    Audiomobiles, Sculptures and Conundrums

Roberto Gerhard was a pioneer of electronic music in England creating a number of substantial concert, theatre and radio works from as early as 1954. Gerhard’s electronic music is one of the richest repositories for understanding the development of the composer’s late compositional technique. Apart from the Symphony no.3, ‘Collages’, none of Gerhard’s electronic music is published. This paper will discuss aspects of Gerhard’s electronic music, focusing on Audiomobiles (1958-59) and Sculptures (1963)

Bruno Leoni: un irregolare del liberalismo italiano

    No full text
Bruno Leoni was one of the most original thinkers of Italian Liberalism and a protagonist of the international debate that set the stage for the rebirth of Classical Liberalism. In "Scambio dei poteri e stato delle pretese" Raimondo Cubeddu deals with various themes: the criticism of kelsenian normativism and the reduction of the law to legislation; Leoni's link with the Austrian School and his innovative approach to political science; the criticism of democracy and political representation. This reconstruction shows how Leoni's reflections about political power and the state can be interpreted as transition point between Classical Liberalism and Anarco-Libertarianism. While convinced of the impossibility of avoiding collective choices, Leoni has in fact laid the foundations for thinking politics beyond the state. Even though the pars destruens of Leoni's thought does not match an equally effective pars construens, Cubeddu argues that investigating the possibility of non-coercive political order remains an unavoidable task for political philosophers

Roberto Gerhard’s Sound Compositions: A Historical-Philological Perspective. Archive, Process, Intent and reenactment

This research advances the current state of knowledge in the field of early tape music both empirically and methodologically. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact that the electronic medium exerted in the musical thinking of Roberto Gerhard, one of the most outspoken, prolific and influential composers in the Spanish diaspora whose musical legacy, for the most part unknown, is a major landmark in the early history of electroacoustic music. Gerhard’s personal tape collection, one of the largest historical archives of its kind reported in the literature, is exceptional for both its antiquity (50+-year-old tapes) and its abundance of production materials. Through the digitisation and analysis of the composer’s tape collection this research argues that the empirical study of audio documents sets out a basis for a broader understanding of textual processes. More specifically, the research demonstrates that the reconstruction of works based on magnetic tape sketches is a powerful method to advance the understanding of early tape music. This research also examines Gerhard’s sound compositions in relation to the post-war context in which they were composed. Finally, this research presents performance documentation that proposes an approach to the electroacoustic music repertoire in which creativity is not at odds with rigor and critical discernment demonstrating that archival study can be closely aligned to the concept of re-enactment

Inventory centralization and decentralization in spare parts supply chain configuration: a bibliometric review

    No full text
In recent decades, the scientific literature has underlined the difficulties in configuring spare parts Supply Chains (SCs) due to the need of minimizing inventory stocks, while facing demand unpredictability and ensuring high service levels. When dealing with spare parts retail companies, it is essential to establish the optimal SC configuration. Indeed, aligning spare parts storage and distribution activities with customer needs ensures customer satisfaction, increased sales profits, and efficient company performance. Configuring spare parts SCs implies performing two tasks. First, defining the deployment strategies of spare parts into Distribution Centers (DCs), choosing between antithetical solutions such as centralization or decentralization. Then, establishing inventory control policies for each item in each DC, planning how many stocks to supply and how often. Regarding the task of establishing the spare parts supply, several contributions have been provided by the literature, proposing methods and tools to control inventories in a single DC. Conversely, against expectations, the literature overlooks the task of planning the spare parts deployment. Indeed, although the different characteristics of centralized or decentralized SCs are known since the 1960s, a few studies have been provided to support spare parts retailers in choosing between centralization and decentralization. In this context, the present paper offers a bibliometric review carried out with a Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA) on the topic of spare parts deployment in SC configuration and the choice between centralization and decentralization. The proposed bibliometric review is useful to understand the state of the art in the analyzed domain, also identifying the top contributing research studies. As a result, descriptive metrics on the retrieved papers are provided to give an overview of the current body of knowledge and lay the foundations for define possible gaps and future research activities

Reducing energy consumption in industrial plants: An Integrated Multi- Criteria Decision-Making Framework with Similarity Aggregation Method

    No full text
The reduction of energy consumption in manufacturing industries has become a primary focus, driven by increased environmental awareness and the introduction of European Directives. Adopting energy-saving solutions can not only reduce environmental impact but also enhance production performance. A prevalent strategy for achieving higher energy efficiency involves the replacement of outdated technologies within production plants. This approach is widely adopted across various industrial sectors; however, selecting the most appropriate technology is a complex task due to the vast array of solutions available in the market. Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods can be employed to address this challenge, but the choice of a suitable MCDM tool is crucial, as different tools may yield varying results. Additionally, MCDM approaches typically necessitate expert elicitation, which often entails integration with Fuzzy Set Theory (FST) to manage subjectivity and uncertainty arising from expert judgments. It is essential to appropriately aggregate differing expert opinions, considering both the importance of each expert and the consensus among them. This paper proposes an integrated MCDM framework that combines a robust approach for aggregating expert opinions. We achieve this by combining the fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and fuzzy VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) methods, offering increased flexibility for users. Simultaneously, the improved Similarity Aggregation Method (SAM) is employed to aggregate the opinions of various experts, taking into account the degree of consensus. The developed framework is demonstrated through a case study of a cement plant, and it can be utilized to identify the most suitable technology for a given enterprise
