The mossflora in selected areas in Mt. Natib Complex, Bataan Province, Luzon Island, Philippines
One hundred fifty seven species of mosses under eighty one genera and twenty nine families were collected in selected sites in Mt. Natib Complex, Bataan Province, Luzon Island, Philippines during the span of 38 months from 1997 to 2000. The moss flora of Mt. Natib Complex is a component of the greater Luzon moss flora. About 124 (c. 79.0 %) out of the 157 species collected are already known from this island. Remaining species were found in smaller adjacent islands, and in the Visayas and Mindanao. Extra-Philippine distribution of the Mt. Natib moss flora fits well to Malesia with 46.5% of the species collected belonging to the region. Species of clearly Laurasian origin were small at 1.3%. No floristic influence from Australasia or Gondawanaland is evident. Six species comprising about 3.6% of total number of collected moss species in Mt. Natib Complex, namely, Leucoloma perviride, Macromitrium robinsonii, Jaegerina williamsii, Mastopoma robinsonii, Taxithelium robinsonii, and Warburgiella bistrumosa were endemic
New Philippine moss records and additions to the Luzon moss flora
Four new Philippine moss records and five additions for the Luzon moss flora are presented. Anomodontopsis rugelii (Müll. Hal.) Ignatov & Fedosov; Chaetmitrium horridulum Bosch & Sande Lac.; Chaetomitrium vrieseanum Bosch & Sande Lac.; and Dicranoloma deplanchei (Duby) Par. are new country moss records while Anomodon pseudotristis (Müll. Hal.) Kindb.; Bescherellia elegantissima Duby; Claopodium assurgens (Sull. & Lesq.) Cardot; Pseudoparaphysanthus moutieri (Broth. & Paris) S. Olsson, Enroth, Huttunen & D. Quandt and Racopilum magnirete E.B. Bartram are new additions to the Luzon moss flora. Anomodontopsis Ignatov & Fedosov is a new genus record for the Philippines. This report of new records for the Philippine and Luzon’s moss flora has once again highlighted the importance of continued bryological studies in the archipelago. In this respect, field collecting in the country’s intervening islands and understudied areas is still necessary to further improve of knowledge of Philippine moss flora
The mossflora of Camiguin Island, Philippines and their floristic relations to some adjacent islands in the archipelago
The moss flora of Camiguin Island, based on a 2007 expedition conducted by the author, totaled 129 species in 66 genera and 29 families. This represents 17.36% of the 743 moss species and 26.83% of the 246 genera of mosses reported for the Philippines (Linis & Tan 2008). Of these, one taxon, Aerobryopsis cochlearifolia Dix., is reported for the first time in the archipelago. Floristically, Camiguin moss flora is identified more with Mindoro and Luzon within the Philippine archipelago. Likewise, the presence of moss taxa such as Glossadelphus hermaphroditus Fleisch. and Orthomnion javense (Fleisch.) T. Kop. highlights the role of Mindanao in enriching the moss flora of Camiguin Island. Finally, the importance of remaining forests on the island as a proposed protected area is discussed
Orthotrichaceae (Musci) of Palawan Island, with two species new to the Philippines
This paper provides an updated list of the Orthotrichaceae occurring in Palawan Island, the Philippines. Nine species are reported as new to the island. Macromitrium clemensiae E.B.Bartram and M. megalocladon M.Fleisch. are new country records, while the remaining seven species were previously reported in other islands of the Philippines. A key to the species of Orthotrichaceae in Palawan is provided. Descriptions and illustrations are provided for the two new country records. Notes and range extensions for each species reported are discussed
Caloglossa fluviatilis Krayesky, Fredericq & J.N.Norris (Delesseriaceae, Rhodophyta) from Bataan province, Luzon Island, Philippines, a new country record
Caloglossa fluviatilis is one of the least known freshwater algal species of its genus, having been reported from its type locality in Pedro Miguel, Republic of Panama, and Chalakkudy and Periyar Rivers in the State of Kerala, India. This study presents a new locality record of the species from Bataan province on the island of Luzon, Philippines. C. fluviatilis is characterised by having (1) a thallus having a width at the internode region narrower than 1.0 mm, (2) moderate development of adventitious secondary branches at the node, and (3) fewer than eight rhizoidal filaments arising from pericentral cells at the node. Indeed, this Philippine population of C. fluviatilis has helped fill the gaps and extended the distribution of the species to the western Pacific region. Further studies and reassessment of freshwater Caloglossa specimens will contribute to further understanding of these little-known genus members.  
New locality information for fifteen Philippine mosses (Bryophyta) from Luzon and Mindanao islands with one new record
One new record and new locality information for fifteen species of Philippine mosses are reported for Luzon and Mindanao islands. Of these Physcomitrium eurystomum Sendtn. and Syrrhopodon prolifer var. albidus Schwägr. are new records for Luzon island. The former taxon is also new for the Philippines. The remaining taxa: Barbella convolvens (Mitt.) Broth., Chaetomitrium pseudoelongatum Broth., Clastobryum caudatum, M. Fleisch., Distichophyllum osterwaldii, M. Fleisch., D. tortile Dozy & Molk. ex Bosch & Sande Lac., Gemmabryum exile (Dozy & Molk.) J.R. Spence & H.P. Ramsay, Macrothamnium hylocomioides M. Fleisch., Meteoriella soluta (Mitt.) S. Okamura, Plagiomnium integrum (Bosch & Sande Lac.) T. J. Kop., Racomitrium subsecundum (Hook. & Grev.) Mitt. & Wilson, Rhamphidium dixonii E.B. Bartram, Schlotheimia mac-gregorii Brroth. & Geh., Scopelophila cataractae (Mitt.) Broth., and Taxithelium planissimum Broth. are new records for Mindanao island
Phylogenetic Systematics Of Ectropothecium Mitt. (Hypnacea)
Micromorphological investigations and morphometric analyses of median laminal cells in Ectropothecium Mitt. and its relatives in Hypnales confirmed the presence of protuberances in some taxa. Differences in form and size of protuberances were diagnostic and statistically significant in some taxa. Combined cpDNA (rpL32-trnL, trnH-,em>psbpsbA, and trnSGG) and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 nDNA sequence data were well-suited to examine evolutionary relationships of Ectropothecium. All analyses recovered Ectropothecium as paraphyletic and supported sister relationships of Ectropothecium and Vesicularia (Müll.Hal.) Müll.Hal. Analyses of molecular and combined data supported the monophyly of Australasian Ectropothecium, with the inclusion of Trachythecium verrucosum (A.Jaeger) M.Fleisch. in Ectropothecium. These latter analyses also recovered Ectropothecium and Vesicularia as sisters
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
