Biomarkers in Inflammatory Bowel Disease-Associated Spondyloarthritis: State of the Art and Unmet Needs
Inflammatory bowel disease-associated spondyloarthritis is a systemic disease characterized by the chronic inflammation of both the gastrointestinal tract and the musculoskeletal system. Since inflammatory bowel disease-associated spondyloarthritis has been associated with a significant diagnostic delay, which may lead to poor quality of life and progression of joint damage, efforts to discover new reliable and noninvasive diagnostic biomarkers have been made. We reviewed the state of the art of biomarker research in inflammatory bowel disease-associated spondyloarthritis, showing that to date it has been largely unsatisfactory. Only a few of the biomarkers that have been investigated are likely to enter the clinical practice upon further validation in independent cohorts. The research of new and innovative biomarkers for inflammatory bowel disease-associated spondyloarthritis is warranted
BIOLOGIC THERAPY IN INFLAMMATORY AND IMMUNOMEDIATED ARTHRITIS: SAFETY PROFILE
The increasing insights into the pathogenetic mechanisms of inflammatory autoimmune arthritis and the development of innovative systems of industrial production have led to discover molecules which are targeted at molecules involved in the mechanisms of the immune system and that have been introduced in clinical practice to provide an alternative to the existing treatment methods of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs and other immunosuppressive medications. For this reason, such drugs are currently known as "biological drugs" and include molecules that induce the immunosuppression acting on several immune pathways. However, though the biological drugs have been employed from more than a decade, there still exist some drawbacks of their use, including the inconvenience of intravenous administration, the high costs, and adverse events associated with them. This review provides an update on the correct use and current therapeutic indications of such drugs, including some of the new biologic therapies that will be soon available for the clinical use, focusing on these biological drugs: tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors (adalimumab, certolizumab-pegol, etanercept, golimumab and infliximab); the T cell co-stimulation inhibitor, abatacept; the anti-CD20 receptor monoclonal B cell agent, rituximab; the IL-6 receptor-blocking monoclonal antibody, tocilizumab; the IL-1-inhibitor, anakinra; the IL-17-pathway inhibitors (ustekinumab, secukinumab, brodalumab)

Potential Toxicity of Natural Fibrous Zeolites: In Vitro Study Using Jurkat and HT22 Cell Lines
An emerging problem for human health is the exposure to non-regulated mineral fibers with an asbestos-like crystal habit, particularly fibrous zeolites. This study aimed to determine if and how selected fibrous zeolites (erionite, mesolite, and thomsonite) induce toxicity effects on two different in vitro cellular models, the adherent murine hippocampal (HT22) and human immortalized T lymphocyte (Jurkat) cell lines. Before proceeding with the cellular tests, the three zeolite samples were investigated using scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction techniques. The cells were treated with 0.1 µM and 1 µM of fibrous erionite, mesolite, and thomsonite for 12, 24, and 48 h. Results showed a cytotoxic effect of erionite in both cellular models and revealed different toxic behaviors of the mesolite and thomsonite fibers, suggesting other potential mechanisms of action. The outcome of this study would be a first step for further research on fine biochemical interactions of zeolite fibers with cells and future in vivo investigations

Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part A. 2020;84:119-131.In this paper, I argue for a distinction between two scales of coordination in scientific inquiry, through which I reassess Georg Simon Ohm's work on conductivity and resistance. Firstly, I propose to distinguish between measurement coordination, which refers to the specific problem of how to justify the attribution of values to a quantity by using a certain measurement procedure, and general coordination, which refers to the broader issue of justifying the representation of an empirical regularity by means of abstract mathematical tools. Secondly, I argue that the development of Ohm's measurement practice between the first and the second experimental phase of his work involved the change of the measurement coordination on which he relied to express his empirical results. By showing how Ohm relied on different calibration assumptions and practices across the two phases, I demonstrate that the concurrent change of both Ohm's experimental apparatus and the variable that Ohm measured should be viewed based on the different form of measurement coordination. Finally, I argue that Ohm's assumption that tension is equally distributed in the circuit is best understood as part of the general coordination between Ohm's law and the empirical regularity that it expresses, rather than measurement coordination
