Virtual learning is one of the most effective and efficient learning methods, especially in improving skills including soft skills. In Indonesia, the problem-based learning methodology (PBL) is the most widely applied but has weaknesses in helping to bridge the students in the application of theory to practice. The purpose of this research was to develop learning method by using avatar-based learning to self-directed learning, which is one of the main competencies of nursing education that is lifelong learning. This study was quasi experiment with one group of intervention. Respondents in this study were nursing students of stratum 1 level four. The Self-Directed Learning Instrument (SDLI) was used to measure this research outcome. The paired t-test was used to evaluate the effectiveness of this method against outcomes. A total of 40 students agreed to participate in the study. Before intervention, the mean score for the total self-directed learning score was 72.3 (SD = 8.97). Based on the results of paired t-test about the effectiveness of real-avatar-based learning on self-directed learning, was found that after applied real-avatar based-learning for Medical Surgical Nursing III course there were an increasing of the self-directed learning (different value = 4.56, p value = 0.001). Learning method by applying real avatar-based learning was effective in improve student’s self-directed learning especially on the aspect of improvement of planning, implementation and self-monitoring. For further research, using more rigors with other outcomes is needed to reinforce the effectiveness of this method</em

Kata kunci: Antiretroviral Therapy, HIV, & Kualitas Hidup ABSTRACT HIV is a global public health issues and caused large number of death. There is no cure that can treat or kill the disease, but only antiretroviral drugs are available to reduce mortality and improve their life expectancy. HIV-infected persons who receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) will have impact on their quality of life as well as those who are not receiving such treatment yet. The purpose of this study was to compare domain of quality of life of people who receiving ART with those without ART. This is a comparative cross sectional study with convenience sampling. A total of 84 people living with HIV, including 42 who receiving ART and 42 were not under ART yet. Quality of life was measure using WHOQOL-HIV in brief version. Data were analyzed using independent t test and F test. The results of this study showed that people who receiving ART had significantly higher score of physical, social, and environmental domains of quality of life as compare to those without ART. However, we did not found statistically significant for psychological dimension between two groups. The results of this study can be considered for health care professional to improve quality of care for people living with HIV in Indonesia. Keywords: Antiretroviral therapy, HIV & Quality of life.</jats:p

A NOVEL OF BIOMEDICAL APPROACH FOR HIV PREVENTION: AN INTEGRATED LITERATURE REVIEW

ABSTRACTThe number of new cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections has decreased significantly worldwide. However, in some regions such as Africa and South East Asian, new HIV infections remain high. Prevention strategies such as promoting condom use, male circumcision, and early HIV detection have been implemented well. However, all those approaches still putting people at high risk of HIV infection. The purpose of this review is to summarize current evidence about biomedical approach as an effective HIV prevention. A comprehensive computerized literature search was conducted using PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, clinicaltrials.gov, htpn.org, and meta-register to retrieved relevant literature published from 2005 to 2015 in English to review a current approach for HIV prevention. Biomedical approaches using antiretroviral drugs have shown good efficacy in the prevention of mother-child transmission for post exposure prophylaxis. Recent evidence has also found pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to be promising in preventing HIV. Both WHO and CDC recommended to integrate PrEP and post exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention strategies. Health care policy needs to consider the biomedical approach to HIV prevention, especially in Indonesia. Therefore, Indonesia government may start to develop a clinical guideline and deeply assess the possibility to implement this approach in clinical practice. Keywords: biomedical approach, prevention, HIV, treatment</jats:p

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
