Towards combining the innovation ecosystem concept with intermediary approach to regional innovation development

    No full text
Research and development is becoming a global phenomenon implemented on a purely collaborative basis. This leads to the need to search for partners, resources and ideas outside the company. Active development of information and digital technologies in the international practice has promoted gradual emergence of new forms of innovation intermediaries, which have not yet been applied in Russia. We suppose these new forms could be successfully implemented into the Russian innovation ecosystem. The present research is devoted to searching ways to unite the innovation ecosystem concept with the theory of innovation intermediation, emphasizing specific types of innovation intermediation and fundamental mechanisms thereof, supporting incentives and the role in an innovation ecosystem. The research results may be implemented into managerial practices in order to improve and increase the innovation feature and competitiveness of regional innovation systems of the Russian Federation and of concrete enterprises in particular

Purpose: The aim of this article is to analyze neo-institutional approach for regional development by identifying the impact of sociocultural determinants at regional level. Design/Methodology/Approach: For regional economic development, it is required to identify sociocultural factors that contribute to (or impede) the innovative economic development of the regions by highlighting regions in which sociocultural factors will rather contribute (or rather impede) innovative development. Findings: To take account of the influence of sociocultural factors on the effectiveness of institutional transformations, a system of indicators has been developed, evaluating sociocultural characteristics and behavioral attitudes of economic agents in a certain region. Practical Implications: The author developed recommendations before starting the process of institutional changes in a specific regional innovation system. Practical Implications: The article formulates recommendations on the implementation of institutional changes in the region taking into account the sociocultural characteristics of the region's population. Originality/Value: Sociocultural background is very important in terms of fine-tuning the process of institutional in regional level. As such it can be used for changes and to determine the specifics of their conduct in the regions of the Russian Federation.peer-reviewe

Regional economic resilience: bibliometric analysis of the research

    No full text
The problem of ensuring the resilience of regional economic systems to shocks and upheavals has become especially urgent in recent years. The conceptual approach that forms its theoretical basis remains vague and inconsistent, primarily due to the complexity and multifaceted nature of this issue. This necessitates further research aimed at deepening the understanding of the regional resilience phenomenon through the formation of a knowledge structure model of this problem field. The purpose of the work is to identify key aspects and current directions for the development of the concept of regional economic resilience based on the method of bibliometric analysis. The methodological basis of the study was the method of bibliometric analysis combined with network analysis methods. The empirical basis of the study consisted of publications on the topic of regional economic resilience downloaded from the international scientometric database Web of Science. The instrumental basis for the analysis included VOSviewer program, version 1.6.20. During the first stage of the study, the author identified the dynamics of research interest in this topic for the period from 1995 to 2023, the most cited authors and their country affiliation. At the second stage, keywords in this subject field were analyzed, which made it possible to determine the most relevant aspects of studying the problem of regional economic resilience. In addition, clusters of keywords that form individual scientific directions within the analyzed issues were visualized. Analysis of the connections of individual keywords made it possible to identify the factors of regional sustainability most often analyzed by researchers (economic specialization/diversification of the regional economy, institutions, entrepreneurship, innovation, and others). The results of the study expand the understanding of the conceptual approach to regional economic resilience by presenting a holistic view of the problem, identifying and summarizing the various approaches of the authors, and presenting the structure of knowledge in this problem field. Economic resilience is seen not only as the ability of an economy to withstand shocks and recover quickly, but also as the ability of an economy to adapt to constant environmental and social changes. Sustainability is the result of the interaction of internal and external key participants in regional economic systems (economic entities, decision makers, representatives of society), in conjunction with the internal structure of the regional economy and regional potential (resources and human capital)

Impact of transport infrastructure on socio-economic development of regions: econometric analysis

