No full textLa tesi ambisce ad individuare una metodologia di approccio al progetto dello spazio pubblico e a formulare dei parametri per l’analisi dell’esistente, utili anche alla formulazione di princìpi progettuali.
La ricerca si propone di approfondire, nell’ambito dello spazio confinato e del contesto urbano, l’esperienza multisensoriale. Questa tematica viene indagata nella Parte I attraverso lo studio della letteratura architettonica e delle attuali ricerche sulla disabilità. La Parte II della tesi propone una chiave di lettura di 25 casi studio, illustrando
progetti virtuosi su territorio nazionale ed internazionale. L'ultima parte della tesi illustra la sperimentazione di un modello di analisi partecipata. La ricerca sul campo è stata condotta su alcuni tratti del Centro storico di Roma, coinvolgendo utenti dalle diverse esigenze. Obiettivo della fase operativa è la sperimentazione di un'indagine nel contesto urbano attraverso il sistema di mappatura partecipata, condotta sulla base di strumenti valutativi della progettazione inclusiva. Nell’indagine dello spazio fisico e della sua accessibilità, la tesi contribuisce all’individuazione di quei parametri utili alla lettura dello spazio fisico e alla mappatura dell’accessibilità del centro storico di Roma. La ricerca sperimenta inoltre una mappatura degli stimoli percettivi con il contributo della disciplina psicologica nel rilevamento di dati oggettivi e soggettivi. Infine, la ricerca pone una base cartografica ed un'interfaccia per lo sviluppo di un'application per sistemi mobili basata sulle mappature e i parametri valutativi elaborati nell'ambito della ricerca
Generation and amplification of a LG01 laser with a thermally-guiding fiber-rod
No full textLaguerre-Gaussian (LG) modes have properties that make them well suited to many applications, particularly laser processing when scaled to high-power. Here we present an approach for generating high-purity LG01 vortex beams in a Nd:YVO4 laser which overcomes the common problems of degenerate handedness and low damage thresholds in previous methods. The obtained modes are scaled in power by application of a novel Thermally-Guiding Fiber-Rod Amplifier (TGFRA).Our approach is based on a novel end-pumping arrangement for efficiently generating the Hermite-Gaussian TEM01 mode in a 1064 nm Nd:YVO4 laser. A fiber-coupled laser diode was spliced to a 50:50 fiber splitter to give two equal outputs. These outputs were bonded to a bulk optic with a small separation for spatially matching the TEM01 mode. An astigmatic mode converter made using two concave mirrors was used to obtain a LG01 mode with controlled handedness.The obtained LG01 mode was propagated through the 300 µm core of a 10 cm long sample of triple-clad Yb-doped silica fiber by utilizing thermal lensing as a waveguiding mechanism. The fiber was pumped using a high-power 915 nm diode laser. This amplifier geometry ensures preservation of the mode while the inheriting good thermal management from a fiber geometry and the large mode area common in rod geometries. The 0.89 W LG01 seed-source was amplified with gain of 2.7 dB. The gain was limited by available pump power and the emission cross-section at 1064 nm. This result provides an avenue to high-power LG01 modes

Structural Studies Of Magnetic Polymerized Fullerene
No full textX-ray and Raman measurements have been performed on samples of polymerized fullerenes, which show weak ferromagnetism. For pressure-polymerized fullerenes, ferromagnetic features are observed in a narrow temperature range very close to the limit of stability of the cages. Raman spectra show that the type of polymerization is probably of less importance.
