CMOS exponential-control variable gain amplifiers
New CMOS exponential-control variable-gain amplifiers (VGAs) are presented. The
control signal can be either current-mode or voltage-mode. Since no multiplier is needed in the
proposed circuits, the proposed VGAs can be very compact. For the case of supply voltages
VDD=|VSS|=1.5V, the power dissipation is only 0.48mW. The gain control range of the proposed
VGA can be 30 dB. The proposed circuits have been fabricated in a 0.5 mm n-well CMOS process.
Experimental results are given to confirm the feasibility of the proposed VGAs, which are expected
to be useful in analogue signal processing applications
Magnetic-field-to-digital converter using PWM and TDC techniques
A high resolution magnetic-field-to-digital converter (MDC) is presented. It is composed
of a magnetic-field-to-pulse width converter (MPC), a cyclic pulse-shrinking time-to-digital
converter (TDC) and a polarity detector. This prototype circuit has been fabricated in a 0.5mm
CMOS DPDM process. With a clock rate of 16.6 kHz, the power consumption is 42.5mW under
5V supply voltage. The equivalent resolution less than 16mT can be achieved within the range of
710mT. After off-line calibration, the remaining offset is 0.017mT and its gain error is smaller
than 0.4%
CASCADABLE CU RRENT-MODE SING LE CCll BIQUADS
A new configuration for the realisation of current-mode
single-CCII-biquad (SCB) filters with high output impedance
is presented. It can synthesise lowpass, bandpass, highpass,
notch, and allpass filtenng functions with a single CCII connected
to five passive RC one-port elements. The quality
factor, Q, and the central frequency, wo. of the proposed
SCBs are insensitive to the current tracking error of the
CCII. These SCBs have the advantages of low passive sensitivities
and independently adjustable wo or Q
The integration of environmental and social sustainability impacts of the biojet fuel product system within the life cycle assessment framework
The Master's programme Industrial Ecology is jointly organised by Leiden University and Delft University of Technology - Biojet fuel is developed as a potentially more sustainable alternative to existing petroleum based jet fuels. To establish the environmental and social sustainability of the biojet fuel product system, the full life cycle of the production should be analyzed. The environmental LCA (ELCA)and social LCA (SLCA) have been developed as two independent tools, but they cannot be used to analyze the same product system as their system boundaries differ. This research studies the possibility of harmonizing the two tools into a single social and environmental LCA (SELCA) methodology in light of its use in the biojet fuel product system. SELCA was developed through an extensive literature review, followed by catering it to the biojet fuel product system based on a survey and a dummy case study. The ELCA is based on unit processes while the SLCA uses organizations as its base. To reconcile these two system elements, the organizations were treated as multifunctional processes that can be allocated to the product system. The DPSIR model was used to ensure that data on interventions and economic flows were equivalent to each other and capable of being causally connected to the product system. The resulting methodology has consistent system boundaries and data for both social and environmental impacts. The majority of existing SLCA characterization methods and indicators are not compatible with SELCA. Indicators must be based on DPSIR pressure level data and be capable of being aggregated for the product system in order to be comparable to ELCA indicators. Many SLCA methodologies are based on statistical data which conceptually cannot be attributed to a particular organization or unit process. The only operational methodology is that of Hunkeler (2006) which uses quantitative labor hour data. As a methodology for assessing the biojet fuel, SELCA has several limits. The existing indicators do not address all issues considered important by academia and the industry. Also, despite that SELCA can in principle include the full biojet product system, in practice it will be limited by the lack of background databases. This results in more cut-off points and smaller system boundaries as shown in the dummy case study. However, with further research and development of characterization methods and databases, SELCA has the potential to fully integrate the environmental and social impact assessments of the biojet fuel product system.Technology, Policy and ManagementEngineering, Systems and ServicesIndustrial Ecolog
Abstract : Competitive intelligence on the web can be used as a method to acquire knowledge assets and to be applied in Front-End of Innovation activities, such as Opportunity Identification and Opportunity Analysis. Nevertheless, there is a gap in the literature about more details of how the competitive intelligence happens on these activities. This Master Thesis presents a proposition of a conceptual framework about competitive intelligence on the web in the context of Front-End of Innovation. Firstly, it was perfomed a bibliometric analysis about competitive intelligence on the web. Based on this bibliometrics, frameworks of competitive intelligence on the web were identified and analyzed. These frameworks were used to define elements and guidelines of the proposed conceptual framework. It was used the EPC language and Aris Express tool to model the framework. The verification of the framework occurred with the experts? evaluation, based on the application of two rounds of the E-Delphi method. After this stage, changes were made and the final version of the framework was presented with seven phases (Identification of requirements for Innovation Intelligence, Identification of information needs, Information collection, Processing, Analysis, Dissemination and Evaluation / Feedback). It is believed that the proposed framework bridges the gap identified on the application of competitive intelligence in the Front-End of Innovation. It is concluded that Competitive intelligence on the web can be used in the innovation process and generate sustainable competitive advantage for an organization. Furthermore, this research can contribute as basis for future implementations of competitive intelligence on the web process on organizations, in order to enhance the collection of knowledge assets, opportunities identification and innovation
