New perspectives on Web search engine research
No full textPurpose–The purpose of this chapter is to give an overview of the context of Web search and search engine-related research, as well as to introduce the reader to the sections and chapters of the book. Methodology/approach–We review literature dealing with various aspects of search engines, with special emphasis on emerging areas of Web searching, search engine evaluation going beyond traditional methods, and new perspectives on Webs earching. Findings–The approaches to studying Web search engines are manifold. Given the importance of Web search engines for knowledge acquisition, research from different perspectives needs to be integrated into a more cohesive perspective. Researchlimitations/implications–The chapter suggests a basis for research in the field and also introduces further research directions. Originality/valueofpaper–The chapter gives a concise overview of the topics dealt with in the book and also shows directions for researchers interested in Web search engines

No full textDepuis 1967 Tadeusz Andrzej Lewandowski réside, enseigne, peint dans notre hexagone. Venu de nulle part, c'est-à-dire de Pologne, il intensifie une démarche inlassable de créateur graphique (ayant à ce jour conçu une soixantaine d'affiches) et de plasticien. En tant que peintre, ses toiles sont chargées de symboles procédant d'une réflexion sur le territoire, l'espace, le parcours, et de signes qui viennent y perturber ces différents champs culturels. Dans sa dernière intervention typo-picturale Intitulée : « T. A. Lewandowskl déclare... », il s'est affronté à la problématique du Bicentenaire de la Révolution Française, en quelque sorte une suite logique de son travail antérieur.Larcher Jean. Konrada T. Lewandowskiego wydanej w 150. rocznicę powstania styczniowego, realizującej
model historii alternatywnej w konwencji steampunk. Lewandowski kontynuuje
złotą legendę Traugutta – męczennika sprawy narodowej kształtującą się już od dnia
egzekucji Rządu Narodowego, a ugruntowaną w literaturze pięknej przez E. Orzeszkową.
Nowością zaproponowaną przez pisarza jest rzeczywistość alternatywna, w której powstańcy
styczniowi pokonali Rosję dzięki cudowi techniki – specyficznym czołgom
wymyślonym przez I. Łukasiewicza. Traugutt w owej rzeczywistości nie ginie, zostaje
Naczelnikiem Państwa; podobnie jak realny pierwowzór jest dobrym żołnierzem i człowiekiem
głębokiej wiary. Lewandowski podkreśla patriotyzm i heroizm bohatera, gdy
ten dobrowolnie godzi się na śmierć dla ojczyzny.The article analyzes the creation of Romuald Traugutt in the fantasy novel by Konrad
T. Lewandowski, published on the 150th anniversary of the January Uprising, which
implements the model of alternative history in the steampunk convention. Lewandowski
continues the golden legend of Traugutt – a martyr of the national case, which has been
evolving since the day the National Government was executed, and grounded in belleslettres
by E. Orzeszkowa. A novelty proposed by the writer is an alternative reality in
which the January insurgents defeated Russia thanks to the technical miracle, specific
tanks invented by I. Łukasiewicz. Traugutt in this reality does not die, he becomes the
Chief of State; just like the real prototype, he is a good soldier and a man of deep faith.

No full textMuch of the work in loop quantum gravity and quantum geometry rests on a mathematically rigorous integration theory on spaces of distributional connections. Most notably, a diffeomorphism invariant representation of the algebra of basic observables of the theory, the Ashtekar-Isham-Lewandowski representation, has been constructed. Recently, several uniqueness results for this representation have been worked out. In the present article, we contribute to these efforts by showing that the AIL-representation is irreducible, provided it is viewed as the representation of a certain C*-algebra which is very similar to the Weyl algebra used in the canonical quantization of free quantum field theories
