Ripple torque minimization in six-phase PM generators with arbitrary EMF waveform
A new strategy is proposed to control the power flow in Six-Phase Permanent Magnet Generators (SPPMG) with arbitrary Electromotive Force (EMF) waveform. The strategy aims to minimize ripple torque and reduce reactive power that flow on the machine. The control algorithm is based on the instantaneous active and reactive power theory and is implemented with two conventional three-phase converters with current control loops. The control currents of the machine are implemented using a variable change, allowing for any SPPMG with arbitrary EMF waveform get a similar result that a vector control with sinusoidal EMF waveform.Fil: Catuogno, Guillermo Ricardo. Fault-Tolerant inverter for Power Flow Control in Variable-Speed Four-Wire Permanent-Magnet Generators
A strategy for fault detection and tolerance on the inverter that controls power flow in variable-speed permanent-magnet generators is proposed in this paper. The performance of the proposed strategy is analyzed in two different four-wire topologies. In the first topology, the neutral point of the generator is connected to the middle point of the dc-link capacitor bank, whereas in the second topology, it is connected to a fourth leg of the inverter. The main contribution of this paper resides in the control scheme, which allows a steady operation through a fault occurrence without the need of reconfiguring neither the inverter topology nor the control algorithm. In this way, transients and the use of extra hardware components are avoided. In addition, a control loop that allows limiting the generator losses at any operation point is presented in order to protect the machine. Finally, experimental results, obtained from a laboratory prototype, validate the practical feasibility of the proposed strategy.Fil: Catuogno, Guillermo Ricardo. Universidad Nacional de San Luis. Online Voltage Sensorless High-Resistance Connection Diagnosis in Induction Motor Drives
A new method for online high-resistance connection (HRC) diagnosis in induction motor (IM) drives is presented in this effort. This voltage sensorless method is based on a signal injection strategy applied to the IM during its normal operation. The signal is injected in the d-axis in such a way that it provides the phase currents with a dc component while avoiding torque perturbation. By measuring phase currents, it is possible to detect and isolate HRC problems. Experimental results showing high sensitivity to HRCs and immunity to symmetrical stator resistance variations have been obtained in a laboratory setup. The low perturbation produced by the injection method over the IM variables has also been experimentally demonstrated.Fil: de la Barrera, Pablo Martin. Universidad Nacional de Rio Cuarto. Design of a decoupling strategy and parameter calculation for six-phase PM machines with general angular displacement
A novel decoupling model for a six-phase permanent magnet machine is proposed in this paper. The model considers the machine as two independent three-phase stator windings that are spatially shifted by a generic angle (Formula presented.). The proposed transformation considers the zero sequence and allows the coupling between phases to be eliminated. The parameters, which define the dynamic behaviour of the model, are calculated with simulations performed using the finite-element method. The decoupled model and the parameters are analyzed for two configurations of a traditional six-phase machine. Simulation results were validated by experimental results with a simple procedure.Fil: Catuogno, Guillermo Ricardo. Universidad Nacional de San Luis. Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias Agropecuarias. Power Flow Maximization in Permanent-Magnet Generators
The main hypothesis proposed in this paper is that by controlling the harmonic and zero-sequence components of the current in nonsinusoidal permanent-magnet synchronous generators (PMGs), additional energy can be obtained, thereby increasing the machine power density without increasing the Joule effect losses. Two different strategies are proposed for three- and four-wire topologies; therefore, four different cases are analyzed. The strategies consist in controlling the PMG stator currents, following a function that depends on the waveform of the back electromotive force (EMF). The current function is obtained from the instantaneous reactive power theory. An experimental system was built to validate the proposal. Experimental results prove that it is possible to increase power in a tested PMG by 7% using the four-wire topology in comparison with the conventional block commutation and same losses. Higher power gain can be obtained for machines with almost rectangular-shaped EMF waveforms.Fil: Catuogno, Guillermo Ricardo. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas; Argentina. Maximizing Energy Transference in PMSG with Arbitrary EMF Waveform
A control method is proposed with the objective of maximizing the energy transference in permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG). Such control is based on the evaluation of instantaneous power components. First, the conventional control strategy 6 steps for PMSG in compared with the strategy proposed for 3-wire systems where the latter has the advantage of minimizes copper losses and reduce torque ripple. Then a 4-wire systems is analyzed, the topology implemented connect the neutral point of the generator to the midpoint of the DC bus capacitor bank, in these case, the strategy proposed can increase the energy transfer exploiting the homopolar current flow. Simulation results are presented and analyzed to validate the proposed strategies for generators with three different EMF waveforms. From these results, it can be concluded that when neutral is connected, it is possible to take advantage of the homopolar components of the generator EMF by imposing and adequate current with the objective of maximizing the generator power.Fil: Catuogno, Guillermo Ricardo.
