Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

L’aumento dell’aspettativa di vita ha portato ad avere un elevato numero di pazienti affetti da più patologie croniche che necessitano di essere trattate con un crescente numero di farmaci. La gestione delle forme solide orali (Solid Oral Dosage Forms, SODFs) di questi pazienti è resa ancora più complessa nel caso di disturbi della deglutizione che rendono molti dei farmaci in commercio non idonei alla somministrazione con conseguente necessità di manipolazione e possibili rischi sia per il paziente che per il caregiver. In questo contesto si inserisce un supporto decisionale web-based, realizzato per aiutare il prescrittore e il caregiver nella corretta gestione della terapia orale, come previsto dalla Raccomandazione Ministeriale n. 19 (RM19). La web-application si basa su di un database di circa 9.000 farmaci, a cui sono associate altrettante Schede Informative che possono contenere simboli di rischio, formulazioni galeniche e metodi di manipolazione, consultabili online. Obiettivo del presente studio consiste nel misurare la conoscenza degli utenti iscritti alla web-application della RM19 e dei rischi correlati alle manipolazioni oltre che raccogliere suggerimenti per migliorare il servizio offerto dalla web-application. Materiali e metodi. A tutti gli utenti iscritti è stato inviato per email un questionario compilabile on-line, del tutto anonimo, strutturato su un totale di 11 domande obbligatorie. Risultati. Dai 100 questionari esaminati è emerso che solo 45 utenti (45%) conoscono la RM19 e che solo 26 (26%) dispongono di una procedura per standardizzare la manipolazione delle SODFs nella struttura in cui lavorano. Le manipolazioni inoltre vengono prevalentemente eseguite da un infermiere in reparto spesso in assenza di una valutazione preventiva dei rischi. Conclusioni. La web-application è risultata essere uno strumento utile per ottemperare alla stessa Raccomandazione, da diffondere maggiormente presso i professionisti sanitari e potenzialmente da integrare con i sistemi prescrittivi informatizzati dei medici di medicina generale e con le cartelle cliniche informatizzate delle strutture ospedaliere e delle cure domiciliari

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Tablet splitting in elderly patients with dementia: The case of quetiapine
Get PDFQuetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic approved for treating schizophrenia, bipolar depression, and mania but is frequently used in an off-label manner to control the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia in elderly patients with dementia. Due to the need to personalize doses for elderly patients with dementia, quetiapine tablet manipulation is widespread in hospital settings, long-term care facilities, and patient homes. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of the different splitting techniques on quetiapine fumarate tablets by analysing the obtained sub-divided tablets and to discuss compliance with the European Pharmacopoeia limits on whole and split tablets. Quetiapine fumarate tablets of two dose strengths were taken at random (in a number able to assure a power of 0.8 during statistical comparison) and were split with a kitchen knife or tablet cutter. The weight and the drug content were determined for each half tablet. The obtained data were compared to the European Pharmacopoeia limits. The differences between the different splitting techniques were statistically tested. Data showed that split tablets, independently of the dose strength and the technique employed, were not compliant with the European Pharmacopoeia specifications for both entire and subdivided tablets in terms of weight and content uniformity. Thus, such a common practice could have potential effects on treatment efficacy and toxicity, especially when also considering the fragility of the elderly target population in which polypharmacotherapy is very common. These results indicate a compelling need for flexible quetiapine formulations that can assure more accurate dose personalization

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
