Sensitization of designers to the needs of people with disabilities. Application of experiences in residential interior solutions in Milan
Get PDFThe coordinated experimental and design activities presented in this article are dedicated to the topic of design for people with disabilities. They involve two dimensions. The first and most significant is to draw the attention of future designers and current Interior Design students to the challenges in using space encountered by people with disabilities. To achieve this, sensitization training (workshops) was conducted through simulated disability experiences. Personal experiences and the identification of real difficulties in accessing the surrounding space served as a starting point for design activities: solutions for residential spaces intended for use by people with disabilities in Milan along Via De Amicis. The projects were carried out in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano as part of the Collaborating Classroom initiative, aimed at jointly achieving educational goals in different parts of the world using a shared digital environment and information and communication technologies (ICT). The basis for interior development was architectural projects created by students within Design Lab1 under the guidance of Prof. Marco Lucchini. The subject of the architectural project was a five-story residential building, in which some units were fully adapted for wheel-chair users, crutch users, or blind individuals. Changes, modifications, and improvements made by the students were based on individual experiences of simulating disabilities through the execution of organized tasks outlined in a proprietary accessibility questionnaire (Table 1, 2). Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Myślą przewodnią wieloetapowego autorskiego zadania projektowego przeprowadzonego ze studentami architektury wnętrz było poszukiwanie wielopłaszczyznowej relacji przestrzennej opartej na procesie projektowo-analitycznym z położeniem akcentu na m.in. harmonijną kompozycję, skalę człowieka oraz świadomą kreację estetyczną. Rozbudowane ćwiczenie stanowiło twórczy impuls i istotny czynnik kształtowania świadomości projektowej, otwierając wyobraźnię studentów i wyposażając ich w niezbędne narzędzia projektowe, takie jak rozumienie formy, funkcji, materiału oraz relacji z adresatem projektu i otoczeniem.The article provides an insight into the fundamentals of design, which are the basis of design attempts by beginner interior architecture students. The guiding principle of the original multi-stage design task conducted with interior design students was the search for a multi-dimensional spatial relationship based on the design and analytical process with emphasis on, inter alia, harmonious composition, human scale and conscious aesthetic creation. The extended exercise provided a creative impulse and an important factor in shaping design awareness, opening the imagination of students and equipping them with the necessary design tools, such as understanding the form, function, material and the relationship with the recipient of the project and the environment
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Zagadnienie to omówiono na przykładach koncepcji studentów architektury wnętrz, w których powyższe kryterium odegrało znaczącą rolę w przebiegu pracy projektowej. W procesie dydaktycznym wyeksponowano wagę kryterium rozumienia przez przyszłych adeptów architektury wnętrz indywidualnych cech projektowanych obiektów i świadomego projektowania opierającego się na źródłach w tradycji, kulturze i historii, bezpośrednio oddziałującego na kształtowanie wnętrz - na przykładzie obiektów hotelowych funkcjonujących poza siecią obiektów o z góry założonych standardach projektowych. Analizowane prace studentów wpisane w aktualny język branżowy są w kontekście tożsamości miejsca wyraziste i mają zrozumiały przekaz projektowy.The aim of the article is to demonstrate the importance of the place identity which is an elementary factor influencing the individualization of interiors of hotel facilities. The issue has been discussed basing on the examples of the ideas of the Interior Design students. The above criterion of the place identity played a significant role in the course of the project. In the didactic process the future Interior Designers were shown the importance of understanding the criterion of individual features of designed facilities. The conscious design based on the sources in tradition, culture and history having a direct impact on the interior design process was presented as well. Hotel facilities functioning outside the network of facilities with presupposed design standards served as an example. The analysis of the students projects has shown that they are in accordance with the current branch language, are clear in the context of the place identity and convey a clear message when it comes to understanding the aim of the project

No full textArtykuł opisuje pracę badawczą poświęconą projektowaniu wnętrz w duchu zrównoważonego rozwoju, akcentując rosnącą potrzebę stosowania ekologicznych przesłanek w procesach projektowych. Pośród nich najważniejsze wydają się: efektywność energetyczna, recykling i selektywny dobór materiałów. Badanie koncentruje się na analizie potencjału stosowania naturalnych materiałów w projektowaniu wnętrz domów jednorodzinnych oraz na edukacji studentów architektury wnętrz w dziedzinie projektowania ekologicznego. Metodologia obejmuje agregację danych związanych z ekologicznymi materiałami wykończeniowymi, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ich pochodzenia, procesów produkcyjnych i śladu węglowego. Analizowane są też istniejące koncepcje i projekty jako potencjalne źródło inspiracji, a także rola ekologicznych materiałów w autorskich projektach wnętrz. Nieodłącznym elementem badania jest ankieta przeprowadzona wśród studentów, mająca na celu ocenę ich wiedzy i zrozumienia idei zrównoważonego projektowania. Proces badawczy poprzedza cykl wykładów na temat zrównoważonego rozwoju w projektowaniu wnętrz. Otrzymane wyniki zebrane od grupy studentów są następnie włączane do autorskich projektów wnętrz. Powstałe projekty potwierdzają narastającą świadomość ekologiczną wśród badanej grupy oraz zrozumienie fundamentalnych aspektów zrównoważonego projektowania wnętrz. Wnioski podkreślają pilną potrzebę rozwoju edukacji ekologicznej w kontekście projektowania wnętrz. Wykorzystanie ekologicznych materiałów przyczynia się zarówno do osiągnięcia harmonii estetycznej wnętrz, jak i ochrony środowiska. Artykuł argumentuje, że zrównoważone projektowanie wnętrz nie jest jedynie chwilowym trendem, lecz kluczowym wymogiem współczesności. Podniesienie świadomości społecznej na tym polu, m.in. poprzez edukację, stanowi fundament efektywnego rozwoju tej dziedziny. Odpowiedzialność projektantów wnętrz w kwestii wyboru materiałów oraz praktyk projektowych jest uznawana za priorytetową.The article describes a research paper on sustainable interior design, emphasizing the growing need to apply ecological considerations in design processes. Among these, Energy efficiency, recycling and selective choice of materials seem to be the most important. The study focuses on analyzing the potential of using natural materials in the interior design of single-family homes, as well as on educating interior design students in the field of ecological design. The methodology includes the aggregation of data related to green finishing materials, with a focus on their origin, manufacturing processes and carbon footprint. Existing concepts and designs are also analyzed as a potential source of inspiration, as well as the role of green materials in original interior designs. An integral part of the study is a survey of students to assess their knowledge and understanding of sustainable design. The research process is preceded by a series of lectures on sustainability in interior design. The results, gathered from a group of students, are then incorporated into the author’s interior designs. The resulting projects confirm a growing environmental awareness among the group studied and an understanding of the fundamental aspects of sustainable interior design. The conclusions underscore the urgent need to develop environmental education in the context of interior design. The use of eco-friendly materials contributes to both the aesthetic harmony of interiors and environmental protection. The article argues that sustainable interior design is not just a passing trend, but a key requirement of the modern age. Raising public awareness in this field, including through education, is the foundation for the effective development of this field. The responsibility of interior designers in terms of material selection and design practices is considered a priority
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
