In this article, we consider a high-dimensional quantile regression model where the sparsity structure may differ between two sub-populations. We develop ℓ1-penalized estimators of both regression coefficients and the threshold parameter. Our penalized estimators not only select covariates but also discriminate between a model with homogenous sparsity and a model with a change point. As a result, it is not necessary to know or pretest whether the change point is present, or where it occurs. Our estimator of the change point achieves an oracle property in the sense that its asymptotic distribution is the same as if the unknown active sets of regression coefficients were known. Importantly, we establish this oracle property without a perfect covariate selection, thereby avoiding the need for the minimum level condition on the signals of active covariates. Dealing with high-dimensional quantile regression with an unknown change point calls for a new proof technique since the quantile loss function is nonsmooth and furthermore the corresponding objective function is nonconvex with respect to the change point. The technique developed in this article is applicable to a general M-estimation framework with a change point, which may be of independent interest. The proposed methods are then illustrated via Monte Carlo experiments and an application to tipping in the dynamics of racial segregation. AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF MICROLEAKAGE IN CLASS Ⅱ FILLING ON PRIMARY MOLARS WITH GLASS I0NOMER SILVER CERMET CEMENT (KETAC SILVER**(R)) In Hwan Lee, D.D.S. Dept of Dental Science, Graduate School, Yonsei University. (Directed by Professor Jong Kap Lee, D.D.S., Ph.D.) The propose of this study is the comparision of marginal leakage of the cases filled with glass ionomer silver cermet cement (Ketac silver) and those of posterior composite resin and amalgam which have been widely used as filling materials in class Ⅱ cavity of primary molars. The experimental primary molars were selected without any sign of dental caries, filling bodys, tooth fracture and gross defects. 93 cavities were prepared and randomly divided into 3 group : the first group were filled with Ketac silver, the second group were filled with P-50 as posterior composite resin and the third group were filled with amalgam, resfectively. Dye penetration method with methylene blue was applied for measuring marginal leakage of 3 groups and the conclusion obtained was as follows ; 1. Marginal leakage of Ketac silver filling group was greater than P-50 filling group and lessor than Amalgam filling group in occlusal, gingival margin and the results showed statistical significance. 2. The gingival leakage was greater than occlusal marginal leakage in all groups and this result showed statistical significance.restrictio

Concave Silica Nanosphere with a Functionalized Open-Mouthed Cavity as Highly Active and Durable Catalytic Nanoreactor

    No full text
Despite increasingly intensive research into catalytic hollow nanoreactors, most of the work has focused on the enclosed cavity structure, and attempts to use the open-mouthed cavity have not been made so far, most likely due to the lack of methodologies for producing and functionalizing such a structure. This paper reports a synthetic strategy toward open-mouthed cavity-based nanoreactors, which renders the SiO2 nanosphere with a concave surface and also immobilizes catalytic nanocrystals (NCs) specifically inside the concave region. By putting the Janus silica-encapsulated manganese oxide (MnO) nanoparticle, with its highly off-centered core@shell structure, through the thermal hollow-conversion process, the edge-touching MnO nanoparticle was transformed into a hollow hemispherical manganese silicate layer with an opening to the outside, thus producing the bitten apple-like structure, conc-(Ni/HMS)@SiO2, with an open-mouthed cavity on the SiO2 nanosphere. The galvanic replacement reaction occurring on the manganese-silicate layer of the conc-(Ni/HMS)@SiO2 afforded the site-specific immobilization of catalytic Pt NCs on the preformed concave interior surface, signifying the possible postsynthetic functionalization of an open-mouthed cavity which could be adapted for the development of a nanoreactor system. The newly developed nanoreactor, Pt@conc-SiO2, carrying tiny catalytic Pt NCs inside the semiexposed and also semiprotected pocket-like space, exhibited an increased reaction rate and a more extended range of applicable substrates in catalyzing the reduction of nitroarene compounds, compared with the enclosed cavity-based analogue, while preserving the high immobilization stability of Pt nanocatalysts during the recycling process.1151sciescopu

Violent Experiences and Coping among Home Visiting Health Care Workers in Korea

    No full text
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore violent experiences of home visiting health care workers in Korea. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 1,640 health care workers. Data collection was done between September 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010. Results: Of the respondents, 70.6% had experienced work-related violence. Shouting (51.9%) was the most common verbal violence, followed by verbalizing sexual remarks to the health care workers (19.0%) and touching the hands (16.5%), the most common acts relating to sexual harassment. Of the respondents who had experienced violence, 50.9% told their peers about the incidents. However, the major reasons why they did not report these incidents was due to the fact that they felt it was useless to file reports and that they expected such incidents to occur as part of their job. The majority of the respondents (86.4%) wanted education on how to deal with such violence at work. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that efforts should be made to increase awareness and to minimize violence in the workplace. Also, educational programs should be designed to improve knowledge and to prevent work-place violence.N

Challenging issues and solutions of bridge inspection technology using unmanned aerial vehicles

    No full text
It is expected that bridge inspection using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with imaging devices is able to improve public safety and structural reliability by providing the close detail of a bridge appearance. Thus, interests in bridge inspection using UAVs are increasing worldwide. However, at present, most of them simply use commercially available UAVs to acquire images of parts of the bridge that are difficult to access (e.g., upper parts of the pylons in long-span bridges). It cannot meet the final goal of bridge inspection that is to assess the condition of the bridge. Therefore, this approach is still considered to be at an early stage from a practical point of view and a more systematic and reliable approach is needed. In this paper, challenging issues of bridge inspection using UAVs are identified and their solutions are presented. To this end, a recently launched research project is introduced by describing the developing core technologies such as a new UAV-localization algorithm without GPS, noncontact inspection techniques based on data fusion of hybrid images and a bridge condition evaluation technique based on the processed data originally obtained from UAVs. Some interim results of field tests are also presented
