Facilitating, understanding, and controlling the oxygen reduction reaction for fuel cell technology using (1) laccase-inspired tricopper molecular catalysts, (2) a high temperature and pressure reaction vessel, and (3) a hybrid bilayer membrane electrochemical platform
The objectives of my thesis were to investigate three major facets of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR: O2 + 4 H+ + 4 e– → 2 H2O). First, I developed new tri-copper catalysts for the ORR with a specific focus on the active site present in multi-copper oxidases, which are the most active enzymes for the ORR. Second, I evaluated the ORR kinetics at high temperature (between 100 and 200 °C) and under pressurized conditions (between 0.7 and 3.4 MPa). Third, I designed and prepared a hybrid bilayer membrane (HBM) electrochemical platform to control the ORR mechanism by modulating the proton flux.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'Closed Access', the embargo will last until 2018-05-01The student, Chun Ming Edmund Tse, accepted the attached license on 2016-01-28 at 10:52.The student, Chun Ming Edmund Tse, submitted this Dissertation for approval on 2016-01-28 at 11:05.This Dissertation was approved for publication on 2016-02-17 at 13:52.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #9051 on 2016-07-07 at 14:15:55Made available in DSpace on 2016-07-07T21:04:19Z (GMT). The political role of the people's liberation army 1949-1973
This thesis is to study the political role of the People's Liberation Army from the approach of structure and function. The framework of the thesis consists of three major parts, first, the influence of Chinese traditional political culture on, and the formation of, the political role of the PL A; second, the influence of domestic political struggles and external military conflicts on the development of the political role of the PLA; and the third, the analysis of the transition of the PLA's political role from the structure and personnel arrangements of the CCPCC Within the above-mentioned three scopes, this thesis make a thorough discussion on the following: (1) The relationship between the structure of the PRC and the formation of the PLA's political role; (2) How has ideology influenced the army's political role; (3) What is Mao's viewpoint and his influence on the development of the army's political role; (4) What is the link between the army and the party, and how has this developed; (6) What accounts for the expansion of the PLA's political functions; (7) What is the influence of political factional struggles on the PLA's political role; (8) Is it political institution or military institution that controls the recruitment of the military elite; (9) What are the disparities between the military elite in handling international conflicts and what are their political considerations; (10) What is the Party's position in the army; (11) How have the Party’s important meetings and personnel arrangements influenced the rise and fall of the PLA's political role

Risk and the regulated self : self-reflexivity through meditation in Poh Ming Tse.
In this paper, I seek to show that Giddens’s notion of self-reflexivity pervades throughout the micro-institutional and ground levels of Poh Ming Tse’s (PMT) beginner meditation class - a reflection of the larger phenomenon of societal reflexivity which stems from the overall framework of risk negotiation and prevention. Through ethnography and interviews, I have structured my analysis according to “Micro-institution” and “Self”, of which the former explores PMT’s self-reflexive brand of meditation through course teachings while the latter portrays the heterogeneity of self-reflexivity through the analysis of participant decision making processes by determining that (1) primary participation motivations for PMT’s meditation class are secular- risk negotiation – not religious in nature (2) the nature of motivations affects participants’ preference towards aspects of the course (3) different notions of self-reflexivity between micro-institution and participants lead to conflict.Bachelor of Art

RaBBiT (Raising Biilingual Babies in Talk)
The RaBBiT (Raising Bilingual Babies in Talk) initiative aims to provide research-informed guidance on how to raise bilingual children to expecting parents and parents with young children aged 0 to 6. The production of the videos and booklets are supported by the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism (MOE), Singapore. The initiative is led by Dr. Yvonne Tse Crepaldi and supported by a team of experts in bilingualism from Singapore and overseas. They include Prof. Suzy Styles and Prof. Ng Bee Chin from NTU, Prof. Seetha Lakshmi and Prof. Mukhlis Abu Bakar from NIE, and Prof. Elizabeth Lanza from the University of Oslo
