To look back over the history of translation is always a very complicated question, especially if a professional status of the translator all along the past times has still to be focused and investigated and not been found yet. Starting from the beginning of the 20th century and the involvement of intellectuals as writers, essayists as well as translators in the relevant city of Florence, three main scholars and protagonists of the cultural debate during the Italian fascist regime, such as Renato Poggioli, a specialist of Russian language and culture, Leone Traverso, a classical and German philologist and Carlo Bo, a huge expert in the Spanish and French linguistic domains, were analyzed to fix their contribution to a better understanding of a still misty word: translation

A Segunda Parte focaliza a obra. The main objective of the present research is to ana1yzethe Sonatina for the Piano of Alceo Bocchino. In order to introduce and to structure the Analysis, the First Part presents biographical and historica1 data of the composer's life, while the Second Part focuses on the piece. The Second Part starts with aspects of Sonata Form and introduces the forms involved in each movement of the Sonatina: Toccata, Invention and Cadenza. It follows with the Analysis of the piece according to the techniques of musical ana1ysis developed by Amold Schoenberg and John White, and theoretical approaches about twentieth-century harmony by Vincent Persichetti. The analytical process leads up to syntheses, where it is possible to identify the compositional language used, the typical compositional elements, and how the composer uses them Furthermore, according to this ana1ytical study, there are suggestions concerning the performance of the piece, pointing to relevant aspects of piano interpretation. The conclusion gathers the most prominent information acquired from the Analysis, from the composer's advices on the performance of this piece and from the complementary interview with the composer and with the bassoonist Noel Devos in Rio de Janeiro. As appendixes, there are the edition of the original manuscript, which was developed with the use of appropriate eletronic software designed for musical editions, and a recording on CD ofthe piece, performed by the author ofthis researchMestradoArtes Musicai

Hybrid Organometallic and Enzymatic Tandem Catalysis for Oxyfunctionalisation Reactions

Unspecific peroxygenases (UPOs) are promising biocatalysts for oxyfunctionalisation reactions, owing to their simplicity of handling, stability and robustness. A limitation of using UPOs on a large scale is their deactivation in the presence of even rather modest concentrations of H2O2, requiring a constant and controlled supply of low amount of H2O2. Herein, we report an organometallic complex [Cp*Ir(pica)NO3] {pica=picolinamidate=κ2-pyridine-2-carboxamide ion (−1)} 1 capable of efficiently regenerating FMNH2 from FMN (TOF=350 h−1, 298 K), driven by NaHCOO; FMNH2, in turn, spontaneously reacts with O2 leading to H2O2. After having studied the compatibility of 1 with the UPO from Agrocybe aegerita (rAaeUPO PaDa-I) and individuated the best experimental conditions, we applied such a hybrid catalytic tandem in some hydroxylation, epoxidation and sulfoxidation reactions. Best performances were obtained by using a 1/rAaeUPO molar ratio of 50. TONs for the biocatalyst of up to 18933 were obtained for the transformation of ethylbenzene derivatives into (R)-1-phenylethanols (ee>99 %). 1/rAaeUPO was found to oxidise also cis-methyl styrene (TON=13488), leading exclusively (1R,2S)-cis-methyl styrene oxide (ee>99 %), cyclohexane (TON=1634) and thioanisole (TON=1369).</p

COMPOSER-LEGISLATORS IN FASCIST ITALY: DISTINGUISHING THE PERSONAL AND LEGISLATIVE VOICES OF ADRIANO LUALDI

No full text
In addition to a list of Lualdi's written works, appendices include a facing English translation of Alceo Toni, et al., “Travagli spirituali del nostro tempo: un manifesto di musicisti italiani per la tradizione dell’arte romantica dell’800,” La stampa, December 17, 1932, 3.During Italy’s fascist period, the government appointed Adriano Lualdi to the Chamber of Deputies. The once prominent composer, author, and music critic represented the Fascist Union of Musicians in the chamber and had roles in the administration of government-subsidized festivals. Although little is written about the composer-legislator, what is available depicts him as opportunistic and self-serving. Previous scholarship claims that he used his position in the fascist bureaucracy to his own advantage by pushing his aesthetic philosophy through legislation. These claims are substantiated by Lualdi’s private communications and published works which detail his opinions on musical aesthetics. Comparing Lualdi’s political records to his publications shows that his personal opinions on aesthetics did not interfere with legislation to the degree that past scholarship suggests. I argue that previous scholarship conflates Lualdi’s legislative voice with his personal voice, offering a distorted, and therefore incomplete version of Adriano Lualdi as a historical figure
