Genidentity and Topology of Time: Kurt Lewin and Hans Reichenbach
In the early 1920s, Hans Reichenbach and Kurt Lewin presented two topological accounts of time that appear to be interrelated in more than one respect. Despite their different approaches, their underlying idea is that time
order is derived from specific structural properties of the world. In both works, moreover, the notion of genidentity--i.e., identity through or over time--plays a crucial role. Although it is well known that Reichenbach borrowed this notion from Kurt Lewin, not much has been written about their relationship, nor about the way Lewin implemented this notion in his own work in order to ground his topology. This paper examines these two early versions of the topology of time, and follows the extent of Lewin’s influence on Reichenbach’s proposal

This paper gives an overview of the theoretical basis of the norm optimal approach to iterative learning control followed by results that describe more recent work which has experimentally benchmarking the performance that can be achieved. Also included is a short biography of Erich Lewin by his son Henry Gerd Lewin.Erich Lewin was born in Woldenberg (Brandenburg) in 1889. He was a cantor, teacher and ritual slaughterer in several small Jewish communities and secretary of the Centralverein deutscher Staatsbuerger juedischen Glaubens in Pommerania. Frequency Domain Modeling of High Voltage Transformers Using a Nonlinear Least-Square Estimation Technique
The development of transformer models can be achieved based on experimental frequency response measurements providing access to the windings is available and the physical dimensions are known in order to calculate R, L and C parameter values. Of interest are methods that allow the generation of a suitable model if the R, L and C parameters are unknown and access is restricted to the external terminals of the winding only. Using a lumped parameter model and the measured frequency response across the whole winding, it is possible to estimate the intermediary winding responses. Knowledge of the intermediary winding frequency responses facilitates the development of condition monitoring tools that are capable of locating the source of partial discharge activity or winding deformation within a faulty transformer [1]. This paper includes a full description of the developed modeling technique, along with experimental results from a model winding system that validates the proposed approach

Condition Monitoring of Power Cables
A National Grid funded research project at Southampton has investigated possible methodologies for data acquisition, transmission and processing that will facilitate on-line continuous monitoring of partial discharges in high voltage polymeric cable systems. A method that only uses passive components at the measuring points has been developed and is outlined in this paper. More recent work, funded through the EPSRC Supergen V, UK Energy Infrastructure (AMPerES) grant in collaboration with UK electricity network operators has concentrated on the development of partial discharge data processing techniques that ultimately may allow continuous assessment of transmission asset health to be reliably determined
