BAILEY PAPERS UALR Archives & Special Collections 3 document cases. 1927-1948. Donated. Campaign material, speeches, correspondence, biographical material, and newsclippings relating to Carl E. Bailey's political career. Carl Bailey was born October 8, 1894, in Bernie, Missouri. In October 1915, he married Margaret Bristol at Paragould, Arkansas. He took courses at Chillicothe Business College in Missouri in 1915, but never completed his degree. In 1922, he passed the Arkansas Bar and opened a private law practice in Little Rock in 1924. He served as Prosecuting Attorney for Pulaski and Perry Counties from 1927-1934. He served as State Attorney General from 1934-1936. He served two terms as Governor from 1936-1940. He lost the special election for the U. S. Senate position vacated after Joe T. Robinson's death in 1937. Carl Bailey also ran unsuccessfully for a third term as Governor in 1940.     Art critic, freelance writer, and poet Carl Little, who lives in Somesville, Mount Desert Island, Maine, was born in New York City. He received his B.A. from Dartmouth College, his M.F.A. from Columbia University, and a master\u27s from Middlebury College. He is Director of Communications and Marketing for the Maine Community Foundation. The collection of Carl Little\u27s papers includes correspondence related to his work and personal relationships with artists of Maine. The correspondence series ranges from printed emails organizing curated shows and art books, arranging interviews, and thank-you notes from artists for his reviews of their work. Carl Little gave many lectures and organized educational events relating to the art history of Maine. Primarily, the collection is comprised of the series Artist Files which were his files for the many individual artists he worked with over his career as a reviewer, writer, curator, and lecturer. Carl Little contributed to and wrote many of his own books centered around Maine art, with his most prominent being The Art of Maine in Winter . He had a deep connection with the artist\u27s colony on Monhegan Island, which is known for its role in Maine art history. Correspondence and information on Monhegan Island, specifically with the Monhegan Artists Residency Corporation (MARC), is included in the Monhegan series.
