The aims of this research was to determine the forest of Tridharma as a location for wood durability test. The method used adopt the technique analysis of vegetation method by combination transect. The result of this research shows that the forest of Tridharma USU as a location for wood durable test was decent, provedly with finding average 103.884 termites at each nest (three of nest termite have been forced). The difference inphysical-chemical propertiesaffect thedetermination of thequality of theincense, so that willaffect the value/selling priceof eachqualityincense.     TIGOR BARUS : Resilience-Fiber Cement Board Cartons Paper Waste Of Water Immersion. Supervisied by Luthfi Hakim and Arif Nuryawan. Cement board has great potential as a substituted wood for building construction. The research was conducted in Laboratoruim Forestry Department of Forest Products Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatera aim of this study was to evaluate the durability of cement boards from cardboard waste to water depth. Cement board under test measuring 50 mm x 50 mm x 10 mm with the addition of catalyst Calcium Chloride (CaCl2), Aluminum sulfate (Al2(SO4 3), and Sodium Silicate (SiSO2) and without catalyst as a control. Utilization of Extractive Substances Mindi Bark (M. azedarach Linn.) as a Natural Preservative to Control Fungal Attack S. commune on Rubber Wood (H. brasiliensis) Supervised by RIDWANTI BATUBARA and LUTHFI HAKIM The fungus S. commune is one of the wood-rot fungus that often attacks the rubber timber that can degrade the quality of the wood. Research aims to test the bark extract Mindi (M. azedarach Linn.) to control fungal S. commune at different concentrations using methanol solvent. Wood preservation using bark extract Mindi (M. azedarach Linn.) In a concentration of 4 levels (0%, 2%, 4% and 6%) was used to suppress the growth of fungi, thus increasing the durability of rubber wood. Research methods to calculated the percentage of chinaberry bark extract concentration, retention test, dimensional stability test, and test against fungi. Testing was done by testing retention, dimensional stability test, and test against fungi. Retention testing showed differences in concentration affects the amount of preservative into the timber. Dimensional stability test showed differences in concentration do not affect the value of ASE (Antisweeling Efficiency). Tests on the fungus S. commune showed concentration factors influencing the magnitude of weight loss due to fungal attack rubber wood. Based on the SNI standard 01- 72072-2006, preservation with 6% recommended concentration is applied to improve the resilience of rubber wood from fungal attack S. commune.47 HalamanSkripsi Sarjan

    Characteristics of Cement Board made from Corrugated Paper Waste with Sodium Silicate Catalyst Addition. Supervised by Tito Sucipto, S.Hut, M.Si and Luthfi Hakim, S.Hut, M.Si. Cement board based of corrugated paper waste still has not been researched. Cement board holds great potential as a wood substitute materials for building construction. The research objective was to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of cement board as well resistance to termite attack. Boards made with size 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm and a density 1 g/cm3 under various composition of cement : fiber : water ratio with addition of sodium silicate catalysts. Physical and mechanical properties of cement board that fulfill the standards were the density, water absorption and MOE, while the moisture content, thickness swelling and MOR not fulfill the standards. The value of the cement board using sodium silicate catalyst that fulfill the standards is the density ranges from 1,01 g/cm3- 1,08 g/cm3, water absorption 13,01%-28,31%, MOE 562,76 kg/cm2-1015,68 kg/cm2 while the cement board without catalyst density ranges from 1,06 g/cm3-1,09 g/cm3, water absorption 17,83%-26,96%, MOE 172,93 kg/cm2-465,48 kg/cm2. The cement board has a relatively high durability against termite attack. Cement board that has the best quality based on the testing of physical properties, mechanical properties and resistance to termite attack there on the composition ratio of cement : fiber : water (2,5 : 1 : 1,25) with an addition of sodium silicate catalyst.60 HalamanSkripsi Sarjan

