Padrões culturais controversos em Amar, verbo intransitivo, de Mário de Andrade

    No full text
This article aims to stress the contribution of Amar, verbo intransitivo to Mário de Andrades’s comprehension of Brazilian culture. Beyond the specific intention of the novel, the suggestion is to use Nietzsche’s Unfashionable Observations as a hermeneutic tool to highlight the satire against the Brazilian bourgeoisie. The mediocre feature of the German protagonist revealed by the approximation of the two texts suggests a paradox with the other characters’ reverential attitude towards her, thus unveiling a controversial universe of values and paradigms and contributing to understand the novel’s significance in Andrade’s whole production. This uncritical devotion towards foreign cultural patterns gives a tragicomic image of a ridiculous but powerful middle class

    A técnica e o golpe

The primary objective of this paper is to provide a comparative reading of Curzio Malaparte’s The Technique of Revolution and José Cardoso Pires’ Censorship as a Technique. It is possible to recognize affinities between Malaparte’s essay and Cardoso Pires’ one, especially as far as methodology is concerned. Both works share a particular view on dictatorship. Malaparte’s essay is focused on the technical functioning of modern coup d’état regardless of its specific intention, while Cardoso Pires develops a non-ideological analysis on Salazar’s censorship. Both revolution and censorship are considered from the point of view of their technical efficiency, thus enabling the authors to discuss also subversive strategies against them. My analysis provides an interpretation of this modus operandi that highlights how Cardoso Pires merges essay and narrative in order to question the Portuguese reality

In situ-Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical characterization on electroless nickel immersion gold process

    No full text
Electroless nickel immersion gold (ENIG) process is one of the most used selective finishing in PCB production. It involves two different electroless deposition mechanisms: (1) NiP autocatalytic deposition and (2) gold galvanic plating where coating is obtained by a displacement reaction. Because during the ENIG process, NiP is dissolved from the electrode surface into the solution, it can be considered as a controlled corrosion process. For this reason, selection of the complexing agents in solution is crucial. Since they are the most used complexing agents, in this study EDTA and citric acid have been selected. In order to understand their effects on the NiP surface during the immersion plating, open circuit potential and potentiodynamic detection measurements have been performed. Furthermore, to establish which complexes are adsorbed on the electrode surface during the plating process, in- situ Raman spectroscopy was performed. Electrochemical and spectroscopic analyses reveal that EDTA is the dominant complexing agent, while citric acid is mainly a buffering agent

Use of a geometry optimized fiber-optic SERS sensor in trace detection

    No full text
A novel SERS (surface-enhanced Raman scattering) sensor has been recently developed; its peculiar geometry is able to increase considerably both the SERS active surface and the number of internal reflections at the interface between silica and silver, thus allowing an increase of the signal intensity. The aim of this work is to demonstrate that this sensor could be efficiently used to detect some molecules such as illegally used veterinary medicine (crystal violet and malachite green) below the ppb detection limit. The advantages of this sensor with respect to other detection techniques are not only the higher sensitivity, but also the fast response and the possibility of coupling with a portable Raman spectrometer for ‘‘on-field’’ measurements. The ability of the sensor to work under real environmental conditions in the presence of many cationic and anionic species has been tested both in solutions containing sodium and chlorine ions and in water coming from the aqueduct of Milan and from the (normally polluted) river Serio

Eros e Cronos na obra de Augusto Abelaira

The primary objective of this essay is to reflect on the connection between public and private scopes represented in Augusto Abelaira’s (1926-2003) work. Abelaira’s literary production was published along the second half of 20th century and consists mostly of novels in which dialogue is a privileged device, rather than action, in the creation and definition of its characters, emphasizing their debates and ideas as well as their relations. The author conceives his work as a «one book», of which every novel only stands for a part: in this framework, the focus on both erotic life and historical condition of their characters is always an essential part of the diegetic universe. Both individual and collective levels constitute a scenario in which the subject tries to react to the paralysis of Portuguese political, social, and cultural life during Salazar’s dictatorship: a reality that they perceive as stagnating and made of bolor (mould), quoting the title of one of the most iconic novels by Abelaira. The characters’ disenchantment about love and the possibility of reaching their fulfilment mirrors their incapability in understanding the reality that surrounds them and in transforming it. This situation generates a permanent tension between an ideal of plenitude and contingence, a conflict without any solution. The erotic universe and the utopic ideals are, then, the starting point for a reflection on the possibilities and value of human action in a reality that denies the subject a concretization of their ambitions

Influence of wet surface pretreatment on the electroless metallization of stereolithography resins

    No full text
In the present paper, the influence of different wet pretreatment routes on the final quality of electroless layers plated on stereolithography resins is investigated. Two pretreatment methods, acidic and alkaline, are employed. Acidic etching is unable to provide acceptable results in terms of surface quality. On the contrary, alkaline etching guarantees a bright copper surface coupled with a level of adhesion high enough to pass a standard peel test. ATR FT-IR is employed to investigate the chemical reactions occurring on the resins during the pretreatment, evidencing a major role of the ester hydrolysis process on the depolymerization of the material and on the formation of new functional groups on the surface. Resin hydrolysis is linked with increase in surface roughness and wettability, parameters that strongly determine final metal adhesion. The combination of ATR FT-IT, contact angle and roughness measurement constitutes a possible combined methodology to follow the evolution of surface pretreatment on different stereolithography resins
