Human-centered design and generative artificial intelligence: the construction of an artifact focused on leisure travel in the Brazilian tourism sector
Social distancing and isolation measures were adopted as strategies to try to control the spread of the virus generated a sudden decrease and interruption in the movement of tourism around the world (Gössling, Scott, & Hall, 2020). Just two years after the pandemic, the Brazilian tourism sector marked a period of recovery and has been standing out as a growing market. However, users still facing difficulties, especially when it comes to finding travel planning services that adequately integrate information about the destination, budget and their individual preferences in a personalized and intuitive way. In response to the developments driven by Industry 4.0, emerged the movement called Tourism 4.0, arising from changes in travelers\' behavior. Therefore, the main objective of this dissertation was to build an artifact to add value to the user experience when planning their leisure trips in Brazil, integrating Human Centered Design (HCD) with generative Artificial Intelligence, personalized through prompt engineering techniques. In order to achieve this objective, the following secondary objectives were defined: (1) To investigate the feasibility of building an artifact for planning leisure trips in Brazil, integrating Human Centered Design (HCD) with generative Artificial Intelligence; and, if possible, (2) to create an experimental version of the artifact; (3) to validate this version with possible users and identify any improvements; and (4) to implement the improvements identified from the feedback of possible users to build the final artifact, thus meeting the main objective of the research. To this end, a qualitative, exploratory, and explanatory study was carried out using the Design Science Research (DSR) method, which focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating technological artifacts based on cycles of relevance, rigor, and design. DSR was applied to ensure that the artifact developed was theoretically grounded but also practical and effective, combining technological advances with user-centered practices. To collect secondary data, a literature search was carried out, aiming to construct an artifact and, to collect primary data, both semi-structured interviews were carried out with academic and professional experts from the tourism sector, as well as Think Aloud sessions, with potential users, aiming to validate the constructed artifact and identify possible improvements. Therefore, it is hoped that the artifact built, validated, and perfected will contribute to the business field, as it can generate personalized itineraries based on user preferences and adapt travel planning to the destination, budget, and available time of users, optimizing leisure travel planning in Brazil. It is also expected to contribute to the academic field by advancing studies on service design by integrating HCD with generative AI, focusing on a solution capable of combining advanced technology with efficiency to improve Brazil\'s leisure travel planning proces
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Online grocery: a study on the advantages, barriers, challenges, transformations and opportunities in the Brazilian market
Although grocery retail is a multi-billion dollar business in Brazil, it is clearly still a business in its early stages online. Studies about online groceries began to gain prominence in academic discussions only recently, largely boosted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, studies reflecting the latest consumer habits and business changes in the Brazilian market in recent years are still scarce. In this context, this research had aimed to identify the advantages and barriers of online grocery shopping by the point of view of the experts; the main challenges faced by online retailers working with those products; and highlight opportunities to be explored in this business. An exploratory, qualitative research was developed, using a combination of secondary (books, scientific articles, publications in specialized journals, and others) and primary sources of data (semi-structured in-depth interviews carried out). In total, 19 experts with different perspectives on the online grocery business in Brazil were interviewed. To evaluate the contents of these interviews, Content Analysis techniques were applied in NVivo. The study confirmed that online grocery shopping in Brazil is still at an early stage and that, despite being an alternative capable of saving time, money and providing access to more products, brands, and stores, its potential is still limited by recurrently bad experiences, shopping habits deeply rooted, lack of consideration from customers, social and sensorial shopping experiences worse than in-store, among others. The study also highlighted the challenges to building a business in this segment that according to the specialists perspective, still suffers from logistics and operational complexities intrinsic to the nature of the products, demands high investment, operates with low margins, and bumps into difficulties to acquire customers. Lastly, the study also identified opportunities to be explored in the Brazilian market, such as the emergence of broader and more complete solutions, the improvement of the online purchase experience and the service level delivered by retailers, and also the emergence of new solutions capable of serving low-income families more effectively
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
The journey of digital transformation in a multi-level direct sales company: from door to door to click to ckick case study of Amway do Brasil
Companies, in general, have been facing severe changes imposed by the digital economy and intensified by COVID-19. This pandemic, in addition to decimating thousands of lives around the world, also drastically affected the economy. Small and medium-sized companies were the most affected, due to the lack of financial resources and digital strategies, resulting in the closure of many of them. At the same time, consumer behavior has changed, leading to an increase in the use of digital channels to make purchases. However, updating systems or implementing technologies does not guarantee financial return or added value, and investments must be part of the digital transformation strategy. In this context, the main objective of this dissertation was to analyze the journey of digital transformation in companies in the multi-level direct sales sector in Brazil. The research adopted a qualitative approach, with an exploratory objective and used semi-structured interviews to carry out a single case study. The first stage of the research consisted of a literature review on the topic, which made it possible to understand the main concepts that underpinned it, namely, direct sales and digital transformation. Subsequently, interviews were conducted with 3 company employees and 3 resellers, seeking to analyze the changes that occurred before, during and after the pandemic. The results indicated that the pandemic was a catalyst for digital transformation, forcing Amway do Brasil to adopt new technologies and digital strategies to maintain competitiveness. The analysis revealed that there were changes in the company\'s business model, that the current one is the convergence of face-to-face and digital and the digital transformation was essential for the company\'s innovation and sustainability in the post-pandemic scenario. In this way, it is expected that this study will contribute to Academia and the Market, by providing a detailed understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with the journey of digital transformation in a specific sector that is so relevant to the Brazilian economy
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Corporate Venture Builder as an Open Innovation model: a case study in Pharmaceutical retail in Brazil
The need of companies to survive in an increasingly fast changing world demands from organizations an effort to seek innovation. The classic model of research and development to build proprietary knowledge and technology lost strength in the 2nd half of the 20th century, due to phenomena such as the internet, high employee turnover and the emergence of new businesses that were disruptive to several industries. Another path that has emerged in this context is Open Innovation, through which companies seek a relationship with the startup ecosystem to follow market trends and thus be able to react more quickly, before being undermined by market changes. One of the most promising mechanisms of Open Innovation is the Corporate Venture Builder model, which brings a good cost-benefit relationship to organizations that use it. In this context, the main objective of this research was to analyze how the Corporate Venture Builder model can promote Open Innovation between companies and stakeholders of an innovation ecosystem (among them the innovation consultant partner, startups and angel-investors). To this end, qualitative research was carried out with the case study of the implementation of Corporate Venture Builder FARMA Ventures in Brazil. Primary data was collected through semi-structured interviews, refined through discourse analysis and coded based on the theoretical framework. The interviews were transcribed and helped to understand how the Corporate Venture Builder is structured and its modus operandi. Furthermore, the role of each of the participants in the multi-company venture was identified, the effort with which each contributes to the success of the operation, and what motivations each party has, including short and long terms expectations. In general, it was clear that the symbiotic action of these characters brings gains for each of them. The model, still new, shows the potential of the application to generate a flow of solutions coming from the portfolio of invested startups, with part of the solutions being used by the sponsoring corporations themselves, part of them by the business chain in which they are inserted. The results are still more focused on incremental performance gains, with room to explore more disruptive solutions. To this end, deeper cultural work in corporations is still necessary to seek more long- term gains and greater impact on the business model in the pharmaceutical industry in Brazil. In addition, the model can be adopted in other types of industries
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
