Workshop on Understanding and Mitigating Cognitive Biases in Human-AI Collaboration

    No full text
AI systems are increasingly incorporated into human decision-making. Yet, human decision-makers are often affected by their cognitive biases. In critical settings, such as medical diagnosis, criminal judgment, or information consumption, these cognitive biases hinder optimal decision outcomes, thereby resulting in dangerous decisions and negative societal impact. The use of AI systems can amplify and exacerbate cognitive biases in their users. In this workshop, we seek to foster discussions on ongoing research around cognitive biases in human-AI collaboration and identify future research directions to understand, quantify, and mitigate the effects of cognitive biases. We will explore cognitive biases appearing in various contexts of human-AI collaboration: what can cause them?; how can we measure, model, mitigate, and manage cognitive biases?; and how can we utilise cognitive biases for the greater good? We will reflect on workshop discussions to form a research community around cognitive biases and bias-aware systems.Web Information System

M.Phil.In archaic Chinese, “You4(又)”, “You3(有)” and “Huo4(或)” are high frequency characters. Each of the characters have various meanings. Some of the meanings of these characters are similar which are difficult to differentiate.“You4(又)” in a number between its round number and its remainders(e.g. 十又一月) in most of the archaic excavated texts. In ancient Chinese classics and archives, there were only “You3(有)”instead of “You4(又)”in a number between its round number and its remainders(e.g.十有一月). That kind of “You4(又)” and “You(有)3” are concerned to be the same. Also, “You3(有)” and “Huo4(或)” were considered as indefinite pronoun. Moreover, “You4(又)”, “You3(有)” and “Huo4(或)” were said to be adverb which describes the cumulate of an action or accumulate of different actions. However, there are different opinions towards the similarities and differences of “You4(又)”, “You3(有)” and “Huo4(或)”.This study focuses on the excavated texts on or before Western Han dynasty which include oracle bone scripts, bronze scripts and bamboo and silk scripts. Research on archaic classic texts on the same period are also done to compare with the excavated texts. The main reason why focus on the unearthed texts is the advantages of excavated texts over classic texts. The excavated texts usually retain the original features because they have not been revised or modified like the traditional classical texts did, which can mostly show the era and geographical characteristics. Both of excavated texts and traditional classical texts are important and indispensable of the research. This dissertation studies the usages of“You4(又)”, “You3(有)” and “Huo4(或)” in all kinds of excavated texts and traditional classical texts on or before Western Han dynasty in order to find out the similarities and differences in meanings and distribution of these three characters. The linguistics theories are used to distinguish “You4(又)”, “You3(有)” and “Huo4(或)”.「又」、「有」、「或」在古代文獻中是常用字,它們都可以分別代表多個詞。 Thesis M.Phil. An Analysis of the Generalization of the Address Term Teacher and Its Causes in Shandong Province, China

    No full text
The address term “teacher” is very common in Shandong Province. Taking Jining as an example, the author studies the phenomenon and causes of the generalization of the address term “teacher” by means of questionnaire survey. The research shows that most Jining citizens distinguish occasions when using “teacher”, and there is a consistent trend in the distinction of occasions. In addition to some service industries such as shopping malls, restaurants and hospitals affected by their own causes, the address term “teacher” can be used in almost any situation. But in different occasions, the use of “teacher” has different characteristics. As for the causes of the generalization of the address term “teacher”, in addition to the internal factors of language, there are other social factors. And the phenomenon of the generalization of the address term “teacher” will play a positive role in social development

Ambiguity for Social Self-tracking Practices: Exploring an Emerging Design Space

    No full text
Ambiguity is gaining attention in self-tracking research as a means to go beyond the mere quantification of body signals. Recent research has suggested that ambiguity can be used even to enable social connection mediated by personal data. To explore this design space more widely, we organized two design workshops with a total of 67 participants. In this paper, we present three design concepts, as outcomes of the workshops, which use ambiguity to enable social self-tracking practices. We then discuss how these concepts demonstrate the potential of ambiguity to encourage collective sense-making, directly impact the user's social relationships, and offer multifaceted perspectives on reality.Human-Centred Artificial Intelligenc

Gear Modification Design Considering Axis Parallelism Deviation and Thermal Deformation

    No full text
Taking the involute spur gear pair as the research object, the tooth surface convection heat transfer equation is obtained based on the improved friction heat spread by centrifugal ejection model, the tooth surface heat flow equation is obtained based on finite element method and friction heat analysis,on this basis, the gear pair bulk temperature is analyzed considering axis parallelism deviation. Then,thermal- structural coupled model is established, thus gear modification amount is analyzed under axis parallelism deviation and gear pair bulk temperature. After that, the method of calculating appropriate amount of modification is obtained. The result shows that the modification amount can be affected by temperature, and axis parallelism deviation may cause different axial mesh in / mesh out interference, gear pair with axis parallelism deviation is suggested to use profile and axial modification
