An empirical investigation of Advanced Manufacturing Technology investment patterns: evidence from a developing country
Advanced manufacturing technology (AMT) investment patterns in developing countries is in need of further investigation, particularly in the light of the conflicting evidence from the literature. This paper provides new evidence on AMT investment patterns from the Turkish automotive industry and develops a taxonomy by exploring the relationships between AMT investment patterns, ownership structure, firm size and performance. Analysis of industry survey data suggests the existence of three groups with different AMT investment strategies. Results suggest that AMT investment patterns are not only significantly correlated with firm performance or ownership, but also reveals significant differences in manufacturing performance across investment patterns. Language Features of the Epic "BULBUL VA GUL"(Nightingale and Flower)
In this article the linguistic features of the epic "Bulbul va Gul" (Nightingale and Flower) written by Salahiddin Salahi, who lived in the 18th century, are discussed, in particular, the image tools used in the work, monologue, dialogue, proverb, antonym, synonym, repetition, and the language of the author and character. This shows the poet's ability to use the lexical layers of the language. In addition, with the help of this article, we can get information about the state of the literary language of the 18th century
Human Action Recognition Based on DMMs, HOGs and Contourlet Transform
This paper proposes a framework for recognizing human actions from depth video sequences by designing a novel feature descriptor based on Depth Motion Maps (DMMs), Contourlet Transform (CT) and Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOGs). First, CT is implemented on the generated DMMs of a depth video sequence and then HOGs are computed for each contourlet sub-band. Finally, the concatenation of these HOG features is used as a feature descriptor for the depth video sequence. With this new feature descriptor, the l(2)-regularized collaborative representation classifier is utilized to recognize human actions. The experimental results on Microsoft Research Action3D dataset demonstrate that our proposed method can achieve the state-of-the-art performance for human action recognition due to the precise feature extraction of contourlet transform on the DMMs.EICPCI-S(ISTP)[email protected]
Pride and a Paycheck, Vol. 3, No. 6
Vol. 3, No. 6 issue of Pride and a Paycheck. This issue contains information about a book of cartoons by Bulbul titled "Drawing My Times: Cartoons by Bulbul A 30 Year Retrospective," an article titled "Are You Too Old To Be A Tradeswoman?", a poem titled "They Can Do It," and a cartoon by Bulbul. This issue also contains multiple photographs taken by Jane Humes.
Pride and a Paycheck is a free publication for tradeswomen and women who are thinking about entering blue collar trades. Started by Madeline Mixer in 1999, Pride and a Paycheck was initially funded through the San Francisco Foundation from funds created to support tradeswomen projects. Pride and a Paycheck includes photographs, stories, and poetry by tradeswomen themselves as well as tips from advocates who have been working to recruit women into careers. Pride and a Paycheck is edited by Sue Doro, retired Machinist, and author of “Blue Collar Goodbyes” , “Sugar String”, "Heart Home and Hard Hats", "Of Birds and Factories", and other books
How should we give vitamin D supplementation? evaluation of the pediatricians’ knowledge in Turkey
Abstract Background We aimed to determine the knowledge and attitudes of Turkish pediatricians concerning vitamin D supplement. Methods The study was planned cross-sectional to be carried out between April–May 2015 in Turkey. A questionnaire form that determined the participants’ opinions and practices concerning vitamin D supplement was completed via face-to-face interview. Results A total of 107 pediatricians (49.3%) and 110 pediatric residents (50.7%) participated in the study. Of the physicians, 85.2% recommended vitamin D supplement for all infants and children regardless of diet, 13.4% recommended for the infants which are solely breastfed. Vitamin D supplement is recommended at a dose of 400 IU/day by 88.8% of pediatricians and by 90% of pediatric residents. Of the pediatricians and pediatric residents, 72% and 68.2%, respectively commence vitamin D supplement when the newborn is 15 days old. The rates of recommending vitamin D supplement until the age of one and two years were higher among pediatricians (48.6% and 41.1%, respectively) than pediatric residents (40.9% and 32.7%, respectively). The rate of starting vitamin D supplement for fontanelle closure was significantly higher among pediatric residents (15.5%) than pediatricians (3.7%) (p = 0.002). It was determined that the rate of prescribing vitamin D supplement until fontanelle closure was higher among pediatric residents (18.2%) than pediatricians (0.9%). Conclusions The present study suggest that the knowledge of pediatricians about recommendation of vitamin D needs to be enhanced by education programs in addition to free vitamin D supplement provided by the Ministry of Health
Clinical Characteristics of Neonatal Meningomyelocele Cases and Effect of Operation Time on Mortality and Morbidity
Objective: We aimed to evaluate the clinical features, short-term prognosis, and effect of operation time on mortality and morbidity in neonates with meningomyelocele. Methods: This prospective study was conducted between January 2006 and December 2008. Clinical features, defective area, existence of additional anomalies, operation time, and morbidity and mortality data were recorded. The effectof operation time on mortality and morbidity was evaluated. Results: Patients (n = 28) were assessed during the study period. Mean birth weight, height, and head circumference were found to be 3,160 ± 582 g, 46.2 ± 3.3 cm, and 36.7 ± 4.1 cm, respectively. None of the mothers received folate supplementation. Hydrocephaly (n = 13), pes equinovarus (n = 4), pelvicalyceal ectasia (n = 4), acetabular dysplasia (n = 2), Chiari II malformation (n = 2), and hydronephrosis (n = 2) accounted for additional anomalies. The mean postnatal age for surgical operation was 3.2 ± 2.8 days; mean length of hospital stay was 10.2 ± 9.7 days. The cases operated after 72 h were hospitalized longer, received antibiotherapies for a longer duration and had higher total complication rates (p = 0.04, 0.02, and 0.01, respectively). Conclusion: Surgical operation of patients with meningomyelocele within 72 h after delivery significantly reduces not only the duration of hospitalization and antibiotic usage, but also complication rates.</jats:p
