    Les accélérateurs d’ions lourds sont un outil incontournable pour la recherche en physique nucléaire. Ils sont également utilisés pour diverses applications. Il est nécessaire de caractériser la production des neutrons secondaires dans les accélérateurs afin de garantir un fonctionnement sûr en toutes circonstances. Cependant, les données expérimentales sont très rares voire inexistantes. Pour certaines données, on note des divergences entre différentes publications. Des désaccords sont aussi observés entre les mesures et les calculs. Toutes ces raisons justifient le programme Thick Target Neutron Yields (TTNY) dont l’objectif est de mesurer des spectres doublement différentiels (énergie, angle) des neutrons générés par l’interaction des ions lourds (12≤Afaisceau≤208 et 4,6 MeV/nucléon≤Efaisceau≤95 MeV/nucléon) sur cibles épaisses (natC, natCu et natNb). Deux techniques de mesure ont été utilisées : Activation et Temps de vol. Cela permet d’avoir une meilleure confiance dans les mesures, d’étudier les limites expérimentales et de consolider les conclusions que l’on peut en tirer. Les mesures sont comparées à des simulations effectuées dans ce travail avec les codes Monte-Carlo les plus utilisés en calcul nucléaires : PHITS (japonais), FLUKA (européen (CERN/INFN)) et MCNP (américain). Ces comparaisons ont permis d’évaluer la qualité des codes dans les énergies étudiées et pour les masses des noyaux explorées. Elles ont permis aussi de conclure sur les incertitudes systématiques et les éventuelles évolutions à apporter aux modèles physiques de ces codes.Heavy-ion accelerators are an essential tool for nuclear physics research. They are also adopted in several applications. It is necessary to characterize the secondary neutrons production in order to guarantee a safe operation in every circumstance in accelerators. However, experimental data are very rare or even non-existent. For some data, we notice disagreements between different publications. Disagreements are also observed between measurements data and simulations. For all these reasons, we established the program Thick Target Neutron Yields (TTNY). This program aims to measure the double differential neutron spectra (energy, angle) generated by the interactions of heavy-ions (12≤Abeam≤208 and 4.6 MeV/nucleon≤Ebeam≤95 MeV/nucleon) on thick targets (natC, natCu and natNb). Two measurements methods were adopted: Activation and Time of Flight. This choice allows having a better confidence on the measurements, studying experimental limits and consolidating the conclusions that could be drawn from the experimental results. The measurements are compared to the simulations performed with some Monte-Carlo widely used in nuclear simulation: PHITS (Japanese), FLUKA (European (CERN/INFN)) and MCNP (American). These comparisons allowed evaluating the modeling quality of heavy-ion reactions for the energies and masses explored in this work. We also conclude on the systematic uncertainties and on the potential improvements to be introduced to physics models of these codes

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Study of a multi-client cryogenic system for SPIRAL2

    Les travaux de thèse décrits dans ce manuscrit s’intéressent à la modélisation et lecontrôle de procédés cryogéniques associés à un LINAC supraconducteur. Les élémentsconstituants le système cryogénique du LINAC (cryomodules, vannes, tuyaux,...) sontmodélisés sous forme d’objets inter-connectables. Ces mêmes objets sont utilisés pourmodéliser le système cryogénique de l’accélérateur SPIRAL2. La justesse de ces modèlesest évaluée à travers des comparaisons entre simulations non-linéaires et mesures expérimentales.Une fois la capacité de prédiction des modèles validée, ces derniers sont utiliséspour synthétiser des lois de commande. Tout particulièrement, une commande linéairequadratique ainsi qu’un filtre de Kalman étendu ont été réalisés pour les cryomodulesde SPIRAL2. Enfin, la réalisation d’une commande hiérarchisée appliquée au cas d’unréfrigérateur cryogénique est étudiée. Une méthode est proposée pour le contrôle de plusieurssous-systèmes inter-connectés et régulés par des contrôleurs PID, LQ et MPC.The thesis works describe in this manuscript deal with the modelling and the control ofLINAC cryogenic process. The components of the LINAC cryogenic system (cryomodule,valves, pipes,...) are modeled as interconnectable objects. Those same objects are usedto model the SPIRAL2 cryogenic system. The model trueness is evaluated through comparisonbetween experimental and simulated data. Once the model prediction capabilityhas been validated, the models are used to synthetized control laws. More specifically, alinear quadratic command and an extended Kalman filter has been realized for the SPIRAL2cryomodule. Finally, a hierarchical control for a cryogenic refrigerator has beenstudied. A method is proposed for the control of multiple interconnected subsystemsregulated through PID, LQ and MPC controllers

    Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
