    Comparison of the Proliferation and Differentiation Potential of Human Urine-, Placenta Decidua Basalis-, and Bone Marrow-Derived Stem Cells

    Human multipotent stem cell-based therapies have shown remarkable potential in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering applications due to their abilities of self-renewal and differentiation into multiple adult cell types under appropriate conditions. Presently, human multipotent stem cells can be isolated from different sources, but variation among their basic biology can result in suboptimal selection of seed cells in preclinical and clinical research. Thus, the goal of this study was to compare the biological characteristics of multipotent stem cells isolated from human bone marrow, placental decidua basalis, and urine, respectively. First, we found that urine-derived stem cells (USCs) displayed different morphologies compared with other stem cell types. USCs and placenta decidua basalis-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PDB-MSCs) had superior proliferation ability in contrast to bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs); these cells grew to have the highest colony-forming unit (CFU) counts. In phenotypic analysis using flow cytometry, similarity among all stem cell marker expression was found, excluding CD29 and CD105. Regarding stem cell differentiation capability, USCs were observed to have better adipogenic and endothelial abilities as well as vascularization potential compared to BMSCs and PDB-MSCs. As for osteogenic and chondrogenic induction, BMSCs were superior to all three stem cell types. Future therapeutic indications and clinical applications of BMSCs, PDB-MSCs, and USCs should be based on their characteristics, such as growth kinetics and differentiation capabilities

It provides a variety of hardware and software services for its customers. Due to the complex mix of products and the different ways of completing the tasks at each section of the factory, it is difficult to estimate the resources needed to complete a set of similar jobs. It is also difficult to put the resources at the right place at the right time and not create under or overcapacity. A quick way of estimating and allocating resources (qualification) is necessary to predict the cost that will incur for a certain job. This is useful during the negotiation process for a new contract and improves decision making of management. Resource allocation allows smooth workflow within the sections of the factory. This can increase factory capacity. This thesis shows the mistakes made by management during former resource estimation and allocation. It shows the step-by-step examination of the factory operations and the model derived through quantitative and qualitative analysis.     Development and implementation of a system testing device for microfluidic devices

    The microfluidic industry has seen tremendous growth over the last years and is expecting further growth in the future. Polymer is the material of choice at the moment for many applications and is being manufactured into microfluidic devices through injection molding. There is no established way of mass producing the mold inserts at the moment. Part of the research conducted at SMA is aimed to explore options in powder injection molding as a quick and reliable process to mass produce mold inserts. During the research phase one needs a way to assess the quality of the new inserts and its suitability to produce molds and microfluidic devices. This is currently achieved by manufacturing the final microfluidic parts using the molds and measuring the properties of these parts using conventional metrology methods at the laboratory.     This paper outlined a theory of meaningful information to explore metaphysical reality and consciousness. It first asserts that there exists a fundamental metaphysical order that can be described mathematically. The core of the theory is triadic nature of meaningful information and their mathematical structure, termed meaningful information monad, which is the fundamental entity at metaphysical depth and scope, as metaphysical reality. The theory could be applied in information science but here those fundamental questions in philosophy and science are focused. It follows both William James’ proposal that the solution of consciousness problem should be in a metaphysical way and Roger Penrose’s proposal that to understand consciousness well needs to understand matter deeper first. The theory can not only repeat the fundamental comprehension of physical world and mathematical world, as essential evidences, but also symmetrically and logically extend to consciousness to unveil its mystery, and further enlighten each other. The results can be compared with current discoveries of sciences including neuroscience and consciousness science. It clearly defined the relations of three worlds and their common foundation. It makes comprehension level of three worlds at same depth and unify them on a deeper foundation in both metaphysical and scientific way. It concludes that consciousness is encoded in the deep nature of metaphysical reality, originated from independence of possible, and its fundamental principle is the translation of structure-possible as one of three translation modes of monad. The theory tries to solve Chalmers’ hard problem and some fundamental easy problems of consciousness. The human being and practice are also natural component of metaphysical reality. This challenge is particularly acute in retail, where the strategic convergence of born-digital retailers expanding physically and traditional retailers going digital creates new cross-domain challenges. Nonetheless, the impact of international physical presence and differences in home country physical infrastructure relative to host countries on MNE performance remains unexplored. Drawing on the integration-responsiveness (IR) framework, we suggest that a non-linear, U-shaped pattern governs the relationship between digital internationalization and performance for these retail MNEs, because the costs of integration and responsiveness are dominant at lower levels of internationalization while their advantages become more pronounced with increased internationalization. Further, we argue that the digital internationalization and MNE performance relationship steepens (a) with a higher international physical presence and (b) for firms originating from home countries with superior physical infrastructure relative to their host countries. Utilizing an 11-year panel of some of the largest retail MNEs, our research contributes to international strategy literature by extending the IR framework to a multidomain digital and physical context, stressing the strategic importance of firm- and country-level physical resources and infrastructure in digital internationalization

    SCW corrosion resistance of candidate stainless steels

    The materials selection for Gen IV supercritical water reactor in-core components faces major challenges due to severe operating condition. The current Canadian pressure-tube supercritical water (SCW) concept design requires core outlet temperature of 650°C at 25 MPa with peak cladding temperature reaching as high as 850°C. Aside from other challenges, there is currently very limited data on candidate stainless steels' corrosion resistance under this operating condition. Austenite stainless steels that include 316L, 304H, AL6XN and 310S that cover a wide range of Cr contents are promising candidates for either direct in core applications or as base coating materials. However, their corrosion resistance has not been tested systematically under this stringent condition.
