    Secure quantum key expansion between two parties sharing a key

    We investigate a quantum key expansion scheme by which the length of the key shared by two parties can be securely increased. The scheme is based on a previously proposed quantum key distribution scheme that does not require public announcement of bases.     Results from the Scottish national HAI prevalence survey

    A national point prevalence survey was undertaken over the period of one calendar year in Scotland from October 2005 to October 2006. The prevalence of healthcare-associated infection (HAI) was 9.5% in acute hospitals and 7.3% in non-acute hospitals. The highest prevalence of HAI in acute hospital inpatients was found in the following specialties: care of the elderly (11.9%), surgery (11.2%), medicine (9.6%) and orthopaedics (9.2%). The lowest prevalence was found in obstetrics (0.9%). The most common types of HAI in acute hospital inpatients were: urinary tract infections (17.9% of all HAI), surgical site infections (15.9%) and gastrointestinal infections (15.4%). In non-acute hospitals one in ten inpatients in two specialties (combined) medicine (11.4%) and care of the elderly (7.8%) was found to have HAI, and one in 20 inpatients in psychiatry (5.0%) had HAI. In non-acute hospital patients, urinary tract infections were frequent (28.1% of all HAI) and similarly skin and soft tissue infection (26.8% of all HAI). When combined, these two HAI types affected 4% of all the inpatients in non-acute hospitals. This is the first survey of its kind in Scotland and describes the burden of HAI at a national level

    The dark side of employee-generative AI collaboration in the workplace: an investigation on work alienation and employee expediency

    Generative AI (GenAI) has emerged as a powerful tool in the modern workplace, delivering significant benefits to both employees and organizations. As its adoption gains momentum, understanding the potential risks associated with employee-GenAI collaboration becomes increasingly important. While much of the existing research emphasizes the challenges GenAI presents to employees as individuals, this study shifts the focus to explore broader organizational risks, particularly unethical workplace behaviors. Drawing on human-AI collaboration research and the job demands-resources model, we develop and empirically test a novel model to explain how and when employee-GenAI collaboration may lead to employees’ unethical behavioral outcomes in daily organizational contexts. Using an experience sampling approach with longitudinal data from 229 service industry employees, encompassing 1050 matched daily observations, our findings reveal that employee-GenAI collaboration increases work alienation—a sense of disconnection from work—which, in turn, drives employee expediency that compromises work standards. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this effect is pronounced under high digital job demands. By highlighting this unintended consequence, our study contributes to theoretical advancements in understanding the darker side of employee-GenAI collaboration and provides practical insights to help organizations harness the benefits of GenAI while mitigating its potential ethical pitfalls.</p

    Green marketing as showcase of sustainable coffee shop business

     Validating the potentiality of adopting the concept of sustainable development in the field of food and beverage is the objective of the thesis. By taking advantage of the validated data, the author is able to build a green marketing plan as a showcase of the sustainable coffee shop. Additionally, the thesis aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and conservation through reducing negative impacts on the environment in business operations. The author concentrated on gathering data relating to sustainabile development and green marketing including the framework of sustainable development, the beneficial impacts of the concept, green marketing definition, and the advantage of applying green marketing into a business. The research section of the thesis is developed according to the theoretical framework. The author adopts semi-structured in-depth interview, and a combination of non-participant and participant observation to gather the research date. The interview was conducted with the co-founder of the L restaurant with a list of questions. The interview was divided into four phases. The interview focuses on exploring the feasibility of the sustainable business model in the city of Ho Chi Minh and society's sense of a new concept. The observation investigates how the G restaurant presents their sustainable development through the marketing effort. The observation research is implemented by following the guidelines, which weres created based on the marketing mix 4ps. A complete green marketing plan for a new sustainable coffee shop is the outcome of the thesis by applying the theory framework and the research results. This thesis allows the author to explore and expand the knowledge of a sustainable framework and sustainable development in the restaurant industry. Furthermore, the author is able to utilize the concept to reduce environmental impacts and attract more customers with the same concerns. The study can also function as a guideline for other restaurants in operating sustainably by providing them with marketing actions that lead to a more efficient business operation
