No full textAl dedicar un volumen a los raros uruguayos se evoca una tradición de crítica literaria latinoamericana precisa. Tanto Rubén Darío com Ángel Rama cuestionaban los requisitos que configuraban el canon e integraban en sus antologías autores que habían quedado al margen del mismo. Con estas « nuevas miradas » se quiere seguir problematizando una noción que, en el caso de la literatura uruguaya, ha dejado de ser marginal para transitar hacia el centro ; se trataría entonces de un centro paradójicamente excéntrico. La palabra « raro » se ha convertido en un calificativo habitual en el panorama de la crítica literaria uruguaya actual para referirse a escritores y obras cuyo único vínculo entre sí parece ser el de entrar a formar parte de esa vaga categoría. Porque la contradicción es que « ser raro » responde tanto a dinámicas de exclusión como de inclusión. De ahí que más que aceptar el término o dar por sentado su significado, los autores aquí reunidos se propongan revisarlo desde una perspectiva contemporánea que abarca posiciones teóricas y lugares diferentes (Uruguay, Francia, Estados Unidos, España) para desentrañar su sentido hoy. En los distintos artículos el concepto es repensado, criticado, resignificado y hasta descartado. La particularidad es cuestionarse sobre el valor de lo « raro » en un campo literario uruguayo que parece haber sido particularmente receptivo para dicha noción

No full textEl presente volumen recoge una selección de las ponencias leídas durante el coloquio internacional « Saer : archives, mémoires, critique », que tuvo lugar en la Maison de l’Argentine (Cité Universitaire de Paris) a comienzos de junio de 2010, organizado conjuntamente por la Universidad de Bretagne Sud- Lorient, la Universidad Paris 8-Vincennes- St-Denis y laUniversidad Nacional de La Plata. Los doce artículos aquí publicados constituyen una muestra de las comunicaciones leídas tanto por investigadores jóvenes como consolidados, procedentes de diversas instituciones : estuvieron representadas universidades francesas, argentinas y norteamericanas. De alguna manera, reproduce el intercambio y el diálogo entre generaciones y procedencias académicas que tuvo lugar durante el coloquio, uno de cuyos objetivos principales era, precisamente, alimentar la actualidad de las conversaciones saerinanas en torno a la noción de archivo. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. “A medio borrar” en el origen: de Saer a Saer
Get PDFCuando Juan José Saer se va de Argentina para instalarse en Francia ya tiene publicados varios libros. Sin embargo, ese viaje de 1968 marca un momento crucial que deja sus huellas en el proceso de escritura. En sus manuscritos se trasluce un primer período francés particularmente prolífico en el que el autor tantea una voz desde otra posición. Propongo hablar de una poética del desplazamiento o aun de una poética de la otredad que, más allá de encontrar eco en la temática del viaje y del desdoblamiento, se funda en nuevos gestos de creación. Un ejemplo evidente de ello es el cuento “A medio borrar”, fechado en 1971 pero cuyo primer manuscrito aparece en un cuaderno argentino de 1967. Entre las dos versiones del cuento el viaje se asienta en la escritura mediante algunos mecanismos que analizo sucintamente en este trabajo.Lorsque Juan José Saer quitta l’Argentine pour s’établir en France, plusieurs de ses livres avaient déjà été publiés, une œuvre déjà constituée, mais ce voyage de 1968 inscrivit son empreinte dans son processus d’écriture. Dans ses manuscrits se manifeste une première période française particulièrement prolifique où l’écrivain cherche une voix « autre » à partir d’un point de vue « autre ». Je propose donc de parler d’une poétique du déplacement ou même d’une poétique de l’autreté qui –outre le fait de trouver un écho dans les thème du voyage et du dédoublement–, se fonde sur de nouveaux mécanismes de création. Un exemple manifeste est A medio borrar, une nouvelle datée de 1971, dont le premier manuscrit est publié dans un cahier argentin de 1967. Entre ces deux versions, le voyage interfère dans l’écriture selon certains processus, analysés de façon succincte dans cet article.When Juan José Saer leaves Argentina to arrive in France, he has already published several books. Nonetheless, that journey in 1968 marks a crucial moment that will leave its traces in the process of writing. In his manuscripts, we perceive a first French period; particularly prolific in which the author tries out a voice that comes from a different position. I propose to talk about a poetics of displacement, or even a poetic of the otherness that, beyond finding an echo in the theme of the journey and the fracturing of the self, founds itself on new gestures of creation. An evident example of this is the story “A medio borrar,” dated in 1971 although its first manuscript already appeared in an Argentinean notebook in 1967. In-between the two versions of the story, the journey finds a place in the writing through several mechanisms that I briefly analyze in this work
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
