Międzynarodowe repozytorium z zakresu bibliotekoznawstwa i informacji naukowej E-LIS
[International Repository for Library and Information Science E-LIS] International Repository E-LIS has been created to support self-archiving of documents in library and information science. To date over 12 000 papers from 98 countries have been archived. The repository is a freely accessible voluntary enterprise. For the quality of data is responsible a team of volunteer editors from 47 countries. In the paper policy of acquisition of documents, JITA classification, copyright issues and search methods have been discussed
Application of Interdisciplinary Theory of Genres in LIS
Purpose/Thesis: The article presents the possibilities of using the interdisciplinary theory of genres, developed in the study of linguistics, literary studies, rhetoric, sociology, philosophy, psychology and other disciplines, in library and information science (LIS). The article argues the application of genre theory to LIS offers a new and interesting interdisciplinary perspective.
Approach/Methods: A critical analysis of the literature on the subject introduces the basic premises of the interdisciplinary theory of text/information genres in its historical development in the world and in Poland. A similar method was used to present the most important directions genre theory opens to LIS.
Results and conclusions: Before genre theory was first applied to LIS, it was developed in disciplines such as linguistics, literature, rhetoric, communication and media, discourse analysis, sociology, pedagogy and others and in many countries on all continents (mainly in the USA, Australia, Brazil and Scandinavian countries). The theory’s success is a result of its interdisciplinary development, beginning from linguistic and classical rhetorical genres approach and problems of categorizing texts to “de facto genres” and their function in everyday communication activities (social/rhetoric approach). Applied to LIS, it frames information objects as social constructs whose meaning is constructed in social discourse, driven by genre knowledge. The library and other information systems should be treated as a social communication activity in the recurrent situation of organizing and retrieving information. It means that the work of a librarian (or other information organizers) involves rhetorical activity of creating information objects, as does the work of other information creators, e.g. authors of scholarly publications. The functioning of information system, i.e. production and organization of textual information should be investigated using methods applied in other disciplines, especially humanities and social sciences, as it allows for a broader research perspective.
Originality/Value: The article describes the possibilities of applying genre theory in LIS research, which still do not receive the attention they merit. A wider knowledge of the genre theory would make possible collaborative research involving scholars of other disciplines such as linguistics and sociology
How Do We Measure Use of Scientific Journals? A Note on Research Methodologies
Scientific journals represent a significant and growing part of the libraries and many researchers have attempted to measure their use by various methodological approaches till date. In this paper, the author reviews the methodologies employed by researchers working on scientific journals usage. It aims to present an overall picture of the research methods used in the area, in a way that will be of value to anyone seeking to study scientific journals. The author reviews four main research methodologies which are being used for profiling scientific journals usage including questionnaire, interview, citation analysis and transaction log analysis
Global Digital Library as part of e-Research infrastructure and Science 2.0
The paper presents the concept of a global digital library (GDL) as a place on the Internet, used to realize scholarly communication, public and non-public. The role of GDL in modern, global scientific projects, such as the Cyberinfrastructure (e-Science) and the Science 2.0 were pointed. Essential characteristics of GBC are presented: global/local, hybrid, self-organized and GDL as a boundary object

“Poland represented existential experiences of resistance, political experiences and intellectual impact”. Marek Zybura in conversation with Wolfgang Templin, the author of the German biography of Józef Piłsudski
Wolfgang Templin (born in 1948) was active in the democratic resistance in the former GDR. He co‑founded the party Bündnis 90 in reunified Germany and was writer and author of history books. In the conversation with Marek Zybura (born in 1957) —the Chair of History of Literature and Culture of Germany in the Willy Brandt Centre of German and European Studies at the University of Wroclaw—Templin discusses the origins of his Piłsudski biography (2022), which is being published in the Polish translation by Bellona in Warsaw
Opening sentences in Marek Krajewski’s novels
Opening sentences raise a lot of interest of both linguists and common Polish speakers. It is evident from numerous websites in which Internet users share their observations on the best opening sentences of books (most often novels), as well as theoretical papers and writing guides. The analysis of opening sentences of ten novels by Marek Krajewski (co-author of two of them being Mariusz Czubaj) is to provide an answer to the question to what extent the utterance opening of the texts of the Wroc³aw-based prose writer fulfill the requirements to be met by such type of constructions. It turns out that most crucial are syntactic and semantic features rather than lexical ones. The clash between theoretical assumptions and the M. Krajewski’s writing practice shows that opening sentences of his novels not always fall into classical determinants of incipient formulas. It also illustrates the thesis that a skillful writer does not need to cling to theoretical assumptions to create good opening sentences and novels translated into nearly twenty languages

The Bible in Biblical Movies: Sacrum and Profanum
He looks for criteria determining the selection of such a film into the category. Concentrating on definitions found in numerous dictionaries, encyclopedias and film studies he tries to sort out hitherto approaches to the issue. But the aim of his argument is not to find out whether the biblical film constitutes a separate genre, but rather to answer the question how “biblicality” executed in the film can be perceived and rated. The author builds a typology of films on biblical issues, from direct adaptations of the text of the Scriptures, and attempts to grasp the spiritual dimension of the Bible, to the archetypes of Biblical characters and situations (with special consideration for the person of Christ, his Passion and the issue of the redemption of the world)
