Leading chiral logarithms of KS→γγ and KS→γl+l− at two loops

    No full text
AbstractWe obtain the leading divergences at two-loop order for the decays KS→γγ and KS→γl+l− using only one-loop diagrams. We then find the double chiral logarithmic corrections to the decay branching ratio of KS→γγ and to the decay rate for KS→γl+l−. It turns out that these effects are numerically small and therefore make a very small enhancement on the branching ratio and decay rate. We also derive an expression for the corrections of type logμ×LEC. Numerical analysis done for the process KS→γγ shows that these single logarithmic effects can be sizable but come with opposite signs with respect to the double chiral logarithms

The pbar p -> Ks Ks -> 4pi+/- cross section was measured at incident antiproton momenta between 0.6 and 1.9 GeV/c using the CERN Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR). This investigation was part of a systematic study of in-flight antiproton-proton annihilations into two-neutral-meson final states in a search for hadronic resonances. A coarse scan of the pbar p -> Ks Ks cross section as a function of center-of-mass energy between 1.964 and 2.395 GeV/c^2 and a fine scan of the region surrounding the Xi(2220) are presented. Upper limits on the product branching ratio BR(Xi -> pbar p)BR(Xi -> Ks Ks) are determined for a wide range of mass and width assumptions based on the non-observation of the Xi(2220). A rise in the pbar p -> Ks Ks cross section is observed near 2.15 GeV/c^2, which is consistent with the f2(2150) resonance. The pbar p -> Ks Ks -> 4pi+/- cross section was measured at incident antiproton momenta between 0.6 and 1.9 GeV/c using the CERN Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR). Particle collision statistics in turbulent flows with kinematic simulation

    No full text
Colliding droplets or particles in turbulent flows are important in applications ranging from rain formation in clouds to aerosol production in process engineering. To reduce the computational costs when simulating such flows, kinematic simulation (KS) is frequently applied as a cheap surrogate for direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the turbulent flow field. In this work, we provide for the first time a systematic validation of the particle collision statistics that result from KS. We show that while the particle collision frequencies for particles with different Stokes numbers are in good agreement with DNS reference data, a more detailed inspection of the flow field and particle concentration characteristics reveals significant differences between KS and DNS

Education to honesty should be based on giving a good example by Catholics, building organizations and associations, which in practice would take joint responsibility for public life. The church was and is a teacher of society. The article aims to show some aspects of the Church’s responsibility in the education of the society to honesty on the example of Blessed Fr. Bronisław Markiewicz. Fr. Markiewicz knew that the witness of Christian life has enormous power and is able to rebuild whole societies. The author shows in his article that religion – according to Fr. B. Markiewicz - is a value that fosters integrity, motivates and enriches the human personality, leading the way and directions for universal and fundamental values , including patriotic and civic ones.

MasteroppgaveJUS399MAJUR-2MAJU

Uncommon diagnosis of Kaposi’s Sarcoma in a HIV-negative adult patient

Kaposi’s Sarcoma (KS) has been described as a multifocal malignant neoplasm, originating from vascular endothelial cells. Four clinical types has been recognized: classic, endemic, iatrogenic and epidemic1. Classic KS has been reported mainly in patients from Mediterranean area and it typically manifests as cutaneous lesions involving the lower extremities and trunk. Classic KS affects only rarely the head and neck region and few cases have been reported as primary oral classic KS. Oral lesions are localized typically in the hard palate (95%), and more rarely they affects the gingiva and the oro-pharynx. Early oral early lesions typically appear as flat pigmented macules of purple or bluish color. After that, the lesions become nodular exophytic and dark and, in certain cases, may ulcerate, resulting in pain and burning2. A 61-year-old man patient was sent at the Sector of Oral Medicine (University of Palermo) for a red oral lesion. The patient reported that the lesion was not healed after tooth extraction (4.3) and 14-day antibiotic therapy. On clinical examination, a flat purple-red macula was observed on the lower labial mucosa with a nodular exophytic lesion of hardened consistency on the midline. Other lesions were not observed in the oral cavity. Two incisional biopsies were performed. For both specimens, the results indicated a proliferation of bizarre shaped vessels, with strands of spindle cells and extravased red blood cells. HHV8 immuno-histochemistry showed a nuclear staining of variable intensity. The patient was HBV and HCV, HIV-1, HIV-2 negative. The patient was then sent to a dermatologist, who described a 0.6 x 0.4 cm red lesion on the plantar surface. The lesion was biopsied, confirming the diagnosis of KS. The patient was admitted to a specialized service for clinical oncology, and is currently under follow-up. In conclusion, clinicians should consider KS as a possibility during the diagnostic work-up of red/bluish oral lesions, especially in the Mediterranean area. Since, albeit very rarely, KS can involve the oral mucosa, when clinicians diagnose classic KS, it is essential to perform a complete dermatological examination, a PET imaging and a gastroscopic examination to rule out the location of the disease in other body regions

Time-varying characteristics of saturated hydraulic conductivity in grassed swales based on the ensemble Kalman filter algorithm: A case study of two long-running swales in Netherlands

    No full text
Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) of the filler layer in grassed swales are varying in the changing environment. In most of the hydrological models, Ks is assumed as constant or decrease with a clogging factor. However, the Ks measured on site cannot be the input of the hydrological model directly. Therefore, in this study, an Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) based approach was carried out to estimate the Ks of the whole systems in two monitored grassed swales at Enschede and Utrecht, the Netherlands. The relationship between Ks and possible influencing factors (antecedent dry period, temperature, rainfall, rainfall duration, total rainfall and seasonal factors) were studied and a Multivariate nonlinear function was established to optimize the hydrological model. The results revealed that the EnKF method was satisfying in the Ks estimation, which showed a notable decrease after long-term operation, but revealed a recovery in summer and winter. After the addition of Multivariate nonlinear function of the Ks into hydrological model, 63.8% of the predicted results were optimized among the validation events, and compared with constant Ks. A sensitivity analysis revealed that the effect of each influencing factors on the Ks varies depending on the type of grassed swale. However, these findings require further investigation and data support.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Hydraulic Structures and Flood RiskUrban Desig
