    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     正榕(Ficus microcarpa Linn. f.),為桑科、榕樹屬,為台灣平野常見的植物,將採集的正榕葉部乾燥後以甲醇冷浸泡,再將此甲醇抽提物以乙酸乙酯與水分配萃取得乙酸乙酯可溶部,接著利用重力管柱層析法粗分,接續利用薄層分析法、快速管柱分析法、高效率液相層析法、再結晶等方法分離純化之,進而鑑定出119個化合物,其中有22個新化合物,包含2類新骨架化合物,6個天然首次分離化合物;分別為: 一、三萜類 (Triterpenoid) 化合物23個,其中有7個新化合物,包含2種新骨架化合物。 二、去鎂葉綠素類 (Porphyrinoid) 化合物18個,其中有6個新化合物,1個天然首次分離化合物。 三、維他命A代謝物類 (Apocarotenoid) 化合物18個。 四、芳香族類 (Aromatic compounds) 化合物18個,其中有3個新化合物,2個天然首次分離化合物。 五、類黃酮類、類黃烷類(Flavonoid; Flavanoid) 化合物13個,其中有2個新化合物。 六、聚異戊二烯類 (Polyisoprenoid; Polyprenoid) 化合物6個,其中有4個新化合物。 七、固醇類 (Steroid) 化合物6個。 八、倍半萜類 (Sesquiterpenoid) 化合物4個,其中有1個天然首次分離化合物。 九、維他命E衍生物類 (Tocopheroid) 化合物3個。 十、二萜類 (Diterpenoid) 化合物3個。 十一、木酚素類 (Lignanoid) 化合物1個。 十二、單萜類 (Monoterpenoid) 化合物1個。 十三、色酮類 (Chromonoid) 化合物1個。 十四、其他類 (Other) 化合物4個,其中有2個天然首次分離化合物。Ficus microcarpa Linn. f. (Moraceae) is a popular ornament plant in the orient. The methanol extract of the dried leaves of F. microcarpa was suspended in water and extracted with EtOAc to yield EtOAc soluble phase.     Criticism and Resistance of the Modernity in Peter Weiss’ Plays

    本研究借重阿多諾、鮑曼和傅柯的現代性理論,討論瑞典劇作家彼得.懷斯的《馬哈/薩德》、《調查》與《越南論述》中隱含的現代性文明批判,指出支撐現代社會運作的理性精神和權力結構,以及現代性工程高度運轉之下潛藏的暴力因子。本文也會考察懷斯之「紀錄戲劇」如何以獨特美學與政治理念重述、改寫歷史以顛覆霸權論述,改變當代社會。將懷斯的文本視為「抵制」的場域,本研究最後將歸結懷斯戲劇的多重面向,並探究身處現代性中的人們有無可能抵制現代性威權、獲得解放。This study examines the criticism of the Modernity in Peter Weiss’ Marat/Sade, The Investigation and Discourse on…Viet Nam from Adorno, Bauman and Foucault’s perspectives to point out the spirit of rationality and the power structure that built up the modern society, and to uncover the Modernity’s potential violence. In addition, the thesis discovers how Peter Weiss’ documentary drama rewrote history to resist dominant discourse or change society. Finally, viewing Weiss’ texts as the field of resistance, the study also reveals various facets of them and finds out the possibilities for modern people to resist dominant discourse and eventually liberate from it

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
