Most of the population does not maintain a satisfactory oral hygiene routine, flossing daily. The aim of this study was to investigate the reasons that lead to resistance and non-adherence to floss by the general population. The methodology used was the presentation of an article in the form of a literature narrative review on the use of dental floss by lifting the BIREME public domain databases, MEDLINE, LILACS, and Google Scholar, besides SciELO virtual library. The self-care with oral hygiene are important preventive measures for caries, gingivitis and periodontal disease. Dental floss is an excellent tool in the removal of biofilm on the proximal surfaces, inaccessible to the brush. We analyzed 5 articles and it was observed that various reasons lead patients not to use floss daily: socioeconomic and cultural conditions unfavorable; lack of awareness of its importance; lack of technical understanding; lack of knowledge, prescription and proper education by the dentists; absence of habit; difficulties in motor coordination; absence of habit; hurry and forgetting .Studies have shown that adherence to dental floss, as a daily habit of oral hygiene is very low in the general population. Even in more advantaged populations or groups of socio-economic and cultural point of view, it is not very frequen

Conclui-se que o conhecimento desta anomalia, bem como de suas características clínicas, são de suma importância para a realização de um diagnóstico correto, possibilitando assim, uma abordagem terapêutica adequadaNatal and neonatal teeth are the ones that erupt in intrauterine period or within thirty days after birth based on the most accepted classification of Massler and Savara. The aim of this study was to present a narrative review of the literature on natal and neonatal teeth, highlighting the importance of knowing this eruption anomaly by dentists and other members of the health team, addressing the etiological factors, clinical characteristics and therapeutic behaviors. An active information search was carried out in the databases of the national Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health (NCBI/PUBMED), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Cochrane Library and Google scholar. The sixteen articles included in the final review showed that the onset of the dental eruption usually occurs around the sixth month of life. However, there are children who are born with teeth present in the oral cavity, or that erupt within 30 days after birth, being called natal and neonatal teeth respectively, being able to be part of the normal deciduous dentition or to be supernumerary teeth. Often these teeth have sharp incisive edges, which can cause ulcerations in the child\u27s tongue and trauma to the mother\u27s nipple, hinder breastfeeding and compromise the health of the infant. It is also common to present mobility, due to poor root development, generating risk of swallowing or aspiration by the child. Therapeutic behavior is defined based on the dentition to which they belong and on the possible complications that these teeth can cause for child and mother. It is concluded that the knowledge of this anomaly, as well as its clinical characteristics, are important in order to make a correct diagnosis, thus enabling an appropriate therapeutic approac

The influence of low functional literacy on caregivers\u27 health has been studied in several countries around the world in order to assess the consequences on children\u27s quality of life. Health in its multifactorial aspect brings the discussion to the field of oral health and research the degree of influence of the understanding and adherence of health practices to the formation of habits that prevent and control oral diseases. In order to evaluate the scientific evidence regarding the association between low FHL parental and influences on children\u27s oral health, we use the PUBMED online page as the main scientific database. Studies that evaluated the oral health outcomes of children and measured FHL of caregivers through validated questionnaires were included. Two independent reviewers selected the studies, extracted data, and analyzed the risk of bias. Six studies were included, half (n = 3) presented a high risk of bias. Most of the studies that evaluated dental caries found an association between the low FHL of parents and higher prevalence / experience of dental caries. Studies diverged on the association between low FHL of the parents and the number of teeth restored, extracted and visits to the dentist. Other disagreements associated with the low FHL of the caregivers occurred between the frequency of tooth brushing of the children, type of toothpaste, self- perception of oral health of the children, negative parental perception of the oral health of the child, oral health expenses and nighttime bottle use. The results of this research evidenced the lack of understanding and the low literacy in health and the need to raise awareness of the caregiver¿s responsibility in the care of the oral health of their dependent

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