    FRISCO PANAHATAN S. Analisis Kerugian dan Pemetaan Sebaran Serangan Rayap Pada Bangunan SD Negeri Di Bagian Barat Kota Pekanbaru. Dibawah bimbingan akademik oleh YUNUS AFIFUDIN dan LUTHFI HAKIM. Sekolah dasar sebagai salah satu fasilitas umum yang sangat penting dan perlu dijaga agar tetap berada pada kondisi yang baik. Serangan rayap pada bangunan gedung pada saat ini merupakan masalah yang sangat besar mengingat intensitas serangannya yang semakin tinggi dan meluas sehingga nilai kerugian akibat serangan rayap cenderung meningkat dari tahun ke tahun. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan nilai kerugian ekonomis serangan rayap dan mendapatkan peta sebaran jenis rayap pada bangunan SD Negeri di bagian barat Kota Pekanbaru. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dari bulan Juli 2014 sampai Agustus 2014 menggunakan metode Purposive Sampling 15% dari jumlah total sekolah SD Negeri yang ada di kota Pekanbaru. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pengamatan langsung dan wawancara dilapangan dengan menggunakan kuisioner. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dipetakan dengan menggunakan GIS (Geographic Information System). Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa kerusakan ringan sebesar 60% dan kerusakan sedang 40%. Kerugian ekonomis serangan rayap terhadap bangunan Sekolah Dasar Negeri adalah Rp334.130.000,00 untuk standar kayu tembesu dan Rp246.367.000,00 untuk standar kayu meranti.     Friska Evalina Ginting : Camparison of anatomy characteristic for Natural Pine (Pinus merkusii) and Planted. Under the guidances of Luthfi Hakim S.Hut, M.si and Ridwanti Batubara.Hut, MP. Wood comes from trees that have different characteristics. They are referred to wood anatomy, physics and chemical characteristics. The purpose of this study is to compare the anatomical characteristics of Pine's wood with planted ; to measure fiber’s dimensional derivative; to measure fiber’s dimensional derivative and compare the quality of natural pine’s wood fiber with a planted. The methods used are the macroscopic observation by using a magnifying glass as well as microscopic observation by maceration’s processing and dimensional measuring using a microscope. The results showed that the anatomical characteristics of natural Pine's and planted are not much different, there is only a little difference in the color of wood. Dimensions of fiber (fiber’s length, fiber’s diameter, lumen’s diameter and fiber’s wall thickness) from the highest to the lowest is planted Pines > natural Pines . Values of dimensional derivative (Runkle ratio, Felting power, Muhlsteph ratio, Coefficient of rigidity, Flexibility ratio) of pine’s fiber in a row for the natural are 0.95: 67.93: 69.89: 0.23: 0.54 while for the planted in a row are 0.73: 77.22: 72.02 ; 0.25; 0.50. Based on Indonesian assessment criteria of wood fibers as raw material for pulp and paper, the two types of Pine's (natural and Planted) are included in quality of class II.71 HalamanSkripsi Sarjan

    SARI DELVIANA MARBUN: Durability of Fiber Plastic Composite (FPC) to Marine Borer Attack, supervised by LUTHFI HAKIM and RIDWANTI BATUBARA. Fiber Plastic Composite (FPC) is one of biocomposite products consists of fiber lignocellulosic materials as filler and plastic as adhesive. In this research, FPC made from recycle polypropilene and old corrugated paper fibre. The purpose of this research were to evaluate durability the physical properties, measure weight loss and intensity of the attacks in marine borer after being soaked for six months in the harbour of Belawan. This research use completely randomized factorial design, 2 factors: compositions polyprophylene and fiber (50:50, 60:40 and 70:30) and type of plastic (recycled once and recycled more than once). The results compare with JIS A 5905-2003 hardboard S20, JIS A 5908-2003 particleboards type 13 and SNI 01-7207-2006. The results showed that the physical properties of FPC fulfill standard JIS A 5905-2003 hardboard S20 and JIS A 5908-2003 particleboards type 13 after being soaked in the sea for six months except moisture content. Even so, the moisture content for PP 70:30 (recycled once and recycled more than once) still fulfill JIS A 5905-2003 hardboard S20 and JIS A 5908-2003 particleboards type 13. Moreover, the resistance FPC of against marine borer attack (weight loss and intensity of the attacks) fulfill SNI 01-7207-2006. The results showed that all FPC were attacked by marine borer. Related to the strength , the structure of the building is planned based on the load to occur and the power structure of the materials used. The tendency of the danger of attacked by termites in buildings including residential function at this point is getting higher. This study intend to get the value of economic losses termite attack, and get the information types and the spread of termites that attack the buildings of Senior High School and Vocational High School in Pekanbaru. The research was conducted on July until August 2014. The method was used is direct observation and interviews. The results mapped with GIS applications. There are two types of bamboo that is often used by the people in the utilization of the basic ingredients of green bamboo crafts (Gigantochloa apus) and bamboo gutters (Schizostachyum brachdladum). This type of bamboo used for the base material is a bamboo basket-making craft of green (Gigantochloa apus) and the manufacture of the bamboo gutters tepas (Schizostachyum brachdladum).
