Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Die Auswirkung des täglichen Gebrauchs von Antitranspirantien auf die systemische Aluminiumbelastung

Aluminium ist das häufigste Metall und das dritthäufigste Element der Erdkruste, durch sein ubiquitäres Vorkommen kann es sowohl über die Nahrung als auch über das Trinkwasser sowie inhalativ aufgenommen werden.
Die dermale Aufnahme ist im Gegensatz zur oralen, inhalativen und parenteralen Aufnahme bisher wenig untersucht und die publizierten nationalen und internationalen Studienergebnisse bieten Raum für kontroverse Diskussionen.
Das Ziel dieser Studie war es, die Auswirkung des täglichen Gebrauchs aluminiumhaltiger Antitranspirantien unter Alltagsbedingungen auf die systemische Aluminiumbelastung zu quantifizieren. Da vor dem Hintergrund der Verunsicherung in der Bevölkerung und der umfangreichen Anwendung aluminiumhaltiger Präparate eine toxikologische Risikobewertung dringend notwendig ist.
Methode
Um die Auswirkung des täglichen Gebrauchs eines aluminiumhaltigen Antitranspirants auf die systemische Aluminiumbelastung zu untersuchen, wurden 21 gesunde, freiwillige Probanden*innen rekrutiert. Hierbei wurde darauf geachtet, dass diese vor der Studie möglichst geringen externen Aluminiumbelastungen ausgesetzt waren. Zur Exposition verwendeten die Probanden*innen über 14 Tage ein handelsübliches aluminiumhaltiges Rollon Antitranspirant. Um weitere Einflussfaktoren auf die systemische Aluminiumbelastung besser einschätzen zu können, wurden weitere potenzielle Aluminiumquellen über einen Fragebogen während der Exposition abgefragt. Da sich die Rekrutierung schwierig gestaltete, wurde die Exposition zeitlich gestaffelt in zwei Teilen durchgeführt.
In Teil I (n = 7) wurden sowohl Plasmaproben als auch 24-Stunden Sammelurinproben vor und nach Exposition gewonnen. In Teil II (n = 14) wurde – nach den Erkenntnissen aus Teil I - auf die Gewinnung von Plasmaproben verzichtet und nur 24-Stunden Sammelurinproben vor und nach Exposition gewonnen.
Für jede Urinprobe wurde die Kreatininausscheidung über 24 h bestimmt. Proben mit einer Kreatininausscheidung von 30 % zwischen den verschiedenen 24 h Sammelproben wurden in den Ergebnissen nicht berücksichtig, da hier von einer unvollständigen Sammlung des Sammelurins ausgegangen wurde.
Um inter- und intraindividuelle diuretische Effekte auszugleichen, wurde neben der Alumini- umausscheidung über 24 h mit Volumenbezug (μg Al/L) die Ausscheidung auch auf Kreatinin (μg Al/g Kreatinin) bezogen. Für die allgemeine Aluminium Hintergrundbelastung der Bevölkerung wurden die Referenzwerte aus der Literatur herangezogen (Urin 15 μg Al/g Kreatinin ; Plasma 10 μg/L Plasma).
Ergebnisse und Beobachtungen
Das Studienkollektiv bestand insgesamt aus n=21 freiwilligen, gesunden Probanden*innen (n=8 Männer und n=13 Frauen, Alter 20 – 37). Von diesen n=21 Probanden*innen lagen sieben Plasmaproben aus dem Teil I der Studie vor, die in der Auswertung berücksichtigt wurden. Bei n=15 der Probanden*innen wiesen die 24-h Sammelurinproben eine Kreatininausscheidung von über 700 mg/Tag und eine intraindividuelle Abweichung von unter 30 % auf und wurden somit in der Auswertung berücksichtigt.
Die im Plasma gemessenen Aluminiumkonzentrationen (n=7) lagen vor Exposition in einem Bereich von 0,6 – 2,1 μg/L bei einem Median von 1,33 μg/L und nach Exposition in einem Bereich von 1,43 – 2,08 μg/L bei einem Median von 1,48 μg/L. Kein einzelner Messwert über- traf dabei den Referenzwert für Aluminium im Blut von 10 μg/L. Die Aluminiumbelastung im Plasma zeigte vor bzw. nach der Anwendung der aluminiumhaltigen Antitranspirantien in dem Teilkollektiv I keinen signifikanten Unterschied.
In den Urinproben der n=15 Personen, die für die Auswertung berücksichtigt werden konnten, lag die Aluminiumkonzentration vor Exposition bei 1,68 – 8,26 μg/g Kreatinin (Median 3,8 μg/g Kreatinin). Nach der Exposition lagen die Aluminiumkonzentrationen bei 1,47 – 9,42 μg/g Kreatinin (Median 2,81 μg/g Kreatinin). Auch hier konnte keine einzelne Überschreitung des Referenzwertes für Aluminium im Urin von 15 μg/g Kreatinin objektiviert werden. Ein signifikanter Unterschied in der Aluminiumkonzentration im Urin konnte nach der Exposition im Vergleich zu vor der Exposition nicht gezeigt werden.
Schlussfolgerung
Die Ergebnisse zeigen keine messbare Auswirkung auf die systemische Aluminiumbelastung unter Alltagsbedingungen durch die Verwendung eines handelsüblichen aluminiumhaltigen Rollon-Antitranspirants über 14 Tage. Bei der Interpretation der Ergebnisse ist u.a. die relativ kleine Kollektivgröße zu berücksichtigen. Zudem ist zu beachten, dass die Exposition unter Alltagsbedingungen und nicht unter Laborbedingungen erfolgt ist. Die in dieser Studie gewon- nenen Ergebnisse decken sich jedoch mit den Beobachtungen aktuell publizierter Studien, wonach die Verwendung aluminiumhaltiger Antitranspirantien nicht zu einer relevanten der- malen Aluminiumaufnahme führt und damit im Alltag als unbedenklich eingestuft wir