    No full text
This article examines the impact of transport infrastructure on socio-economic development of the regions, analyzes theoretical approaches of foreign and domestic authors to the assessment of transport infrastructure in the context of regional development. The subject of the study is the features of the impact of transport infrastructure on the level of socio-economic development of the regions, formalized as gross regional product (GRP). The influence of transport infrastructure on key socio-economic indicators of regional development and the assessment of its significance through the use of econometric methods are substantiated. To collect and process information, methods of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction were used; for practical justification of hypotheses, analytical, statistical and econometric methods were used; for the conclusions, the method of generalizing materials from scientific, educational and specialized literature, regulatory framework, as well as official statistics data were used. The authors present an attempt to practically justify theoretical approaches to determining the relationship between transport infrastructure and socio-economic development of regions using regression analysis. The study found that the impact of transport infrastructure is heterogeneous – in each region, various significant transport factors influencing economic development are identified, which is due to the peculiarities of the economic structure of the regions, the level of infrastructure development and social aspects. As part of the analysis, the authors were able to establish the statistical significance of the impact of transport infrastructure on economic growth for a number of regions of the Volga Federal District. However, the authors noted that the dynamics of the GRP, as one of the indicators of the level of socio-economic development of the regions under consideration, depends on various factors of the transport infrastructure, which indicates the heterogeneity of such impact. Based on the results of the study, the authors identified the problem of accounting for spatial externalities affecting interregional transport links, which requires a more comprehensive approach to assessing transport infrastructure. The authors concluded that it is necessary to develop a universal and transparent methodology for accounting for external spatial externalities affecting the socio-economic dynamics of the regions

How Administrative Regulation Institutional Factors Affect the Business Efficiency in a Region: A Case Study of Russian Regions

    No full text
Different business environments may have differential impacts. The improvement in the institutional environment and increased certainty about the future greatly impact entrepreneurial activity and business results. The reform of inspection and regulatory enforcement activities aims at improving the business environment, i.e., property, lawful rights, and interests against a variety of risks. Although the reform has been ongoing for several years in Russia, no systematic, independent evaluation of its efficiency and impact on the business efficiency at the meso-level of the Russian economic system has yet been implemented. The research aimed to investigate administrative barriers to business in (1) subdivisions of the Russian Federation on the example of monitoring and supervision activities of state bodies, and (2) the provision of public services. Besides, we measured the impact of administrative regulation on the effectiveness of entrepreneurial activity in the region. Findings from this research are useful in managerial practice, and for academic researchers and policymakers in emerging economies to adopt and consider to improve further the contribution of the administrative regulation institutions in regional economic development

An Assessment of Regional Sustainability via the Maturity Level of Entrepreneurial Ecosystems

Despite the prominence of sustainable development approaches in the academic literature, together with the significance attributed to the economy and society, the concept is not sufficiently theorized, especially in terms of methodological issues. The presented study makes a contribution to the academic literature by providing a synthesis on territorial sustainable development research and related concepts of innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems (EE). We propose a methodological framework for the assessment of regional sustainability, replicating and expanding the approach of D. Isenberg, and draw inference to the impact of institutional environments on the maturity level of EEs. We present our assumptions in the example of two entrepreneurial ecosystems in Russia and Poland (the Penza region and the Małopolska region) with relevant interpretations, which enable us to gain a comprehensive understanding of how to progress in sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem development. The results of this analysis provides information to help academics, policymakers, government, and business owners with a more in-depth understanding of the practical mechanisms that support absorption of the EE model to achieve Sustainable Development Goals

    No full text
Increasing trust in public and state institutions has been a challenging problem worldwide. It is especially imperative for developing countries due to the unfolding economic crisis and the urgency of achieving economic growth based on innovation. Global external threats and challenges have been put on the agenda, such as increasing the level of trust in society to form and maintain social harmony and solidarity. This study addresses certain issues regarding trust and solidarity as communicative values of modern society and their role in regional innovation development. In this study, we argue that there is a relationship between the level of trust of citizens and organizations in public and state institutions and the degree of solidarity in society. This study also highlights the overall relationships among the level of trust in public and state institutions, the economic activity of economic entities, and the positive responsibility of citizens and organizations. This study is beneficial due to the confirmed relationship between the trust of citizens and businesses in government and the level of solidarity in society, which are correlated with the innovative activity of a certain territory. The research results constitute the basis for building mechanisms to increase trust in public and state institutions in a region to enhance the solidarity of government, business, and society. The conclusions are expected to be beneficial for promoting practical activities of state authorities empowered by the problems of regional innovation and socio-economic development problems
