No full textIn this chapter, I will discuss Agamben's work through an analysis of one of his recurrent techniques: the genealogical interlacing of apparently antithetical concepts. I will examine this technique of Agamben's in some detail, with particular reference to what it enables him to adopt from and reshape in the work of Michel Foucault. In doing so, I give some justifications for Agamben's procedure in quite abstract philosophical terms, before showing how the challenges it raises are anything but abstract. I further show how this technique functions as a kind of motor for Agamben's work, driving him to extend and revisit his own theses on biopolitics. I conclude with a remark on its recent redeployment in The Kingdom and the glory, where it enables a further rearticulation of familiar political oppositions, such as those between thought and action, power and glory, and repressive and ideological state apparatuses. Finally, I suggest that it is this intellectual operation of Agamben's that gives us an orientation towards the challenges of radical politics today, as well as itself being a mode of pursuing such a politics

I tatuaggi sono diventati un vero fenomeno di massa e, con l'aumento dei tatuati appartenenti a diverse fasce di età, si assiste anche a un incremento delle reazioni avverse associate a tale pratica. Sia in dermatologia che in medicina estetica, verranno descritti i tatuaggi comuni e i tatuaggi estetici con esperienze dermatologiche, cosmetologiche e con tecniche moderne di tatuazione. Viene affrontato il significato psicologico che si cela dietro la scelta di un tatuaggio e l'importanza di affidarsi a centri di massima sicurezza in termini igienici e sanitari con conseguente descrizione delle norme europee vigenti con l'Istituto superiore di sanità. In ambito legale, sono descritti limiti e divieti prima dell'esecuzione di un tatuaggio e i danni morali nel caso di pazienti di età inferiore di 18 anni oltre al tema dell'idoneità ai concorsi militari in caso di concorrenti tatuati. Sono infine descritte le metodiche di rimozione dei tatuaggi con tecniche di chirurgia plastica e i risultati ottenuti grazie a laser sempre più sofisticati
Organic waste valorisation towards circular and sustainable biocomposites
Full text linkThe adoption of circular production and consumption patterns that counteract the current issues related to the depletion of natural resources, global warming, and environmental pollution is one of the most pressing global challenges that faces our society. Considering the potential of organic waste and residue streams to be transformed into valuable products, much effort is now being directed to foster circular bio-economy strategies. The valorisation of organic waste reduces the pressure on non-renewable resources and avoids the generation of waste. Organic waste valorisation has attracted much attention from fundamental and applied fields, given its wide availability and versatility. This review aims to provide an insight into valorisation of organic waste of aquatic, agricultural, forestry and animal origin to polymeric matrices, bionanoparticles and their combination. An introductory analysis dealing with state-of-the-art circular bioeconomy, recycling and upcycling is provided. Then, a literature review in the context of biopolymers and derived nanoparticles is provided, emphasizing toxicity and biodegradability aspects. The environmental impacts of valorisation processes are analyzed according to life cycle assessment. The establishment of organic waste conversion routes will lead to innovative bio-based industries, opening new market opportunities for bio-based products and achieving efficient resource utilisation. However, the social, economic and political barriers still encountered must be overcome
Antioxidant Packaging Films Based on Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer (EVOH) and Caffeic Acid
Full text linkThe main objective of this research activity was to design and realize active films with tunable food functional properties. In detail, caffeic acid (CA), a polyphenol with high antioxidant effect, was used as active ingredient in poly (vinyl alcohol-co-ethylene) (EVOH) films at 5 wt.% and 15 wt.% and successfully realized by means of the solvent casting process. Optical, morphological, thermal and mechanical studies were considered to define the effect of the presence of the CA component on the structural properties of the matrix. In addition, moisture content and antioxidant activity were evaluated, to have clear information on the CA effect in terms of functional characteristics of realized food packaging systems. Results from tensile tests showed increased values for strength and deformation at break in EVOH_CA based films. Results from colorimetric and transparency analysis underlined that the presence of caffeic acid in EVOH copolymer induces some alterations, whereas the addition of the active ingredient determined a positive radical scavenging activity of the formulations, confirming the possibility of practically using these polymeric systems in the food packaging sector
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
