“Tem que estudar para ser gente”: trajetórias de professores de universidades federais sem histórico familiar de longevidade escolar
Get PDFAs mudanças sociais em curso durante a segunda metade do século XX, no Brasil, alteraram o valor social do diploma de ensino superior para diferentes grupos. Diante desse contexto, esta tese foi elaborada com objetivo investigar e analisar as trajetórias sociais (origens familiares, percursos escolares, acadêmicos e profissionais) de professores universitários sem histórico familiar de longevidade escolar. A tese principal dessa pesquisa é que as mudanças sociais ocorridas no Brasil atingiram os diferentes grupos de forma seletiva e heterogênea, pressionando-os a alterarem suas tradições de reprodução social, ao incorporarem a necessidade de avanço na escolarização para as gerações mais novas. Para analisar essa tendência, realizamos uma pesquisa com métodos mistos, a partir de questionários e entrevistas semiestruturadas, que evidenciou como a atualização dos repertórios de reprodução social aconteceu com os professores das universidades federais com maior número de docentes em cada uma das cinco regiões brasileiras – Universidade Federal do Pará, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Universidade de Brasília, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro e Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. De um lado, a pesquisa quantitativa revelou haver uma diferenciação objetiva nos níveis de escolaridade entre as gerações mais velhas, os avôs e os pais, e as gerações mais novas, os professores, evidenciando a necessidade dos mais novos em avançar na escolarização. De outro lado, a pesquisa qualitativa demonstrou como as pressões por avanço na escolarização, para as gerações mais novas, foram postas em prática por diferentes caminhos, das famílias às trajetórias acadêmicas dos docentes universitários. Os dados permitiram a construção e análise de trajetórias sociais que tratam das origens familiares, percursos escolares e acadêmicos dos professores pesquisados, os quais, para além de oferecerem uma caracterização desses itinerários, possibilitaram uma compreensão multidimensional para o destino social de professores universitários. As conclusões dessa tese indicam que as variações encontradas nas trajetórias sociais dos professores pesquisados têm conexão com a maneira diferencial que as pressões sociais atingiram os entrevistados.The social changes taking place during the second half of the 20th century in Brazil altered the social value of the higher education diploma for different groups. Given this context, this thesis was designed to investigate and analyze the social trajectories (family origins, school, academic and professional paths) of university professors without a family history of school longevity. The main thesis of this research is that the social changes that took place in Brazil affected the different groups in a selective and heterogeneous way, pressing them to change their traditions of social reproduction, by incorporating the need to advance in schooling for the younger generations. To analyze this trend, we carried out a research with mixed methods, based on questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, which showed how the updating of the repertoires of social reproduction happened with the professors of the federal universities with the largest number of professors in each of the five Brazilian regions - Federal University of Pará, Federal University of Pernambuco, University of Brasília, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. On the one hand, the quantitative research revealed that there was an objective differentiation in the levels of schooling between the older generations, the grandparents and parents, and the younger generations, the teachers, evidencing the need for the younger ones to advance in schooling. On the other hand, qualitative research has shown how the pressures to advance in schooling, for the younger generations, were put into practice by different paths, from families to the academic trajectories of university professors. The data allowed the construction and analysis of social trajectories that deal with the family origins, school and academic paths of the teachers surveyed, which, in addition to offering a characterization of these itineraries, enabled a multidimensional understanding of the social destiny of university professors. The conclusions of this thesis indicate that the variations found in the social trajectories of the teachers surveyed relate to the differential way in which social pressures affected the interviewees
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
