    Abstract: Papers of the former University of Alabama dean of menScope and Content Note: The collection contains the papers of Louis D. Corson, Dean of Men at The University of Alabama from August 1955 through December 1957. Included are correspondence, documents, newspaper and magazine articles, as well as photographs concerning the on-campus riots on February 3-6, 1956. There are also copies of articles and magazines dealing with the state of college and university education and integration across the country.The collection also includes a variety of University event programs and publications.Biographical/Historical Note: Louis D. Corson, son of Ada M. Strickland (Mrs. Oscar I.), was born on July 30, 1915 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1937 (he wrote and composed the school's alma mater in 1936) with a BA in history. He also received a masters degree in history from West Virginia University; he received his doctorate in higher education from Stanford University.He served as a commissioned officer in the Army Air Corps during World War II and with the Air Force in the Korean War. He married Joan Adelaide Stifel of Wheeling in 1947; the couple had two daughters. COrson died in September 1982
