    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    مستخلص البحث أسلوب لغة من ناحية بنية الجملة هي كأساس لإنشاء أسلوب اللغة. المقصود ببنية الجملة هنا هو كيفية وضع عنصر الجملة المهم في الجملة. هناك جمل دورية، فضفاضة، ومتوازنة. ينقسم أسلوب اللغة القائم على بنية الجملة إلى؛ ذروة (klimaks)، هبوط مفاجئ (antiklimaks)، التوازي (pararelisme)، مناقضة (antitesis)، التكرار (repetisi). وإحدى منها هي أسلوب في نثر نشيد الإنسان. الأسئلة من هذا البحث هي: أ) ما أسلوب لغة نثر نشيد الإنسان من ناحية بنية الجملة، ب) كيف تركيب أسلوب لغة بين الجمل في نثر نشيد الإنسان من ناحية بنية الجملة. الهدف من هذا البحث هو معرفة أسلوب لغة من ناحية بنية الجملة في النثر و تركيب أسلوب لغة بين الجمل في نثر نشيد الإنسان من ناحية بنية الجملة. مدخل هذا البحث هو البحث الكيفي ونوعه هو البحث المكتبي. طريقة جمع البيانات المستخدمة في هذا البحث هي طريقة القراءة والتسجيل. وحلل الباحث البيانات المجموعة باستخدام تحليل الوصفي عند ميليز وهوبرمان، وهي تقليل البيانات، وعرض البيانات، واستنباط الخلصة. أما نتائج هذا البحث هي: أ) أسلوب لغة من ناحية بنية الجملة في هذا النثر يوجد ستة وعشرون أسلوبا. منها ثلاثة أسلوب ذروة (klimaks)، وأربعة أسلوب هبوط مفاجئ (antiklimaks)، وثلاثة أسلوب التوازي (pararelisme)، وستة أسلوب مناقضة (antitesis)، و عشرة أسلوب التكرار (repetisi). وجد الباحث نوعين أسلوب التكرار في هذا النثر، يعني التكرار الأنافورا (anaphora) وتكرار إيباناليبسيس (epanalepsis). تسعة التكرار الأنافورا (anaphora) وواحد تكرار إيباناليبسيس (epanalepsis). ب) تركيب أسلوب لغة بين الجمل في نثر نشيد الإنسان من ناحية بنية الجملة يوجد عشرة أسلوبا. منها أربعة تكرار، مناقضة، هبوط مفاجئ (repetisi, antitesis, antiklimaks ) و اثنين تكرار، مناقضة، توازي (repetisi, antitesis, pararelisme)، ثلاثة تكرار، ذروة (repetisi, klimaks)، وواحد تكرار، توازي، هبوط مفاجئ (repetisi, pararelisme, antiklimaks). ABSTRACT Style of language based on sentence structure can be used as a basis for creating language style. What is meant by sentence structure here is how to place an element of sentence that is important in the sentence. There are sentences that are periodic, are loose, and are balanced. Language style based on sentence structure is divided into; climax, anticlimax, parallelism, antithesis, repetition. One of them is the language style in prose “نشيد الإنسان” by Gibran Khalil Gibran. The questions of this research are: a) what style of language based on the structure of the sentence in prose “نشيد الإنسان” by Gibran Khalil Gibran, b) how structure of style based on the structure of the sentence between sentenses in prose “نشيد الإنسان” by Gibran Khalil Gibran. The research’s aim is find out style of language based on the structure of the sentence in prose and structure of style based on the structure of the sentence between sentenses. The kind of this research is qualitative. The data collection technique used in this research is a reading and noting technique. Then, data were analyzed by researchers used descriptive analysis with data analysis models according to Miles and Huberman, it was data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The result of this research showed that; a) style of language based on the structure of the sentence there are twenty-six style. Including three climax , four antiklimaks, three paralleisme, six antitesis, and ten repetition. The researcher found two types of repetition in this prose, namely anaphora and epanalepsis. Nine anaphora and one epanalepsis. b) structure of style based on the structure of the sentence between sentenses there are ten style including four repetition, antitesis, anticlimax; two repetition, antitesis, pararelisme; three repetition, climax; and one repetition, pararelisme, anticlimax. ABSTRAK Gaya bahasa berdasarkan struktur kalimat, struktur sebuah kalimat dapat dijadikan landasan untuk menciptakan gaya bahasa. Yang dimaksud dengan struktur kalimat disini adalah bagaimana tempat sebuah unsur kalimat yang dipentingkan dalam kalimat tersebut. Ada kalimat yang bersifat periodik, bersifat kendur, dan bersifat berimbang. Gaya bahasa berdasarkan struktur kalimat terbagi atas; klimaks, antiklimaks, pararelisme, antitesis, repetisi. Fenomena gaya bahasa itupun juga ada dalam prosa نشيد الإنسان karya Gibran Khalil Gibran. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah: a) apa gaya bahasa berdasarkan struktur kalimat dalam prosa نشيد الإنسان karya Gibran Khalil Gibran, b) bagaimana susunan gaya bahasa berdasarkan struktur kalimat yang ada di prosa نشيد الإنسان karya Gibran Khalil Gibran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gaya bahasa berdasarkan struktur kalimat dalam prosa dan susunan gaya bahasa berdasarkan struktur kalimat, antar kalimat yang ada di prosa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik membaca dan mencatat. Kemudian, data dianalisis oleh peneliti menggunakan analisis deskriptif dengan model analisis data menurut Miles dan Huberman, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa; a) gaya bahasa berdasarkan struktur kalimat ada dua puluh enam gaya. Diantaranya tiga klimaks, empat antiklimaks, tiga paralleisme, enam antitesis, dan sepuluh repetisi. Peneliti menemukan dua jenis repetisi dalam prosa ini, yaitu anafora dan epanalepsis. Sembilan anafora dan satu epanalepsis. b) struktur gaya berdasarkan pada struktur kalimat yang ada antar kalimat dalam prosa ada sepuluh gaya bahasa diantaranya empat repetisi, antitesis, antiklimaks; dua repetisi, antitesis, pararelisme; tiga repetisi, klimaks; dan satu repetisi, pararelisme, antiklimaks

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