In
Electric drives play a major role in engineering today. They make the automation of many
complex processes possible and set new standards in precision and efficiency. But this also
increases the demands on the drive and its control. In particular, there is a trend towards
intelligent control with condition monitoring and fault tolerance.
The present work is intended to contribute to research into this topic. In this context,
model-based predictive control (MPC) that is becoming popular in drive technology is
being investigated for use as a fault-tolerant control strategy with integrated real-time
fault detection. For this purpose, in the first part of the thesis, a direct position control of
the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is developed based on MPC. When
calculating the control variable trajectory, the developed control algorithm explicitly
considers the existing voltage and current limits. Furthermore, overshoot of the rotor
position as a controlled variable is minimized by a soft constraint. The experimental results
demonstrate the clear superiority of the developed control algorithm compared to the classic
PI-based field-oriented control in terms of both reference and disturbance behavior, which
is due to the better utilization of the system variables by explicitly taking the constraints
into account.
The second part of the dissertation deals with the possibilities that the use of the MPC
opens up with regard to fault detection. This is analyzed using two specific types of faults,
the inter-turn short circuit and the open phase. The developed fault detection strategy
uses the MPC’s inherent prediction to calculate the residual between the expected and the
occurring system response. This eliminates the reference behavior of the system and the
fault-specific pattern appears more clearly. Futhermore, for the detection of an inter-turn
short circuit, a new coordinate system has been presented, which allows detection even
under non-stationary conditions. The subsequent experimental results confirm rapid and
reliable fault detection even in the transient state.
Finally, the results from the first and second part flow into a fault-tolerant torque
control algorithm, based on MPC and developed in the third part of this work. Again,
the fault tolerance relates to the inter-turn short circuit and an open phase and requires
hardware modification in the form of a neutral conductor connected to the DC-link bus of
the inverter. The developed control algorithm does not require any structural adjustment
when transitioning from the fault-free state to the fault, like most fault-tolerant control
strategies with this hardware topology. This is achieved, among other things, by explicitly
regulating the neutral conductor current. The experimental results confirm a very dynamic,
fault-tolerant control performance with a transition from the fault-free state to the fault
that is hardly noticeable in the torque curve
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Anwendung finden. When designing electrical linear machines, it can be a challenge to define an exact operating point for
which the machine is to be optimized. Especially for linear actuators with highly dynamic motion profiles, it
is not possible to define a steady-state operating point for optimization, as is done in conventional design
methods. This problem is addressed in the present work.
With the priority on maximizing the energy efficiency of a drive system for periodic movements, its behavior
was described analytically and characteristic properties and relationships were established. Based on the
design criteria found in the process, an optimization procedure was developed which was used to design
an electric machine for a free-piston linear generator.
Experimental measurements on the designed prototype were used to verify the simulation steps and to
prove the effectiveness of the design criteria. Thus, this research achieved the goal of developing a design
methodology for electrical linear machines, elaborating characteristic criteria and performing a validation in
order to present an approach for the optimization of drive systems with highly dynamic, periodic motion
cycles
