Nan Lin and social capital

    No full text
Nan Lin’s work on social capital is a significant, unique contribution. My purpose here is to explain that statement by looking at the work in historical context. Figure 2.1 is an index for much of the story to be told. The horizontal axis is time, beginning in 1975 when Nan Lin was at the State University of New York at Albany (now the University of Albany), through his 1990 move to Duke University, and on to 2010

SUMMARY Marketing, by means of exchanging, results in obtaining the required products and service. Exchanging, the proceeding steps of value creation, usually will benefit mutually and further the exchanging of mutual values. The essence of marketing is aimed at creating customers\ue2 value and satisfaction. A precise definition to the studies of marketing as given by Philip Kotler is that the profitably contented with the requirement. Marketing is derived from the deeds of profits seeking business, while it can be applied to those none profit seeking individuals or organizations as well. Other than marketing of product and service, the deeds of none profit seeking do care about the marketing of human, the local affairs, concepts and organizations. Marketing for people means the efforts to work out and manage the best advantages for certain individual or a group of people. The most common and prevailing examples can be observed in election campaigns. The campaign assistants work with every effort to look for campaign donations, volunteers, supporters and all sorts of campaign activities. The series of this study will focus on how to manipulate the marketing strategies for the politician. Being as the wife of a political figure, the author nominates Lin Pin-kuen, the senator elected from Peng-hu Hsien, as of the subject of case studies. Throughout four election campaigns, from a rookie to a veteran, suffered the failure in his first campaign while succeed in three consecutive terms, Senator Lin Pin-kuen accumulated profound experience in campaign manipulation and strategies. Senator Lin Pin-kuen\ue2s campaign for Peng-hu Hsien in 2001 is the main topics in this case study. Analyses are built on the basis of marketing strategies and further studies in political activities, the election campaigns. Hopefully, the fulfillment of this case study will accomplish the following concepts: 1. The applications of \ue2marketing concept\ue2 to political party, partisan, campaign strategy and management. 2. The proof of marketing creativity and manipulation is applicable to election campaign. 3. Hoping that the necessity and possibility to apply marketing concept in campaign is unavoidable, so as to upgrade the campaign morality, culture and quality. 4. To prove that marketing theory and technique can be both applied to non-profit seeking realms. GENUS: HETEROHARTMANNULA GEN. NOV.
Diagnosis: Dorsoventrally flattened Hartmannulidae with a tail-shaped podite; two circumoral kineties distinctly detached, obliquely arranged in a line with fragmented preoral kinety.

Type species: Heterohartmannula fangi sp. nov. All measurements in Mm. Abbreviations: CV, coefficient of variation (%); EF, equatorial fragment; FvK, frontoventral kineties; Max, maximum; Mean, arithmetic mean; Min, minimum; N, number of specimens; SD, standard deviation; TF, terminal fragment.

Etymology: The prefix ‘hetero’ indicates that the new genus is different from the well-known genus Hartmannula; feminine gender.

Remarks: The family Hartmannulidae is characterized by: presence of podite, left kineties as a continuous field and macronucleus heteromerous (Deroux, 1976c; Corliss, 1979). The genus Heterohartmannula corresponds well to these features. Thus it belongs to Hartmannulidae.

Compared with other related genera in Hartmannulidae (e.g. Aegyriana, Brooklynella, Chlamydonyx, Hartmannula, Orthotrochilia, Trochilioides), the oral ciliature of Heterohartmannula gen. nov. is unique: the circumoral kineties are detached and obliquely arranged in a line (vs. closely arranged as equal marklike), and the preoral kinety is composed of several (e.g. two to four) distinctly detached fragments (vs. single and continuous) (Deroux, 1976c; Song & Wilbert, 2002; Song, 2003; Gong & Song, 2004b, 2006). These differences support the establishment of a new genus.
Published as part of Pan, Hongbo, Lin, Xiaofeng, Gong, Jun, Al-Rashied, Khaled A. Hermann Kuen: A Bavarian Painter in the Service of the Auerspergs of Vlašim

Hermann Kuen: A Bavarian Painter in the Service of the Auerspergs of VlašimThe text describes the activities of the Bavarian painter Hermann Kuen in the years 1781–1805 in the Bohemian town of Vlašim with the Princes of Auersperg. Due to the fact that his works are not preserved, the biographical and sociological levels, which trace his movement in social structures, are of importance. Kuen thus moves from being a painter of Baroque church frescoes in the 1770s to the role of chief decorator of the landscape park of Karel Josef Auersperg in Vlašim. This is in Phase I of the park, when Kuen creates, among other things, exotic paintings of the pavilions, but probably also in the late sentimental phase of the park under William I. Auersperg around 1800, when he is probably also the co-author of the illusory facade of the castle

    GENUS: APORTHOTROCHILIA GEN. NOV.
Diagnosis: Dorsoventrally compressed Hartmannulidae with a podite; oral kineties reduced to two fragments; several kinetal fragments positioned on the right posterior of frontoventral kineties; postoral kineties strongly shortened posteriad; terminal fragments consisting of several parallel arranged fragments.

Type species: Aporthotrochilia pulex (Deroux, 1976) comb. nov. (basionym: Trichopodiella pulex Deroux, 1976).

Etymology: Composite of Greek prefix apo- (derived from) and the generic name Orthotrochilia; feminine gender.

Comparison: In general, Aporthotrochilia gen. nov. resembles Orthotrochilia Song, 2003 in oral ciliature and the pattern of postoral kineties. However, the new genus can be distinguished by the presence of several extra kinetal fragments, i.e. the posterior fragments are on right posterior of frontoventral kineties and the higher number of terminal fragments (more than one vs. single) (Song, 2003).

Compared with other closely related genera (e.g. Microxysma, Trochilioides, Chlamydonyx), Aporthotrochilia can be clearly identified by having two perioral kineties (vs. two circumoral and one preoral kineties), several terminal fragments (vs. single), and several extra kinety fragments caudally positioned on right of frontoventral kineties (vs. none) (Deroux, 1976c).
Published as part of Pan, Hongbo, Lin, Xiaofeng, Gong, Jun, Al-Rashied, Khaled A.
