and in areas with low UV impact, the future evolution of skin pigmentation as well as how humans will adapt to such change remains a mystery.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Vinh Quang L

The emerging legal framework for private sector development in Viet Nam's transitional economy

A major objective of Viet Nam's transition to a market economy has been to reactivate the private sector in a mixed economy. Several new laws have been introduced in the past five years to implement this policy and to create an enabling environment for the private sector. The author reviews some of the more important laws and regulations that affect Viet Nam's private sector activities, including laws on real property, intellectual property, companies, domestic investment, foreign investment, bankruptcy, contracts, and dispute resolution. Anti-monopoly law has not yet been introduced in Viet Nam. The issue of competition is addressed in the context of trade law, the relative roles of the state and private sector, and restrictions in company law. These areas all establish the foundation of a legal framework for a market economy. The author concludes that Viet Nam's legal framework, like China's, is still influenced by ideology, which causes problems in such areas as private ownership of real property and with such fundamental legal concepts as"due process of law."It is noted that the private sector is constrained by the lack of an independent judiciary, the absence of private land ownership, other uncertainties in property law that limit the develpoment of financial markets, and the inherent bias of the system in favor of the state sector (and collective ownership). Also noted is a law-abiding attitude, equally important to development has been slow to develop. The author goes on to point out that the foreign investment process is too complicated, and its company law too restrictive. A first priority should be to strreamline regulations, as well as liberalize trade policy and increase efforts in privatization of state enterprises. In this respect the author notes that export processing zones may be a useful interim instrument to attract foreign investment but should be phased out over time. More important in the long term is a good investment climate resting on a strong legal foundation.Legal Products,Environmental Economics&Policies,Banks&Banking Reform,Municipal Housing and Land,Municipal Financial Management,Environmental Economics&Policies,Banks&Banking Reform,Municipal Housing and Land,Legal Products,Municipal Financial Management

Practice Chair Urban Area Developmen

The Internet has played an essential role in human life with its convenience, and it has been attached to people’s lives for several decades. Many people daily use the Internet on their own electronic devices for various purposes. In fact, through human habits and behavior that use electronic devices to access the Internet daily, user experience design has been created to enhance the Interaction of humans with the application and websites in their own devices. The thesis idea was based on Bumi Asian Kitchen & Café, an Asian restaurant in Helsinki. Bumi is also no exception with the traditional business, which has served its regular food menu on the street corner since 2016. By combining technology and human behaviors, the thesis aims to research customer behavior and expectations and develop a website design for a restaurant to bring a convenient user experience and exemplary user interface to its customers. That website design helps the business attract customers, raise the reputation, and enhance customer connection in the smooth method. In the thesis, the essential design knowledge will clarify the basis of user experience and user interface. The author then keeps researching the website’s basic knowledge to describe the importance of website design and website usability. The author uses the qualitative method and ex-plains the UX design methodology with persona, customer journey, heuristic evaluation, user inter-view, and usability testing before choosing a suitable methodology for the practical process of web-site development for Bumi Asian Kitchen & Cafe. After evaluation based on data collection, author can point out the advantages of website development that bring to a restaurant business

Dynamics of hybrid PM/EM electromagnetic valve in SI engines

    Get PDF
Some previous studies demonstrated the advantages of electromagnetic valve train (EMV) for controlling variable valve timing (VVT) in SI engines. EMV allows valve timings and duration events are optimized in wide operating ranges. However, conventional EMV with solenoid actuator consumes a larger amount of energy in catching the valve at engine start and in keeping valve at open or closed position. A new EMV with hybrid permanent magnet and electromagnetic coil (PM/EM) has been proposed in this paper. An engine model with new EMV has been built to simulate the valve dynamics. Additionally, the effects of the flow gas resistance and damp coefficient have also been examined and analyzed. The results show that the new EMV can satisfy the valve dynamics in transition time, valve velocity, acceleration, energy consumption, etc. in controlling valve timing for SI engines

PROPOSING A VALVE TRAIN SYSTEM FOR CYLINDER DEACTIVATION IN SI ENGINES

    No full text
Cylinder deactivation method can provide many advantages in improving emissions and fuel consumption at various load ranges in spark ignition (SI) engines. The study proposes a design valve train that can control the deactivation of cylinder in an inline SI engine with four cylinders. The proposed design, which is an improvement on the conventional valve train in the engine, can deactivate one- or two-cylinder mode depending on part or medium load in a vehicle. The results show that cylinder deactivation can reduce about 13–15% of fuel consumption compared with the conventional engine. The concentration of CO reduces by 15%, whereas HC decreases to about 8% when SI engine operates with different cylinder deactivation modes. </jats:p

A NEW ELECTROMAGNETIC VALVE TRAIN WITH PM/EM ACTUATOR IN SI ENGINES

    No full text
This paper proposes a new electromagnetic valve train (EMV), which uses hybrid permanent magnet and electromagnetic coil (PM/EM). The new EMV is characterized by a special structure, simple actuator as well as optimal parameter designs. This EMV brings many benefits, such as valve dynamic, actuator control, and low operation energy consumption, etc. The simulation results show that this EMV achieves a 15% volume reduction and a 20% enhancement in holding force by special armature design. Additionally, the estimated energy consumption of EMV operation for the proposed EMV indicates that this EMV has the lowest operating energy compared with other EMVs. </jats:p
