Induction machine at unity power factor with rotating power electronic converter
No full textA new configuration for the self-excitation of the induction machine invented by Magnus Lindmark is presented. The power electronic converter using solid state switches is connected to the rotor while the stator is directly connected to the grid. Using appropriate control, the reactive power consumed by the motor can be generated in the rotor resulting in unity power factor operation. The rotor connected power electronic converter is also used for constant speed operation of the induction machine at variable torque.</p

Unintentional Climate Policy: Swedish experiences of carbon dioxide emissions and economic growth 1950-2005
No full textThis paper examines the development of carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden, especiallyn with a focus on the absolute reductions during the post-war period, during the 1970s and 1980s. The paper shows that the largest reductions were achieved before the introduction of an active climate policy in 1991. This was in turn the result of significant improvements in energy efficiency and energy conversion, while structural changes were considerably less important. One reason behind this decoupling process may be that the active energy policy put pressure on households and industries to conserve energy and to substitute from oil to electricity and biofuels. The process was substantially reinforced by the development of world oil prices in combination with the development of domestic electricity prices, where nuclear power seems to have played an important role.Sweden; climate policy; economic growth; carbon dioxide reduction; carbon tax

Comparing consortial repositories: a model-driven analysis
No full textThis study aims to provide a comparative assessment of different repository consortia as a reference to inform future work in the area. A review of the literature was used to identify repository consortia, and their features were compared. Three models of consortial repositories were derived from this comparison, based on their structure and aims. The consortial models were based around either: creating a shared repository for the members, developing a repository software platform or creating a metadata harvesting service to aggregate content. Using case studies of each type of repository consortium, each model was assessed in terms of its particular strengths and weaknesses. These strengths were then compared across the models to enable those considering a consortial repository project to assess which model, or combination of models, would best address their needs and to aid in project planning
