This is a letter from Dr. Yang Fu-lu, president of the Beijing Institute of Physical Education (now Beijing Sport University) to Dr. Frank S. Falcone, president of Springfield College, dated July 10, 1989. The letter is concerning the events in Tienanmen Square in Beijing in the summer of 1989.Beijing Sport University was organized and established as the Central Institute of Physical Education (sport) in 1953 with the help of Professor Xu Yingchao, Springfield College graduate of the class 1938. The name of the university changed to Peking (Beijing) Institute of Physical Culture (physical education) in 1956 and renamed Beijing Sports University in 1993. The first agreement signed by Springfield College and the Beijing Sport University was on September 25, 1981, which provided pathways for collaboration and exchange of faculty and students

Yi-Chieh Yang Flute Recital Program Notes
This report is the program notes of Yi-Chieh Yang\ue2s Flute Recital on May 13, 2021. The repertoire of the recital includes several works of different styles: the Classical music style, the Romantic music style, and the Neoclassical music style. All the works are important flute repertoire.
This recital program includes: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\ue2s Flute Quartet in D Major, K. 285, Jules Demersseman\ue2s Italian Concerto in F Major, Op. 82, and Sergei Prokofiev\ue2s Sonata in D Major for Flute and Piano, Op. 94. The program notes, which show the musical styles of the composers and the background of these masterpieces, were written to enhance the performer\ue2s appreciation of the compositions
IFI and ISI premitigation for block-code-modulated noncoherent UWB impulse radio: A code optimization approach
Codeword matching and signal aggregation (CMSA) is a recently proposed low-complexity noncoherent receiver for block code modulated UWB Impulse Radio (UWB-IR) systems. As the frame/symbol duration is shortened to boost data rate, inter-frame interference (IFI) or inter-symbol interference (ISI) occurs and degrades detection performance of CMSA. In this paper, an effective IFI/ISI pre-mitigation scheme is proposed for CMSA by means of a code optimization approach. By employing a tailored interference model that highlights the codeword properties, the system performance in the presence of moderate IFI/ISI is evaluated and an average collected channel gain (CCG) is introduced as the metric for code optimization. With the primary focus on binary modulation, two IFI/ISI-robust code properties are generalized as Shifted-Orthogonality and Shifted-Repetition. Based on these properties, the optimal code is constructed. It is observed that, when the optimal code occurs, the leaked signal energy or the interference can be partially used to enhance the detection performance of CMSA in the presence of IFI/ISI. Unlike most of the existing IFI/ISI mitigation schemes for noncoherent UWB-IR that focus mainly on signal processing after the nonlinear detector, the optimized code is exploited to aggregate leaked signal energy along with the linear pre-detection operation already involved in CMSA receiver. Both analysis and simulation show that a distinct performance improvement is achieved

OCCURRENCE. — Southern China; Maokao Formation, Permian (?Murgabian) (Yang & Lu 1980). Lakaftari: central Iran, Jamal Formation, Middle Permian. DESCRIPTION Micrometric formula: 8-11.5/5-7//16-22. Reticulated colonies with straight branches, joined by relatively thin dissepiments. Autozooecia arranged in 3-4 alternating rows on branches. Apertures circular, spaced 5-6 per length of a fenestrule; 1-2 small nodes developed in peristome. Shape of fenestrules varying from narrow oval to rectangular and triangular. Keels absent. Nodes small, rounded, hyaline, arranged in regular rows between apertures on the obverse colony surface, widely spaced. Internal granular skeleton moderately thick, well developed, continuous with nodes, rods, peristome and across dissepiments. Outer lamellar skeleton moderately thick, containing abundant rods 5-6 µm in diameter. Ovicells occurring occasionally, shaped as spherical chambers attached at distal part of apertures, reaching 0.14 mm in diameter. INTERIOR DESCRIPTION Autozooecia rhombic to hexagonal in the middle tangential section; relatively short in longitudinal section, with well developed vestibule; aperture positioned at distal to distal-abaxial end of chamber. Hemisepta absent. Terminal diaphragms occurring. COMPARISON Polypora sinokoninckiana is similar to P. timorensis Bassler, 1929 from the Permian of Indonesia. Equalisation and performance of diffusive molecular communication systems with binary molecular-shift keying modulation
This study investigates the equalisation techniques for the diffusive molecular communication (DMC) systems with binary molecular-shift keying (BMoSK) modulation, referred to as the BMoSK-DMC systems, in order to mitigate the effect of inter-symbol interference (ISI). The authors first show that in terms of receiving equalisation, a BMoSK-DMC system is in fact equivalent to a conventional binary phase-shift keying modulated radio communication system encountering ISI. Hence, a wealth of equalisation techniques developed with the conventional radio communication systems may be introduced for equalisation of BMoSK-DMC signals. However, considering the limited capability of molecular transceivers on computation and storage, in this study, the authors investigate only the linear equalisers (LEQ) in the principles of matched-filtering, zero-forcing (ZF) and minimum mean-square error (MMSE). They characterise the effects of the different aspects related to DMC signalling and propagation on the achievable performance of the BMoSK-DMC systems with these LEQ. Their studies and performance results demonstrate that both the ZF- and MMSE-LEQ are capable of efficiently suppressing the ISI and attaining promising performance, while still have low-complexity to facilitate implementation
Error performance analysis of diffusive molecular communication systems with on-off keying modulation
In this paper, we analyze the bit error rate (BER) of the diffusive molecular communication (DMC) systems employing on-off keying (OOK) modulation. We also analyze the BER of the OOK-modulated DMC systems with inter-symbol interference cancellation (ISIC). Our main motivation is to introduce alternative tools for analyzing and efficiently computing the BER of the DMC systems without or with ISIC. Specifically, for the OOK-modulated DMC systems without ISIC, we first derive an exact BER expression based on the Poisson modeling of DMC systems. Then, the Gaussian- and Gamma-approximation approaches are introduced to approximate the discrete Poisson distribution, and based on the approximation approaches, the corresponding BER expressions are derived. Furthermore, in order to reduce the computation complexity imposed by long ISI, we propose the Monte-Carlo, simplified Poisson, simplified Gaussian and the simplified Gamma approaches for BER computation. In the context of the OOK-modulated DMC systems with ISIC, we consider both the Poisson and Gaussian-approximation approaches for BER analysis. Again, exact and approximate BER expressions are derived under the Poisson, Gaussian-approximation, simplified Poisson and simplified Gaussian approaches. Finally, the considered approaches are compared and validated by a range of performance results obtained from evaluation of the derived expressions or by simulations. Our studies show that the alternative approaches are in generaleffective for providing near-accurate BER estimation
