Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-COV-2), posed a global health threat. The Covid-19 crisis was accompanied with health and socio-economic consequences in societies. The Covid-19 pandemic found the world unprepared to face the unexpected consequences it brought directly and indirectly into every human life. Difficulties were felt especially in poor countries, where their populations due to the low standard of living faced additional difficulties in managing everyday life in fight with the virus. Albania reported the first Covid-19 case in March 2020 and since then, the daily cumulative incidence has been varying over the months. An evaluation of the economic and health impact of the disease helps to identify possible strategies for reducing the cost of disease with the appropriate preventive action or treatment strategies. A mixed methodology research was developed in order to evaluate the impact of Covid-19 in the economic and health status of the Albanian population. Literature review of similar researches in national and international level was selected as the secondary source of data collection. In addition, a cross- sectional survey was designed and conducted to quantify the in-depth Covid-19 is urging a long-term crisis in different aspects of the Albanian society’s development. This pandemic exposed the crucial need for early interventions and sustainable policies in major momentums of the disease: prevention, treatment, recovery/reintegration in society. On the other hand, the world economy is in a stagnation point conditioned by government policies oriented by experts in the field to suspend a series of commercial and productive activities, which have brought as never before the consequences assessed deeper than the Great Depression of the period 29`-33` such as: unemployment, business bankruptcy, declining domestic production (GDP) and trade exchanges, reduced investment, difficulties in repaying debts, etc

The purpose of this study is to show the spread of using Internet Banking by businesses in Vlora region. Internet Banking is relatively a new service in Albanian market. It has started in 2002, firstly offered by Intesa San Paolo Bank Albania, but only nearly a decade ago started to be offered by the main banks of our bank system. In 10 years of activity, the main focus of Internet Banking and the first users was businesses, not individuals. Only recently it is concentrated to individuals too. This is because of the spread of Internet by cellular companies to individuals during the last decade. To better understand the actual situation, it is formulated a questionnaire which is spread to administrators/owners of 30 businesses located in Vlora region, with legal form of limited liability company, contacted through phone and e-mail during the period November 2018-February 2019. After data processing, results that all businesses included are registered at least at one account of Internet Banking services, regardless the level of use. This is the first quantitative result of bank campaigns that operates in Albanian market, motivated by the competition with each other and technological development, for Albanian business to access deeply in Internet Banking. Businesses included in the study use mostly Internet Banking for transactions that are considered by most of them as safest and simplest. Whereas transactions such as international transfers, tax payments, salaries and contributes of employees continue to execute by most of businesses only at bank counters. Businesses are facing difficulties using Internet Banking, such as not understanding the financial concepts by users which haven't an economic background. The main profit valuated by businesses it is not cost reduce as might be expected. Businesses see as advantage the time they earn by avoiding the crowd and especially the possibility of doing the transactions out of official timetable of banks. We are far away of using Internet Banking in all transactions of businesses during their day to day activities because of restrictions of the offers of this service (banks) and restrictions of their consumers (businesses), even thought in base of businesses responses of this study, the ice is broken. Businesses in Vlora region can serve as representative sample for all Albanian businesses

SME-s role in the economic development and economic structure is changing drastically, as it is gaining new dimensions the role they have as social agents. This becomes particularly present in the paradigm shift of the EU funding schema and priorities, for member and candidate states, indicating that from catalysts of development they are now considered as important and active agents of Innovation by their R&D potential. The article provides a comprehensive literature review on different aspects of R&D processes in SMEs under the support of the funding programs of European Union collected from the reputed publications. The purpose is to provide an outline on the structure and dynamics of R&D in SMEs to highlight its role in the performance of these businesses in particular and in national and regional economies at the macro level. This paper aims to contribute to current discussions within the field of innovation by further exploring how EU R&D funding policies work in practice

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
